  • They don't call it classic rock for nothing, kids.

  • un temazo de tomo y lomo. Esos que son perfectos por donde se le vea. Grande ELO

  • one of the best album openers of all time.

  • music is reversable but time is not... and i can't get her out of my head +_O

    ... the unwoken fool

  • I never understood why the wizard of oz is on the cover of the album.

  • @mike129995 Sharon Osbourne picked it for the LP cover much to the dismay of the band who thought it looked, let us say not very nice and asked what the hell is that?

The Wizard of Oz is a cult film in the US, it was part of the promotion to break into the US market so they used an image that people would know or catch the eye

Also being ELO the image is reversed being the wrong way round as seen in the film.

  • @MrELOPNE Thank you kind sir, now life makes sense again.

  • @mike129995 Hi, Mike. All the songs on this album are about dreams. The Wizard of Oz was Dorothy's dream.

  • @mike129995 heh....start playing it when Dorothy is running back to the house...if you sync it up right it's really funny

  • I used to hear the oveture in my head while running sprints in high school track

  • According to an interview with Jeff Lynn One of thier biggest influences in ELOs music is the MOODY BLUES also known for thier beautiful harmonies and orchestra arrangements. In concert I saw them in 1978 they were awesome. A spaceship took off and thier lighting stage and band were inside. The laser show blew me away

  • my fav elo album......what a flashback

  • An absolute production. Orchestra, indeed.

  • I can't believe the Electric Light Orchestra isn't in the hall-of-fame either. I guess that tells you what a joke the hall is. zz top is in, and there music won't last as long as this music will. They wouldn't know a good song if it kicked them in the ass. This song is so beautiful. I agree big eric...it is magical.

  • @avdreader1 They are not???

    RIOT!!

  • Magical. Thank you for posting this.

  • . . . turn me on, dead man. . .

  • Cover was designed by Sharon Arden who later became Sharon Osborne

  • I believe Strange Magic came out in Spring 1975 and this in December/late 1974. It was definitely heard on the radio in 1974.

  • @calalilygirl I first heard this in the Autumn of 1974 on a local FM station as I was studying for college exams (and trying to save enough money to buy the record). The disc jockey opened his midnight segment with the Overture. When my father returned from overseas bearing gifts that Christmas of 1974, my present was a Sharp FM Stereo Radio/Cassette Recorder and Player. This was the very first song that I recorded on it from the radio. The narrator's voice in the Overture is remarkable.

  • ELO's best song.

  • Imo, this would have been a Beatles song and album(Eldorado) had they recorded in the 70's. ELO was a tremendous.

  • "The dreamer, the unwoken fool

In dreams, no pain will kiss the brow

The love of ages fills the head

The days that linger there in prey of emptiness

    Of burned out dreams

The minutes calling through the years

The universal dreamer rises up above his earthly burden

Journey to the dead of night, high on a hill

    In Eldorado..."

Some of the greatest lyrics to a nothing song I've ever heard...

  • RIP Mike Edwards...

  • My girl friend and i,driving my old Ford 1964 in Montreal street's in evening, no money in pocket, head full of dream's....but we was happy...in middle of 70'th....so nice memory's....Tks E.L.O. For that music

  • My girld friend and i,driving my old Ford 1964 in Montreal street's in evening, no money in pocket, head full of dream's....but we was happy...in middle of 70'th....so nice memory's....Tks E.L.O. For that music

  • The 'Eldorado' album is a masterpiece! Bought it the same day I first heard 'Can't Get It Out of My Head' on the radio back in the '70's. After listening to it several thousand times, it sounds even better today!

  • @trockout the music was the best back then,,,,great memories, glad I was there.

  • They made the most beautiful songs in the world, I am a big fan of them since the early seventies and I have all their albums and the original albums of The Idle Race.

But in my opinion Eldorado is one of the greatest, I remember when it came out I was so impressed. But I love all their songs and albums. And, by the way, there is no reason to be rude, it's just an opinion. Let's enjoy the great songs they gave us !!

  • Eldorado, the one and only masterpiece of ELO

  • @ener402 Not true they have done a lot more beatifull songs!LOSER!

