  • A metal katana would cut a bo staff in half. Pretty sweet vid. I want learn to use a Bo staff

  • pretty good with the bo staff, you just need to pratice more and be more in control of it you sort look like your half asleep, as for the katana... you could have got him tons of times dude look for openings but it was pretty good(:

  • the fear in both of you is sad. You're using a weapon. you're supposed to be more aggressive and try and win

  • is looks really good for a fighting scene, but the strikes from the bo staff look weak.

  • I think it's pretty good! Expecially wearing helmet makes it look like pro's:P

By the way, I think stabbing isn't really damaging with a bo, just a thought

  • Awesome demonstration. I wish I was that skilled with the weopons. i am currently studying Tang soo Do and am learning the bo-staff and nunchakus.

  • I challenge the guy with the Bo Staff.

  • hahaha nice fight, bo staff rocks!

  • only fake katanas suck if that was a real 1 it only takes 1 hit....

  • The only thing i wud b worried about is getting poked by the staff

  • too many unneeded movemonts on both parts, the katana is ment to draw, kill, and sheath, and yes a well sharpened katana used correctly would slice clean through a bow staff

  • @nashdouglas619 Thats what i thought, a katana would just cut through a bo. But if there were a metal bo i could imagine that being a deadly weapon.

  • @mrmurdahlic Kool

  • @mrmurdahlic Yeah You are right. It will become stuck. But strangely it can slice through seven .50 machine gun bullets before breaking.

  • @mrmurdahlic The katana (If well sharpened ) Would cut clean through the staff.

  • how do you keep your hands from getting hit in a bo fight? I can never avoid that when I was a kid.

  • lame. if this was any more lame it would be snakes on a plane. these guys are as fake as it gets. the guy with sword doesnt even know how to hold the damn thing and his stance is like a pile of crap with puke on it. they both lose cause they are both losers. please guys get some real training at least so you dont have to embarrass yourselves like that ever again. they call this tough love. take it for what it is you guys need help desperately.

  • Guy with the katana is terrible. Bo staff is ok but he concentrates alot in spins. The bo staff culd beat the katana if he used both ends of the stick and sweeps. Katana culd beat bo staff if its agressive.

  • the bo has length, but the katana has speed

  • I know what it is I ment the staff have a blade on top a kasorgima is a blade like thing that has a ball on chain attached to it

  • If it was a real katana vs a kasurigama ( bo staff with blade on tip) there would be a tie

  • @robertpal9 ,,,,,,,,clearly u dont know what a kasurigama is.....

  • kilik vs.. mitsurugi

  • the guy with the katana needs to develop a better sense of timing and improve is blocking skills, then this would be a better fight

  • I for one am glad to see that there are real martial artists out there putting good videos on you tube so that beginers like myself can look at profesionals to see how the basics are applied in competition. I'm definitely a deadlyviper111 fan. Keep up the good work.

  • ver combate palo

  • some staffs are so strong they break swords...so it dosent matter

  • The bo staff only won because it was a wooden sword.,

  • puddingpowerpwnage

  • I always wondered if Staff would eventually break versus sword and how hard it is to take sword hits so staff wouldn't be damaged. If you count only hits, staff will win since wearing it out is not a tactic with wooden weapons, with real weapons worst case scenario would be 2 half length sticks.

  • A wise sensei always told me that if you put a bo against a katana with people of equal skill, the sword will always win... just an old saying that has stuck with me through the years, i treat it as a shred of one mans wisdom, not necessarily fact. anyway, i enjoyed watching the twirling of the staff. distance and speed is what you need to work on... techniques flowed with the bo which was nice. some nice moves with sword, but footwork and stances need a bit of work. other than that, good fight!

  • what style are you using there? i practice ninjitsu and i think id beat u with a bo :)

  • here the bo staff is the better weapon, coz the sword is made by wood... a real katana makes a lot more damage, so real katana vs bo: i would maby choose the katana, coz every hit from the katana is a cut which makes you bleeding... the bo hit has to be precise to kill with one attack...

but in the other way the bo has a lot more distance... if you have the bo, never touch the sword with it

  • Interesting, there were a few good exchanges going on there. Good work.

  • Anyone who uses a wooden staff should know never to block a blade head on, you parry instead.

  • who are these puuises

  • hey this was pretty good. nice to see people using weapons to spar

  • @waitforwinter But you must remember, that is not a real katana in a real fight against a bo staff. Therefore the 'katana' can not cut right through it.

  • @waitforwinter not if you hold it at an angle then the katana slides right down the bow or it will cut a small mark in the bow but you dont block against the sword otherwise yes it would cut through

  • @TheMavking not a well maintained bo. it wouldn't cut through.

  • the Bo has always been my favorite weapon

  • Keep in mind a real katana can cut through wood with no problems at all.

