  • all junk buy a nikon

  • maybe if you didnt waste money on that pointless handgrip you wouldnt be shooting voigtlander, thus defeating the purpose of your, at the time, 5 thousand dollar body,

  • @hockeyissick17 i take that back, my mistake, its an early summilux, i beg your forgiveness

  • what a piece of junk.....get the Leica S2 instead!

  • bizzare comment

  • The creepy part of this video - the person does not speak. I actually don't care if it is in a language I do not understand.

  • Leica are a bit expensive, but if you need an extra camera then they are ok. Otherwise stick with Hasselblad..

  • SHIT

  • CRAP

  • Leica M8 ... Obsolete

  • @Yarbols Obsolete doesn't absolutely mean that it's not good.

  • @TheAgnostiic no, you're right. It does however mean that it is inferior to just about every other M. That's a thing you still to this day cannot say about a 50 or 60 year old M3 or M2.

  • Yes, it's creepy because the guy doesn't know how to use his hands.

  • Like shit

  • LOL 0:41 was like camera ejaculation

  • Did I got in the porn channel by mistake?

  • lol'd at 0:41

  • rubbish camera

  • an den besitzer, du weißt schon dass diese kästchen zum photographieren da sind und nicht um in einer vitrine zu stehen....da gibt es so leute die rennen damit sogar im freien herum und machen ein paar kratzer drauf

  • Somebody's got more money than they know what to do with.....Unfortunately, all that investment doesn't make one a better photographer.......

  • filmska lajka je majka,tačka.

  • There's more than a bit of bourgeois and nostalgia with the Leica brand. But certainly if you limited yourself to one camera body and one or two lenses, and approached it life Henri Cartier Bresson it would be quite enjoyable. But of course, he also was an artist and had a unique approach to photography. If you're into lenses or say sports photography I would go for a Japanese brand.

  • Creepy video man... :(

  • ahahahhahahaa

  • hi, nice video, very different from the norm, !!! you can'tn beat a Leica, !!! thanks

  • The M8 has many bad design elements in it, particularly, the rear function buttons. Camera settings will change without your knowledge if you wear the camera around your neck. Camera noise is unacceptable. Snapshot mode creates horrible surprises that make me hate this camera.

  • LOL at the battery getting off at 0:43

  • This thing is $8000? What a scam. It reminds me of my Fisher Price toy camera from 25 years ago?

  • @tom415sf Leica is the most damn highest quality peice of crap out there. but ya, 8 grand for a camera, no thanks, I'd buy an 18 mega pixel camera with a freaking lens.

  • Though it may be functional, I think that optional grip ruins the whole look of the camera.

  • this thing is holy guys

did you ever hold a leica in your hands :D?

  • hehe does using a rangefinder camera make you a better photographer ? Not always

  • @klantvriendelijk yes it does, as there's no fancy "this or that " that does it for you, as in 35m and adobe software

You have to learn to be a photographer with these without having a special device that pulls your dick for you. The new M9 is also full frame

  • lol

  • Autor, camera's not the sexual object or fetish. it's for the making pictures.

  • is the M9 worth an extra 1000$ compared to the M8?

  • Comment removed

  • i feel dirty now, it's like i just cheated on my nikon d90.

  • Creepy yes, in a funny way, especially the batter removal balance on the top of the fingers trick, kind of like Mr.Bean as Jack the Ripper. But yes get out and use the thing, must be a dentist.

  • Creepy yes, in a funny way, kind of like Mr.Bean as Jack the Ripper. But yes get out and use the thing, must be a dentist.

  • I have a M6 and I found this creepy... what I wanted to happen at the end, after all the careful exploration and fondling, was for the camera to spontaneously combust.

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzz

  • I'd never spend that sort of money on a digital camera. The best of them are disposable tools, and that price for something that just wont last like an M3 is absurd.

Enjoy your 5 thousand dollar camera once the sensor starts collecting dust, and the electronics start failing.

leica should never have gone digital.

  • @marimbasound1

lol... just for kicks I translated that from German. For your amusement, I shall share!

"Always nice clean glasses that is : for many - electronic fun - PLAYSTATION ENSURES AN ; MARIMBASOUND"

Yes. The Playstation most certainly DOES ensure "an" marimbasound!

  • Take it outside and use it!

  • The creepyest video I ever saw. Its like seeing those Vietnam Veterans hughing their m16´s...creepy...