  • can't get this song out of my head

  • I've been listening to the Electric Light Orchestra since I was 13 yrs old and am now 52. Their music is timeless. Jeff Lynne has to be the best musical genius of his time. No one will ever touch what ELO has done over the years. Rock now and forever ELO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • would someone tell me the ELO song that has the works backwards at the begining, i cant remember the name of it

  • @soundwave000 There's several songs that do by ELO. There's

    'Down Home Town'

    'Fire on High'

    'Secret Messages'

    'Time After Time'

    'Danger Ahead'

    'Stranger'

But the most infamous one is 'Fire on High' so that's probably the one you're talking about. watch?v=eiQh571B5M0 Here's a link.

  • @mariofreak4500 yup, thats the one, THANKS :D

  • @soundwave000 Your welcome :)

  • @mariofreak4500 i second that motion, fire iin high was a very very good song

  • @soundwave000 Fire on High.

  • @soundwave000 "Fire on High" is the name of the ELO song that starts off backward, it's off the "Face The Music" album. Furthermore, what the words say backward is "The music is reversible... but time is not. TURN BACK, TURN BACK, TURN BACK"

  • @soundwave000 You are probably thinking of Fire On High... The music is reversible but time isn't

... turn back turn back turn back

  • @soundwave000 - face the music

  • @soundwave000 sorry fire on high

  • @soundwave000 You are probably thinking of Fire On High. I used to have the vinyl album and backwards it says, "The music is reversible but time is not. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back."

  • @soundwave000 This is the song that was originally released with backward dialogue at the intro of Eldorado. Why it's missing here I don't know. See if you can find the original version and upload it. Thanks. west504

  • @soundwave000 Fire on High is the song

  • listening to this song makes me utter many happy bear sounds while i paint my pictures.

  • It was wonderful to hear this awesome combination...Always loving ELO !!!!

  • I see I made a mistake. I didnt see them in 1957. That was when I was born. My Bad. I seen them in the 70's. They are still "Awesome" to listen to. They were popular when I went to OSU. I think this is my "First" mistake I ever made in my life. Imagine that! Just kiddin JC

  • FUCKING AWESOME

  • @SuperHathos yep...can't tell how many time we listened to this getting stoned back in the day....it does match up with the wizard of oz if you play it right....the album cover was the clue for us..good days!

  • CAN'T GET THIS SONG OUT OF MY HEAD!

  • pure Magic!

  • I am not as old as some of the previous commenters. I was very young in the 70's, but I do remember this beautiful song. And I still love it.

  • Aaaaaaaaaah!

  • I love the intro to this

  • This song never fails to take me to a distant, sad, but beautiful realm in my mind. E.L.O. wrote some of the most introspective music of all rock bands.

  • I was born in 1957, and 1975 is when I graduated from Grove City High School. I have seen ELO twice in concert. This song was one I enjoyed in 1957 and still enjoy it. I am 54 next month (July 24)m and I also seen Pink Floyd do The Dark Side Of The Moon in 3 River Stadium in Pitsburg. I have so many good memories of both Bands. When I was young. This music still "Calms" my mind. I deeply respect all the bands from that era. It is so good to just close your eyes, and turn up the system,

  • @TheBakerjeff1957 it didn;t come out till the 70s

  • such a smooth transition

  • Eldorado is one of the top 100 albums ever created. I wish more people would recognize the absolute beauty and musicanship that went into creating this album.

  • THis came out in March 1975...and it was all over the radio. I saw these cats at Cobo Hall in Detroit that same year and it was too much for a 15 year ols to comprehend. I look back on those days fondly.

  • @DeeDonner No, it came out and was heard playing on the radio in late 1974. Strange Magic came out in Spring '75 after this was released.

  • OMG!!!. When I first heard it in 1974, I'd thought it was a John Lennon song.

  • next to the Beatles... they stand alone and were masters in their craft. Pure emotion

  • Just like Cookies and milk, can't have one, without the other!

    Thanks for Posting!

  • I dedicate this song to my best Friend Dave Edward Harris....AKA " Broadway Betty"

Rest IN Peace My Dear Friend....I Shall see you sooner than later....