  • Learn how to use these weapons, both of you, this hurt my soul as a martial artist.

  • @fengatormx6 wheres your video of you sparring with a weapon jackass

  • @gunfighter964 So you are going to troll me now are you? Howabout instead of making a video I kick your ass with my bostaff?

  • the katana was originally designed to be used as a 2handed sword. using it one handed is bad. i will give them credit for the obvious fact that they are actually trained in the weapons that they are using. i must say that the bo staff is better. the katana doesn't have enough range and it is fairly shaky when hit by a wooden staff.

  • the guy in black uses a taught system if your dont react in the way his system plans you too hes fucked!

  • If i was the guy in black i would use more spins to distract the other guy...

  • The purpose of the Bo staff is to keep ur distance. Flashy moves are ok, they are meant to actually confuse the enemy and make them hesitate which would leave an opening but a few of those moves would get you killed quite easily. Like the one when you struck behind the back left your whole body open especially the face. lol. Pretty good defence on both sides however. It was interesting to watch

  • @SilentShadows66 Actually in Asia many years ago villagers made Bo staffs because they weren't allowed to have real weapons and twirling it around was used to deflect arrows and attacks it also disorients the enemy.

  • @halo091000

While it is true that twirls can disorient an enemy, using twirls to deflect arrows and attacks is complete BS. A twirl doesn't have the speed to deflect an arrow nor the force to deflect an attack. Trying to deflect an attack with a simple twirl would leave you disarmed and, soon thereafter, dead.

  • lol i like the bo staff user :P

  • I love the bo staff, I get a natural feel and flow from it, but for effectiveness, the katana wins.

  • The guy in white is a pussy

  • Whats with the Helmets?

I study Bo' and Ive never had to wear a helmet

    boooooooo......

  • @AAAnomalyyy ur soooo hardcore. shit man.

  • when you put the bow staff behind ur shoulder...hold it with three fingers so you can segway into your next position...tbh ur stances are terrible. this is just two kids with sticks.

  • whats with the gay spinning of the bo staff? you don't start spinning the staff when you're about to get stab in the face ok? idiots

  • hey guy with the bo, utilize both sides of the bo

  • Who is the imbecile with the sword?

  • i like how all these ppl are talking trash saying "man u guys suck at ur respected weapons." i wanna see them use these weapons >.<

  • the katana guy should roll into his opponent across the bo staff when he does a solid block, allowing him to ease in for hits

  • The spin at :38 wasn't too bad, actually... but I agree... you two are too afraid of the weapons to get solid technique down. Do some research into boffers like the ones I use in my videos. They're cheap, have a realistic enough feel to them, but you can still go full force without any armor and generally be OK.

  • the katana guy need to get into offensive range, he can't keep defending

  • lol, lil girls.

  • kewl

  • I like how this was a style of half realistic, half movie bostaff/katana fight. It had some cool movements (well, mostly from the bostaff guy, but still), yet still keeping a surtain amount of realism to it. The katana guy should practice his stances and movements a bit more, and ought to also be showing off some cool movements (for no reason other than to show them off). With that done, and some nice camera angles, this could become a rockin' fightscene

  • katana guy is doing it all wrong. he keesp staying in the preferred range for a staff attack. He shoudl be closing the distance and side stepping. Go for a disarm already !

  • the fuck is this the staff needs spin.....the sword needs evasive moves you both suck

  • This shouldn't have been called a fight. It was two guys spinning sticks around that occasionally banged together.

  • if that katana was real 1 proper hit would slice the bo so this is why that would never happen

  • Wow you both suck at fighting

  • come on a real katana with proper striking woulda sliced the bo in 2

  • Well if these idiots were using it right it wouldnt

  • wat style of martial arts is this p.s. u might want to use the bo staff to its full length

  • @tywainwright1 i know nothing of martial arts but i believe he WAS using it with some moves, and using it too much leaves him exposed to getting disarmed

  • @tywainwright1 judging by the fact that you dont know what martial art it is, (its kobudo) maybe you shouldnt be giving advice?

  • @BMunich16 doesnt meen i havent trained with a bo staff does it?

  • @tywainwright1 have you had proper training, or do you twirl it around in your garage?

  • @BMunich16 i hav studied goju ryu,yes its proper training

  • @tywainwright1 respect

  • @tywainwright1 you can't always. in this case it seems that he needed speed more than reach.

  • @tywainwright1 bodo or bojutsu bodo means the way of the bo and bo jutsu means the art of the bo. same thing

  • @Cyrusislikeawsome Jutsu/jitsu meens the physical aplication of.

  • the better fighter had to die in the end :( very sad XD

    nice fight dudes =)

  • i wish i was the dude with the bo staff cause im upsessed with them now lol

  • you guys don't know how to fight! i could own ether of you easy

  • that just shows how little restraint you show when SPARRING! They aren't going to go full force with wooden weapons. That's how you end up in hospital.