  • 7d eos music video...Ls Centz i lost my baby..continuation of Ls voicemail on youtube...My second video i ever shot using canon 7d eos did it in one day check us out

  • I like Canon --- Leica-old fashion styling for no useful purpose=CULT

  • cameras are tools to be USED. worshipping a camera makes YOU a tool. Nikon F. Now there's a camera...

  • he's just like any other leica enthusiast just a lot weirder.

  • He 's so creepy

Reminds me someone ... ME ??

  • look at the way how tenderly he treats the battery LOL

  • 0:43 Imeant is lol )))))))

  • 4:43 - wowow, lol

  • i got this camera yesterday it's good, it was only 6000 dollars with lenses

  • @oscarman2, thats kind of much. was it worth it? im still shooting with a canon rebel xt lol.

  • "handmade digitalcamera"?? errr... nah, forget it.

  • What a beauty.

  • How slow can you go, howslow can you go?! Idiot.

  • They should put a little door on the bottom so you can get to the battery/sd without having to remove the bottom plate.

  • Meh...

I'd still rather have a film leica M3. Since I can't have that I'm happy to have settled for a Nikon F3.

  • I have a Canon 7d but I would love to get this one , its a very atractive camera.

  • @tiantxu haha damn !! you don't even know how small it is compare to a slr haha !! i feel sorry for you.

  • ö.ö course its an great camera its from germany ö.ö

  • @bazamah:

This Camera doesnt Cost 20.000 Pounds.

  • i dont understand this camera.

what makes it worth so much more than

    other slrs

  • @briantran1 buy 1 and you will know or rent one to try out. retard!!

  • cuz its not a dslr its a rangefinder camera, it doesn't use a pentaprism. In short, the camera is smaller also the lenses are way smaller. But there are also downsides, thats why it isn't as popular anymore, hence why they are more expensive.

  • @briantran1

Leicas have quality and optical perfection that no dslr can match. However, for that extra 1%, you pay a 400% Leica premium.

I wish they'd get together with Cosina and make a budget rangefinder. That way Voigtlander could be a better camera and have German DNA rather than just a German name.

I would pay for an affordable digital rangefinder if it had a big sensor and modern ergonomics.

  • Selling my 5d2 to get one of theese, the dslr is just too friggin big. Becides, all the little gizmos just contributes too the wasting of my time and patience. Selective focus my *ss..

  • looks creepy at 0:41 when he pops out the battery and gently puts it down :)

    awesome camera. close to perfection.

  • I love the design ... I allways love the design of leica ... erm ... where is the money :( ???

  • what sets the lecei m-series from other dslr's...such as nikon and canon.

    i don't find the leica camera attrative...sorry!

  • @ValueMSW its not i dslr its a rangefinder

  • rangefinders can have tons of appeal to SOME people, especially if you have worked with them in the past. the m-series has its viewfinder on the edge of the body which allows you to keep one eye looking through it and the other on the action. it also allows you to use m-series lenses which are as good as lenses get for 35mm cameras.

the appeal of these cameras will begin when you actually hold one. they're built unlike any other 35mm camera you'll ever pick up.

  • If you've held a Leica rangefinder camera in your hand it's difficult to put it down. Though I woudn't say the same about their SLRs, but then I don't like any SLR.

It all depends on the kind of pictures one makes I supose. If you work with studio like pictures SLRs are probably more convenient but for journalistic or pictures in the real world the rangfinders are much better.

  • Well - it's not an slr, it's a rangefinder - huge differences there alone...

  • Does anyone else find this video creepy?

  • Yeees! It's creepy camera porn!

  • @Markovich2 so so creepy man....

  • @Markovich2 Exactly what I thought. Too weird to watch.

  • @Markovich2 Really creepy. This guy looked like a weirdo to me.

  • @Markovich2 He's not creepy but he seems he is afraid to drop it! This camera costs an arm and a leg!

  • @Markovich2

    +1

    so creepy.

  • @Markovich2 Yes. A very strange mind must have been behind this. I hope he doesn't live in my neighborhood.

  • I always felt the M8 was a strange creation from Leica...the whole concept of a non full frame Rangefinder escapes logic...but guess it was a good marketing tool to sell a new line of lenses to somewhat (and I mean somewhat) matchup with the framelines of the M8. I've shot for years with M cameras and lenses and I am very glad I never bought into the M8 concept...But at least you'll be able to get one for a song now that the 18megapixel full frame M9 is out...