    " Gone But NOT Forgotten"

  • Wow...hearing this gave me chills! Thank you so much for playing them together, and great audio to boot!

  • JEFF LYNNE WAS OBVIOUSLY A MAJOR VOCAL INFLUENCE ON MR ROBIN ZANDER... BOTH ARE BRILLIANT!

  • this song brings tears...i love this music

  • Decades ago, I caught a religious show where a guy who must've never seen The Wizard Of Oz thought the album cover of Eldorado depicted "demonistic hands putting a hex on somebody." LOL

  • Love that you posted the entire song....love this beginning...thanks for sharing!

  • A classic from one of the best bands of the 70s. Awesome band and song.

  • Only 1 word to describe this group realy - - - - - TIMELESS :-)

  • Fantastic !! Thank you for posting !!

  • THIS IS WONDERFUL. I LOVE ELO.

  • If you like the album, you should read the book..........Voltaire. The best of all possible worlds. It may have been the inspiration behind the album.

  • HOLY CRAP! I've never heard the first 2 minutes intro of this song until today, and I am 38. IVE BEEN DEPRIVED!!!!

  • Cant agree more ppl..The way the overture introduces 'cant get it outta my head ' makes it even MORE of a classic

  • Don't make em like this anymore.... Thanks mario. Spent hours trying to remember the name of this song.

  • Completely agreed Scott06096...They are one :)

  • How could you not make a comment on the Album Cover, let alone the Title. I pray as a music lover does, that one does listen to the entire, rather than tear it to pieces.

  • i'm new to ELO and so far i flippin love them! anyone have any recommendations on things i should listen by them?

  • @PwnYouAtSoccer /// Listen to all of their CDs...youll love most of them or maybe all of them

  • @PwnYouAtSoccer "Out of the Blue" their double album was great, also "A New World Record" are my favorites although they're all good.

  • This Elo album is a classic , The album is all about dreams, each track is a different dream and The cover is from wizard of oz which was also Dorothys dream...

A symphony and what a symphony , jeff lynne at his very best with louis clark what a team....... I wish jeff would release an acoustic version of some of his songs , like dont walk away etc ...its an album well over due

  • @elofan0 Thanks for explaining the cover and why it is pertinent... I didn't get it before. I am smarter today than I was yesterday !! Hello to a fellow ELO fan !!

  • masterpiece yes, yet we want a reunion! a comeback.

  • I saw these guys in 1978 at the Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Ms. Best concert to this day I have ever seen. The string arrangements are off the chart.

  • absolutely the most talented band EVER! 20 years ahead of their time

  • @MultiHemmy I don't know about that, they weren't making stuff this good in the 90s :P

  • I also thank you for combining Eldorado Overture with Can't Get It Out of My Head! These are both great!

  • @Scott06096 It's my pleasure. And like pippin254 said, the two songs should never be seperated. :)

  • @mariofreak4500 I agree...like I Robot and I wouldnt Wanna be Like You.....

  • @Scott06096 This is on the album as it plays Scott..It's beUTIFUL :)))

  • Thank you for including the Eldorado Overture with "Can't Get it Out of my Head". The two should never be seperated, under any circumstances.

I truly wish I was one of those born during the peak of music like this...but I'm just glad I can still listen to it today.

ELO. You just can't hate em'.

  • @pippin254 Your comment deserves a love button.

  • @pippin254

But if you were born during that time, you'd be old now, so it's a bit of at trade off! :oP

  • @pippin254 I was a child of the 70s, this music was engrained into my head even as a baby. There was no era better than the 1970s in my opinion. The variety of sound and quality in ALL genres was just outstanding.

I feel terrible for children today who are only offered a very limited slice of the music that is being created, and that which they do hear is generally stale, without emotion and just too much copy cat sounds.

Hit me up if you are looking for something fresh

  • @fuwmg isaw them in birmingham england when they played there has elo2 with the moscow state orchestra my wife was carrying our first child that was 19 years ago hand my wife still says its the best grourp ever live and we have been to many since

  • @aggrovater Great to hear, and I have also been a fan of Jeff Lynne and ELO / ELO II since the mid 70s.