I see no videos of you doing any better, so can it. We don't care how badass you think you are. This was a friendly sparring match, not a war. I'd be afraid to see them unleash without fear of injuring one another.

  • i think most people could lol

  • bo staff is all about cirular motion and as long as you're using it right it's defensive and offensive at the same time. i'd say good luck charging in bc if you do get hit once that's probably it. After one hit you get disoriented and bo isnt about 1 hit like katana. You get hit once and lose your balance and youre done. The best weapon to beat the bo is the spear bc it can penetrate these circular defensive/offensive manouvers

  • Bo staff owns. Enough said.

  • lol!dipped foam against weapons.not much good if you got a hard enough belt to the head.

  • if both where real weapons.. the staff wouldnt stay a chance against the katana. the most shape weapon would slice the staff.

but i do prefer the staff.. unlike the katana it mustn´t kill oder destroy

  • u know a japanese bo staff can shater a katana

  • @WhiteSAM20 I doubt a katana could slice the staff

  • @BMunich16 depends what material the staff is made out of but for the most part, agreed

  • not bad for practice it looks like....but if that were a real competition i would like to hope y'all are a bit faster...keep up the good work tho

  • Good fight you guys

  • oh the pain haha good work 5/5

  • The person weilding the bo will always most likely win because of the advantage over range and power, the guy in the red helmet has a really flamboient style. This fight needs some structure and a theme, like star wars or something. Then it would look amazing. Great job the bothe of you.

  • @TheFlowMeister dunno you gotta think though the weapon is the extension of the hands, and is as only as good as the user, also most fights are basically searching the opening, though i admit a staff is powerful for nonbladed its not that hard to beat it, Bokken vs Staff will most likely end with staff wining but Katana vs Staff most likely the katana

  • Also incorrect and a foolish statement.

  • @singerwithkunai I dont believe its foolish what I said is coming from what i've experienced, and what i've come to understand about weapons. without a weapon you have 4 weapons both feet and your fists, and depending on the weapon you either go down to 3 weapons or you still have 4. I've seen weapon fights and if you have little to no experience with a weapon how can you expect to use it correctly. The outcomes are random but from what i've seen Bokken v Staff the staff has won the fights

  • loser

  • derp like star wars or something you're an idiot.

as far as the staff always winning you're also VERY wrong although i PREFER staff to any weapon proper training is required and a long weapon means nothing if both people are masters.

  • you guys are obviously trying way too hard not to hit each other

  • obvi this video is of two guys havin fun in their backyard. You read into anymore and you're just a youtube douche bag.

  • nice work, testing your skills without hurting eachother takes good control keep it up and eventually you can go full blast

  • Comment removed

  • i would beat any of you. hence the name, IM THE SHIT!

  • ..shut the fuck up poser

  • lets go then douche. i would seriously rock your fucking world.

  • @drdbo1imtheshit if you were talking to me fuck off id kill you in seconds with no weapon.

  • staff or sword

  • u guys did well but my opinion is that the bo staff would beat the katana, in the other hand if it would be of cold metal the katana would have a better chance to survive but anyhow i think bo staff is better, but all depends who use it!

  • The guy with the katana's stance is really poor.

  • Yeah, I heard retards really enjoy doing karate and stuff.

  • Plus its not a katana its a bokken

  • ...you cannot be serious...

both of your disciplines are way off. you guys are way too stiff. and there was too much hesitation

  • you didnt use the bo staff to its full potiental basic strikes should of been good enough to defeat him

  • First: always move forward, if you go back your balance is destroyed and you will not be able to attack on the right time.

And second when he strikes try really to go in and block and after the block strike him.

Third:It's not good at all too always letting him have the first strike with the bo, try to (don't know the proper word) fool attack him and then push and come in with your body and attack him fast.

    '

  • Use a feint tactic (is that what you were looking for?)

  • Yes thank you :)

  • AH.... to the one in the white, with a sword your suppose to be more fearless, infact willing to die! but you know what, I like your performance and encourage you guys to keep practicing!!!!

Besides how did people first learn martial arts !! by doing exactly what your doing

one must fool around well in a safe sense to acknowledge one's potential

  • why didn't to bo guy use his range advantage?

  • Well... He tried.

But he was just showing off most of teh time.^^

  • flawless victory

  • flawless, no. definitely a victory though. nice catching of the opening though

  • The guy with the bo staff is dancing to much, which is making your feints ineffective. Also, don't just jab and poke; poke and move that thing around so that you can hit a body part properly.

To the guy with the katana: sure he can counter you but he's holding the staff in a way that's not going to hurt you. Get in there and let him dance away, then strike. Or when you block, turn the katana and go inside quickly. Last thing, don't just move back.

