I was at her concert in dallas /Ft worth on sept 10,2001, and it was so hard for any of us to leave the city they had all rd and flights shut dwn..And how i know she must have was wanting to do nothing but get Home to her children that day...I know I did i had a son in N.Y. that day...But thank you Melissa for getting me thru....Love u sister

When I first heard this song it was on her albulm. It took me a bit to realize what she was singing about. Now I keep playing this for others to hear. It shows our world is still messed up when we can not marry or even be heroes in our onw country.

This is my fav song off "Lucky". I am not gay, but it made me cry. It is so deep and true and she sings with such passion. One of my best friends is gay, and I just thought it could of been her, that died that fateful Tuesday Morning. She lives in NY and it could of easily been her. Melissa is a brillant artist.

I truly admire celebrities who use their fame to speak up about things they believe in - Melissa seems to do it more than most - and I can imagine how grateful Mark's parents would have been to Melissa for speaking up for them and their son...

Most of them will no where mention the fact that MArk BIngham was openly gay. They won't say that yeah he played rugby but for a huge gay organization. My best friend, who happens to be gay, told me about this song. I LOVE IT! Both the music as well as what the song says. I don't understand why there are so many closed-minded people in this world who look down on and discriminate against people just because of who they choose to love. Jesus taugh to "love your enimies" as far as I know THATS what he taught, was love, and even if being gay is against christian religions, the bible ALSO says something along the lines of "ye shall not judge unless ye be judged" I think its something along those lines. Some of us will always continue to try to teach the truth to those that fear us. Last week 2 states passed same-sex marriage laws. That is unprecedented in this country. NY also agreed to recognize the marriages from other states. We are making small strides everyday to be equal to all the citizens of the United States. Land of the Free. Wow, I find that incredible. There are stacks of of gay women and men teaching kids where I live. It also breaks down some barriers. The principal at my son's high school was a really out gay guy, excellent leader and an inspirartion to everyone.

Still bit by bit, the Obama administration will hopefully overcome some of the Medieval laws that exist there.

One can only pray that he can handle all the problems in our country and still find time to care enough to help us too.

The "up & down the road I go....." part is from an old black song that refers to a woman being shot around as she walks down the road. When Melissa heard it she had to have it be part of this song. Just another instance of bigotry that was so strong in our country.

I have just seen these intended changes on the White House website [10 Feb 2009]:

- Pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and protect workers from unfair dismissal on the basis of sexual orientation

- Expand hate crime statues to include hate crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity

- Allow civil unions and thus ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples

- Oppose a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage

- Repeal the U.S. militarys Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy against gays in the military

- Provide adoption rights to same-sex couples

Sure these repeals are not done and dusted, but theyre great steps in the proper direction of Human Rights.