Although no one can compare to ELO there are still bands creating wonderful music that reminds me of the song writing in the 70s, layered sound, catchy hooks and choruses. Look up some of these bands for instance A.C.T. , Blackfield , Big Big Train, Jadis, Glass Hammer, Frost* , Moon Safari , Porcupine Tree, Presto Ballet, RPWL, Pure Reason Revolution, Three, Unitopia ...

  • @pippin254 I WAS born into this era of music (i'm 51). It's why a week doesn't go by that ELO, Genesis, REO, Journey, etc. that I don't listen to them in my car. I never listen to the radio. Why waste my time. My girlfriend will have todays music on her radio and it's the biggest letdown. My 2 sons, who are 26 and 21. listen to 'MY' music (along with some of the recent stuff). Just another reason to love them and the tunes....

  • "and i cant get it out of my head" for thirty plus years now! Jeff lynn is a mega talented genius!!!!!!!!

  • This band was ahead of their time, but I'm glad it was in my time!

  • E.L.O: un grupo subvalorado por la critica...

  • PS...the cover art comes from "the Wizard of OZ". When the wicked witch of the West tried to TAKE Dorothy's Ruby slippers...

  • What a talent Jeff Lynn is. This is the first LP I bought of ELO's. Powerful stuff!

  • Come on ELO fans let' get them into the rock and roll hall of fame. e-mail horsey1@new.rr.com. I will make sure your signature gets to the hall of fame. ELO deserves to be in the hall of fame. They are the greatest band on the planet earth.

    Agree?

  • I remember listening to thisover and over. Iwas about 17 at the time. Ah the good ol days.

  • I can't understand why such an amazing band as ELO, and an equally amazing writer; Jeff Lynne, have yet to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. What is WRONG with people?

  • @PJJammie I agreew 100 % with you.....you should see the list of groups that aren't in yet.....Journey, Rush, Yes, Boston, Hall and Oates, Kiss....it goes on and on and on!!!

  • @PJJammie RnR hall of shame sux... there are bands in there that don't even belong while others haven't been inducted yet...WTF... they can induct the suck ass bands after all the good ones are in.

  • "Searching for her silver light..." There's much more to that line than most people know ;) In the context of the Wizard of Oz, if ya know what I mean.

  • yes; it was DELISH

    I love those violins

    sweeping away //////

  • i love this group so much the english groups from this era were and continue to be the best bands ever produced in the history of rock music.

  • tasty

  • My bested bestest ELO song ever.

  • Jeff Lynne = Octava maravilla del mundo.

  • I love the strings in this. Beautiful

  • Reminds me of only one person, In one place of time... "Cynthia"

  • I love this album also the cover, I HAVE it on LP also a lot of the elo albums on LP. I think they have some value hahahaha. Love this group!

  • Four dislikes? Who in hell wouldn't like this song this is great song from great band.

  • bit of trivia - the album artwork is actually a converse image of the one seen in 'the wizard of oz'

ELO's magnum opus, although 'a new world record' is a great album also.

  • @morval99 also the arts done by ozzy's hag ass wife. great album though. i think its their best

  • Tears are rolling down my cheeks. This music is so emotional.....

  • Still got me vinyl of this album, not selling, don't ask, my paper round money bought this.

  • @lewisrendal Me too, except for the paper route part. Regards 85.........

  • @85points85 dare not play it though, might scratch it, sad really, but there you go..

    Regards LR

  • @lewisrendal yeeeaaahhh!!!! I also have this one on LP, is my fav of my little collection. also I have the time, new worlds record, also xanadu soundtrack dobuble cover, also discover album, balance of power, face the music, on the third day, AND I´ll do anything to get the secret messages and the night the lights went on.

  • WHO SAYS THE GREAT MASTERS ARE DEAD...THIS RANKS RIGHTTHERE WITH THEM...PLEASE TOUR AGAIN

  • @jmh73josecuervo please tour again ! AMEN !

  • This album was my introduction to ELO. One of thier best in my opinion.

  • This intro used to scare me as a kid.

My mom constantly put this song on repeat for like 3 hours straight.