  • You never get a Leica for a song. The older models are still expensive in spite the change in digital.

  • The handgrip ruins the Leica proportions. Beautiful camera, sans the grip

  • No IR low pass filter AWESOME!

  • This is pointless, obviously this shows how talentless you are compared to how materialistic you are,

  • real photographers worry about the light

    gadgeteers worry about equipment

  • lots of really grumpy mofos around here.

  • obviously really likes his camera but has not idea what to do with it other than film himself stroking it and taking out the batter. How pointless!

  • did you also consider to put it on your ass ?...

  • Leica soul is missing...

  • nice, now go take pictures WITH it instead of making videos OF it.

  • the best

  • THE BEST

  • How good is this camera ? I don`t have one, and don`t know anyone that does !.

  • Oh yeah camera porn! lol

  • Uhh, I'm confused as to the point of this video. The only reason I'd need to know how to remove the bloody battery is if I a) owned an M8 and had a lobotomy b) smoked a ton of hash and wanted to see a battery go pop.

  • the best moment of this super cool short is when he removes the battery,..it money shots onto his fingers(wow!!) and then when putting it back in he has it the wrong way around!

  • @nickmoran1 hahahahahha-yeah definately-do you reckon he was expecting the money shot hahahah and deliberately filmed it that way, that would make this even more creepy..

  • Camera Fetish? lol

  • Well guys, My M8 has been my first pro-camera, difficult to use and handle at the beginning but after a while i got used to it perfectly. Is small and unnoticeable, i got to places with it where other people with the bulky SLRs couldn't, for some reasons most people have and embedded picture of a huge SLR in their brains when they think of photographers so if you have an M Leica pretty much you will be able to get whatever shot you want and get into places the other guys won't.

  • *kicks you off your high horse*

get into places? like airport security? near a live band? a government-sanctioned airfield? if you risk taking your camera into places it's not allowed, feel free to sacrifice YOUR M8, mate.

SLRs aren't that bulky; it's all subject to your comfort levels anyways. M8s don't look like cameras? ya right. tell that to the bouncer. hahaha

  • M8 is an over priced piece of shit. yeah you've got the Leica Glass which is good.

but realisticaly its worthless. in 6month's it won't be worth anything. why not use a REAL leica. like an M7 or below

not a digital leica which will actually lose value after awhile. and GOD why do you have to move your hands slo bloody slowly

  • I use both and must say that the M8 is an excellent camera. Your comment is poorly thought out.

  • So do I but I don't have £20,000!

  • that is the good thing about it, its not chinese plastic crap, it will last forever, Those Leicas are legendary, the old film ones even more. You have no idea of cameras, this is not a taiwanese pen camera vor 50 dollar.

  • id love to get hold of that camera and whack that bloke with it!!! wot a wanker lol! it`s like watching in suspense and slomo! gimme it!

  • lol it takes SD

  • Check out Leica s2 it has 30x45 sensor

%56 larger than full frame. thats what i want !!!!0

  • What a useless camera... The only Leica that will be worthless in a few years.

  • most people dont buy cameras to sell them again. they buy them to use them.

  • ugh, the m8. When you've used both this and a real Lieca (barnac leicas and an MP), you realize that the M8 is an ugly duckling(not necessarily referring to looks)

  • Wow you're touching the camera so slowly and tenerly, do you make love with it every day??

  • lol

  • I mean shoot for a 3995.99 camera i would be doing that too...lol!!

  • Come on, it's meant to be handled in a tough way, not like a pussy ;) Sure its a precious camera but it's not build of butter, the M-seriers are one of the most solid cameras ever. I prefer this guy -> watch?v=Pef7Eh_rzDY No fuss about memory card or the hand grip, just show what the camera got ;)

  • MY THOUGHTS! XD XD

  • @Draftgon you wouldnt rag around am m8

  • i think that the best thing about this camera is it's size. I so want a camera that small. It's difficult to be "invisible" with my D3 in the street.

  • Honestly, I hear so much crap about Leica, Nikon, Canon, Digital, Film everyday.... Who gives a shit about hardware as long as you're comfortable using it. Honestly speaking, we as photographers all have preferences. But, in the end, aren't we all able to distinguish a Great photo from a terrible one even without knowing what it was shot with or what lens what used? There is tons of great equipment out there. Use what works best for you. Its all in the mind of the "Photographer". Not the Camera.

