Interesting to hear that neither Nick nor Johnny would follow a break shot from above the stack with inside English (side spin for non-Americans) - many great Straight Pool players do. In fact, I remember watching Allen Hopkins play a whole game in which he used no other break shot - although none of them lay quite as high as this one.
Admittedly, following a break shot was perhaps more common with napped cloth, where the follow would take more quickly and neither the cue ball nor the corner ball (possible kiss and scratch in the corner pocket, albeit rare) used to slide/skid as they do on modern equipment.