After a few years i can't do nothing less then just enjoy this piece of work.

    Classic track!!

  • Fabulous! Nothing else to say except that Jeff Lynne is a genius. @whee11ed if you should see this we fans never forget where Jeff came from. :)

  • Jeff Lynne is an absolute genius. I wish That I could sit down and talk to him, and thank him for all the beautiful music that has graced my life. I am a professional classical pianist in Nashville Tennessee, and I will tell you that not since Franz Schubert have we had such a marvelous composer, singer, melodist, and arranger. Thanks, Jeff, for enriching my life, for so many years. Namaste

  • This was a great album. Thaks for sharing it.

  • As a young man full with a head plenty of creazy bees, I found this overture somehow frightening, strange, but stranger than that, I adored that vinyl for so long, now I having aquired some musical education as well as some culture too, I understand that my spirit was beeing arised everytime I heard the incredible music and lyrics from "Eldorado Symphony", ...man could explode in tears listening and remembering!

  • please please please remember and learn that elo are from my own brummy town of birmingham england

  • @whee11ed i think most people know that most people who are interested in the tunes like this, and even the younger generation will eventally grow to appreciate these tunes once they reach a certain age.

  • Brings back so many memories

  • RIP: Logan Diane Planty April 26, 1988 - June 28, 2007. Not only did she love this song, but she WAS the Ocean's Daughter. Too beautiful and too young to die....

  • RIP: Logan Diane Planty April, 1988 - June, 2007. Not only did she love this song, but she WAS the Ocean's Daughter. Too beautiful and too young to die....

  • Dang!..The death of 70's music icons is accelerating now...That era is "slipping away" from us....I know time has to march on,...BUT WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO CRUEL!!

  • @tiptoetonight: But, *the Music LIVES on*...forever....

  • Damn, pop-rock was the best in the 70's. What happened? Now you have to wear a meat suit....Shit!

  • Can someone light a candle for me. This is so emotional, now.

  • @supermandisco

    Done.

  • They were way ahead of everyone else at the time.

  • @mralpaters1 FOREVER.........

  • Rest In Peace, Mike Edwards

  • RIP Mike Edwards

  • Love the song but does anybody know what the futuristic voice says???? i would really like to know

  • @achilenita1 The futuristic voice says: The dreamer... the unwoken fool. In dreams, no pain will kiss the brow... The love of ages fills the head The days that linger there in prey of emptiness Of burned out dreams The minutes calling through the years The universal dreamer rises up above his earthly burden Journeys to the dead of night High on a hill in Eldorado ( Eldorado, Eldorado...) Hello to a fellow ELO fan !! Best Wishes !!
  • Is a classic

  • I have that album, with dorothy and the witch

  • jef lynn is the best

  • I own most ELO albums I have not heard many in years

  • This is perfect.

  • songs from ELO bring me to tears....REMINDS me of back in the day when i was a young guy when things were easier...and lots of loved ones were still with us...god bless everybody who has lost somebody and this song reminds you of them....ELO is Awesome!

  • Beautiful tune and great band.... It's ashame bands today don't have talent like ELO does.

  • A non-stop feature on my brother's turntable in the mid-late 70's. It is etched forever onto my mrmoty. But how good was it really. Their later work ocasionally gave me pause to re-consider what seemed to have been a seminal album of its era and gemre.

    Whatever happened to Tangerine Dream

  • @DrBlahaha THIS IS A GREAT POST...you sound me my friend...i was in my single digits when my brother used to rock to ELO in the "back" room of our house..and i was usually coattailing him.....thanks to him...i'm a HUGE elo fan...for life!! GREAT POST

  • I remember when my brother bought this record... he is a year older... we were 17 and 18 years old... and when we heard this song...we new that life would be different from now on... and we were right...this album is so awesome...as is Jeff Lynne... Thanks for Posting!!

  • love it.............

  • Pure genius. Sounds just as good today as it did the first day it came out.

  • In the 70s' I used to listen to this over and over...I sure did love this kind of music by ELO

  • No one can touch you, ELO, with your talent, how you made our dreams come true. I miss you...