  • I must agreed w/most of all the film fans.I had film &digital and to me I feel film is more tangible, loving, than digital and some cases film is prefer d more over digital.not that digital is anybad.they are both good method. oh how much is a m7 film vs the m8 1st series digital.....I wonder if it would hold its value as film does m6,m7......

  • AHAH! the M8, the Rich ass's camera

get a REAL Leica like an M6 or M7

there's no REAL quality in the M8,

and it proves you're not a real "Leica Man"

  • booo! digital sucks!

  • i couldn't agree more

i shoot with a D3X and D700 for work aswell as various other cameras

but you still can't beat the quality of film

if you REALLY know anything about photography

then you too would know and say the same thing as us,

    FILM STILL KICKS DIGITALS ASS

  • I AGREEEEEE

good lord i thought i was the only one that prefered film. it's true, you can't get good quality photos with a digital one, dispite the speed and other things.

  • Many many people use digital in the industry and it's absurd to say they don't "get good quality photos."

  • You're right. and i apologise for that. What i meant is that with film cameras you get better quality photos than with a digital one.

    that's my opinion.

  • Well sure you do ... but if your camera is helping you make your paychecks, you end up saving assloads of money. Screw the nostalgia, the photojournalism industry is 10 percent art, 90 percent speed. If you can pull it off making it in the industry with a film camera and your own processing equipment then by all means, but good luck keeping up with a digital-turning correspondent ... whose contrast ratio may be lesser and "soul" my by lost, but happens to be able to tell the story just the same.

  • Greate video! Nice to see in slow motion the quality of this camera and apreciate the unque design!

  • Overrated and overpriced IMO. I have an M8, had it for a while now, and although the build quality is superb it is severely let down by resolution, price and functionality. Even for street work my Canons deliver over my Leica, unless I just shoot everything wide and hyper-focal which, although it has its place, is also more than a bit limiting.

  • with its digital nature, will the picture quality be compromised? i mean compare with M7, which one is better in terms of picture quality?

    Thanks

    V

  • your talking about comparing a film camera to a digital image?? the film photograph is always going to be better quality, digital is just easy and cheaper to produce (Minus the price tag!) if your choosing one pleaseeeeee get an M7! you will never regret it!

  • IS THIS GUY ALRIGHT?

  • it'a funny toy...M2,M3,M4...M6 are just leica cameras!

  • I ordered a couple of days ago a 8.2 and a 28mm Elmarit. Hope to get them very soon........

  • Your so luckky.

Someday I'll get one of those.

Ive never owned a pro camera.

I'll make sure a Leica M would be my first pro camera.

    Just Gorgeous!!

I just loooove Solid, Precision, German Engineering!!!

  • What is this lens you're using in this vid?

  • i wonder why it looks like a POV porn.

  • Like a Rolex

  • Nice Camera, simple, but I would say, shoot film you will know it will last and never get outdated, or actually you know youre outdated....

  • What is this lens attached to the Leica?

  • This borders on creepy. Weird certainly. One should never get so excited over a camera. The image should be the point of excitement. The best camera's in the World come without batteries.

  • I can agree with that. An M8 certainly wouldn't be my first choice of digital camera if I had a choice of anything on the market.

If that were the option, I'd probably buy a few leaf digital backs (or a leaf system) for my 503cw, or maybe work with a RED camera. I've seen some video from the camera, and it seems very promising. I imagine professional digital video from canon and panasonic will have to improve soon to compete with it.

  • It's the people that expect these simple sensors to be completely clean of noise like their Nikons and Canons that have a problem with it.

Along with the jpgs.... they aren't exactly superior to DNGs. As far as I'm concerned (seeing over 1000 images produced by this camera alone at different focal lengths) the camera is not a let down.

As for the tool, I think it helps to have the right tools sometimes. Could you imagine freezing a person in very low light with a holga?

  • Your opinion is competing with plenty of leica users opinions. the digital sensor is really that bad. What other options would you suggest to use for a digital rangefinder? the epson with more problems?

By the way, why shouldn't people buy it because of the red dot and the M when they've put tens of thousands into their systems over the years? It's certainly not a cell phone sensor, and I believe a newer camera will come out with a similar one to the S2.

  • I understand what you're saying about investing a small fortune on lenses, having the right tool, etc. What I'm saying, though, is just these two things:

    1. Yes, having the right tool for the job is important, but Leica cameras don't have a "Masterpiece" button, in spite of the mystique surrounding such 'legendary cameras'.

