This film is from 1998, yet every time I watch it, it never fails to move me. It never fails to make me thankful for all of those lives sacrificed for us then and now on all sides. It never fails to make me cringe from the brutality of war and the horrors endured by those who gave everything. For a film to still impact me the same and in some ways more than when I originally saw it, that says more than words ever could. My #1 movie without a doubt.

CPL Upham realised that the war was pathetic and his pureness was scarred and that he realised how bad and stupid we are as humans. my grandfather felt the same way, and burned his uniform after his 6 year service.

On the one hand I would because if it truly meant that people were liberated and able to live a life of choice and made good with it then YES I'd risk myself. But when I look upon those I went to school with and those around my own age and see the way they treat society, I wouldn't give up my life so that they and their kids, etc. could treat the place like shit and have no respect for themselves let alone others. Don't get me wrong there are great people out there. They just seem to be harder to find. As an Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Freedom vet I put my life on the line for my Country but it was more in keeping my own family and friends safe rather then others. That may be selfish but that's my own flaw.