  • Cut through hardwood? Not a chance, maybe if hit the dent 3-4 times with full power, but that's not happening in a fight.

  • in fact if you cut it you might make a nice stabby point for him to use... lol...

  • pfffffff colorbelts....

  • although this vid was pretty good..a real katana would cut a bostaff like butter

  • That is why you have to perfect the blocks with the Bo and study the dynamics of both weapons.

  • What if the katana wielder predicted the blocks and then changed the angle of the blade to then proceed with the cutting of butter =P

  • unless it was made of metal 3 times the weight of the entire moon and was made to form the heavenly milkyway...

Too much Journey to the West you think?

  • @HellSpawnofDarkness not if the user was skilled hardalso it is made from wood so i would take a lot of strength that he would not find himself to build up

  • aww c'mon don't diss them so badly :\ everybody has to start somewhere and the guy with the staff isn't half bad

    cheers! keep it up :D

  • to be fair u wouldnt spin round n leve your back exposed there copying films thus rendering it useless as a fighting tech it just poorly done stage fighting

  • this is retarded, no the staff is not superior to the sword. and the sword is not superior to the staff. they're suited for different things...the guy with the bo is wasting movement and the guy with the bokuto just sucks in general

  • when i got hit in the gut with a staff....woooooo that hurt

  • just get in close with the katana! his bo staff will be useless!

  • the guy in black is lethal.......but lousy actor..ha ha

  • katana is toast! pwnd!

  • love this stuff... im on my way there... almost a black belt

  • Thing is wouldn't a real sword cut that piece of wood in half lol?

  • Omg my friend ALWAYS uses staffs when i fight him using my bokken, but I win like 80% of the time, I think its because ive foughten against him so much ive kinda figured out his style and I usual try to use technique and deception to lure him in then I usually just unleash hell. Haha

  • fagdar spotted

  • Obviously the staff user will win, he has better reach lol... But yeah the staff user is really good and has potential.

  • He's too flashy. Too much wasted movement. The only reason he is dominating in this "fight" is because the swordsman is too frightened of his greater reach.

  • looks fun. except when u get hit. Ive been hit with a bokken or bokuto b4 and it hurts

  • u can tell u were cool kids at school......

  • if the katana chraged in it would have been done.

  • Not and the best but the guy with Bo is very good keep on training ;)

  • these guys are good.

  • You can tell they're inexperienced with one reason: their helmets. Anyone who actually practices would know that you need to protect your face, not the side of your head!

  • fucking losers

  • the guy with the katana needs a lot more practice. the entire time he was always changing his stance and not actually attempting to attack other than when the guy with the BO decided to do some twirly stuff to show off. they both really need to be striking one another. they both have gear so they should actually go for the pain, because nothing else will teach you better than some good ole bruises you got being an idiot.

  • both of them kinda suck

  • with no offense intended and all due respect. The Bo staff guy needs to tighten up his techniqu0e more, i saw WAY too many flashy moves and missed opportunities. If the guy with the katana had just cashed in on those opportunities, the fight would have been over in a matter of seconds. You need to utilize the circular motion the bo staff is supposed to be used in, and use that momentum for strikes. More strikes, less thrusts and jabs. That's all i have to say...

  • @DrFugue I totally agree with you. Too much flash. You wouldn't be all flashy if you were in a real fight, would you? I hope not.

Also, the Katana is not a 'real' one. When the weapons hit eachother, the distinct sound of wood hitting wood is heard. Also, if it was a fully fledged Katana, the Bo would have been cut straight through after a few blows.

I've trained in both of these, and they're not easy to control, but still, less flashy guys, and then you'll look solid. That's the point.

  • dude in all respect u need to work on bo staff technique. The bo's fighting style is based on crcles and most of what i say was just thrusting. Check out fight science bo staff

  • first off, the guy with the sword had no specific technique, the bojutsu guy does however.

  • Such ineffective strikes from the bo fighter. It would be so easy to defeat the sword wielder if he actually spent his time striking instead of performing flourishes.

  • Anyways, the guy with the staff was fine up until the guy with the bokken figured out he was using a lot of wasted movement.

Those flashy twirling moves with the staff are fine for competition, but not in combat. The thing is, unless you have the strength and momentum to lift the person your fighting with your staff (not likely) the first solid landing blow will stop your own technique. It's better to use short techniques that utilize your range.

  • Bokken i shilariousss.. xDDD

  • Why the bo guy didn't go for legs even once? The katana guy was just begging for that quite a few times.

  • Disrespect to a piece of steel? You don't make much sense.

  • no disrespect but the guy with the katana go back to school you are weak with that think and you are disrespecting the katana in many ways its disrespecfull not to use the katana in the propper way you never ever unsheath it unless goin for blood. the guy with the bow pretty cool!!!!