    2. By today's standards, high iso image output isn't very good. I know there just isn't better (as far as RFs go), but that doesn't mean it's good, and it's too bad.

  • You know it's funny that alot of people online often talk about how noisy the DNGs are, but somehow the professionals and passionate photographers never have a bad comment to say on it. Even if it's cropped, and has noise, well that's normal. I've seen very good pictures taken by leica photographers who've been using the an M for 30 years.... they don't fuss about it.

The problem is that people try to somehow compare DSLRs to digital rangefinder cameras.

  • "professionals and passionate photographers never have a bad comment to say on it"

    1) Professionals aren't going to use it.

    2) Passionate photographers care more about the red dot than the quality of the image to be spending that much on a camera.

"Even if it's cropped, and has noise, well that's normal."

It's not the DNG's, it's even the ISO400 JPGs. The amount of noise is anything but normal considering the price. It's sub-par noise performance.

    Continuing...

  • "I've seen very good pictures taken by leica photographers who've been using the an M for 30 years.... they don't fuss about it."

Good photographers take good pictures. Don't you think it's unfair to attribute skill and talent to the use of a mere tool?

The M bodies and technology are generally more than 30 years old, and it works. Their digital technology is new and it sucks. It's a Leica body with a cellphone camera sensor instead of film. Denying it is stupid.

    Cont'd...

  • Sorry to burst you guys' bubble, but while Leica does make good glass, they are severely overrated. If you're bad at making pictures, a Leica won't make up for it. Being fully manual, it won't help you either.

As for the M8's digital technology? Their sensors and their processing technology simply suck (noise anyone?).

Sorry, but for that money, you can buy a top-of-the-line Canon or Nikon, with excellent optics and achieve a better image quality.

You still can't buy talent or skill, however.

  • I wish I could thumbs up you once more. Your comment couldn't have nailed it more precisely. In the end, a Great photographer can take awesome photos with just about any camera as long as he/she can familiarize themselves with it. You can't buy skill nor talent.

  • The price is the fact that leica isn't exactly a large company. It's a medium sized one. They make cameras in a process totally different to anyone else. Much more strict margins to work within in terms of quality. So costs will be high when the cost of the materials happens to be more then all of their competition. Only Zeiss Ikon stands a chance at being competition to the M system. They aren't cheap either, but are more affordable then the M system.

  • Good camera, yes overrated. I got tired of noisy files at higher ISO, noisy shutter, inaccurate finder lines, lousy color (even with all my IR cut filters). Love my R8 with DMR. Yes it is big and heavy but it has true Leica quality!!

  • The M8 is over rated...The slight Green tint to ALL the shots is bother some. Medium & Large Format... NO substitute.

  • Kinda mixed feelings on this one. Retro manual camera and lens with high tech digital twist. It always amazed me how Lieca cameras were the top of the line with costs that would require a second mortage to buy one. That's until I learned the real secret when a friend of mine in Africa used one while I had a Pentax. Was there a difference in the pics,.....Oh yea, his were better. The secret revealed? The money is in the lens; prior to digital technology the camera was just a box.

  • thats not really a secret, look at all the zenits and fed cameras, all reproductions of leica's and such. you can buy them for about 100 bucks online, and the quality is the same

  • Kind of porn

  • i thought the films, man bites dog and henry portrait of a serial killer were sick..but man the way you touch and handle this camera has really freaked me out..

i was waiting for the shot of you smearing baby oil into it.

  • Seguro que ni a tu mujer la tratas con tanto cuidado !

  • Mainly using a 5D with the 85mm f/1.2L II, but just the thought of a Leica M6/M8 with a Noctilux makes me want to sell my whole SLR gear.

  • Dude... seriously WTF. how many times did you practice that battery-shoot-out-on-to-fingers thing... kind of creepy. I'll say it was kind of cool at the same time though lol.

  • LOL good one

  • The Leica M8 manual describes that exclusive Leica-developed technique of removing Leica battery from Leica camera body. It is patented that's why users of other camera brands can't do it.

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet camera

  • i agree with sergitodf, the way you handle this camera is fucking creepy. and the way the battery shoots out of the slot....? really sexual.

  • covet

  • $3000 for that lens?!? it's tiny...!

i think the reason it's so expensive is simply because it's Leica. they make really high quality cameras.

  • you have a camera fetish,, man?? it's fucking sick the way you touch the camera!

  • It's funny how the jealousy just oozes out of some of the comments.
