The 071s were built in 1976 by General Motors at La Grange, IL, USA. The later 201s were built in Canada. The Irish-built diesels were the two Sulzer-engined 113 class in the late '40s, the single-cab, Maybach-engined 401 and 421 classes and the Mirrlees-engines 301 class shunters. Of these, 113 survives at Inchicore works and three 421s are preserved (one is currently working).
