There's two reasons not to get a Peel right now. Firstly,there's a second gen version coming out. Second, the software is still localized in China. They need software that only deals with North American letters and guarantee that we don't get Chinese characters in our texts. I would wait.

As for other questions, I'm not going to answer the same ones twice, go through the comments and do the research.

Yes you need wifi to use the internet on the iPod Touch.

The Apple Peel only adds phone functionality and it does not come with a sim card. Even if you have a sim card, you require an activated service plan. Ask your local phone provider about different types of plans.

Not recommended for iPod 4G, I recall that it's made for 3G and before, possibly another peel model being made for 4G.

Can't assume it will work with any sim card, but it worked for mine on a Pay-As-You-Go plan

@bustfer07 It lets you use a sim card with your iPod touch.

You do have to jailbreak the iPod touch to use it.

When you go to cellphone service providers like AT&T, Verizon, Bell, etc... you can either get a phone locked down to that one provider, or you can get a sim card. Some phones use a sim card so you can change phones easily only having to swap out your sim card to use on different phones.

There are a number of different contracts your phone provider can offer, including pay as you go.

Wi-fi has nothing to do with the Apple Peel. Apple Peel has no 3G data either. It's just for phone calls and SMS.

iPod Touches already have wi-fi built in so if you're near a hot spot or have wireless network set up at your house, you can browse the internet using the wi-fi.

If you mean to connect while on the go, you would need edge or 3G which isn't supplemented by the Apple Peel. Only iPhones have those built in. Alternatively, you might want to look up the ZTE Peel by Sprint which creates a wireless network for your iPod Touch, but needs a sprint plan, I belive.

The majority of the time, wi-fi is free. You could go to starbucks or many other coffee shops and use their wi-fi for free (might need the key code). At your friend's house, if his wi-fi is secured and he gives you the key, you should be able to use it at no charge with just the iPod alone.

I don't recommend using it with an iPod 4G until they release a newer model. Even with an iPod 1G, you can't access some buttons. Right now it's mostly for 2g and 3g iPod touches. Also if you watch the video, we still can't receive messages in English so I don't think you should get it unless you want to make phone calls.

Text still broken. I don't think it has an imei, the Sim card was Rogers Pay-As-You-Go.

There is no imei I can see, so I suppose it's illegal to be using it. I borrowed the sim card from another phone, so I didn't have to go through the trouble of asking Roger's for anything.

3. Yup one cable and for the charging, a second battery indicator shows up beside the other on and they both charge simultaneously.

4. No clue, I tested on an iPod 1G and it has no speakers.

I don't suggest getting it for your iPod 4G until you do more research, it's possible it might not be compatible.

There's no 3G support and the chinese characters havent been fixed. I don't know if it's an incompatibility between the service provider and the peel or just the way different countries use english characters.

PLEASE HELP, I bought the peel and carefully followed all installation instructions. My ipod is jailbroken and have the Yosion phone and SMS apps. I installed a new unactivated ATT SIM card and called my Verizon carrier to set up service. No one there knew how to set up service for this device. I also called ATT and got no results. What must I do to get a service provider for this gadget?

If i were you i would research abt it first and know all it's features. I noticed in the beginning how u failed putting ur itouch in the peel 520. ur supose to open the back cover and slide it in that is how u put it in. No offense, but just know what ur gonna do before u do it.

When you jailbreak and load the Apple Peel, you have two battery monitors on the screen, so the Apple Peel is self-powered and you can see the separate charge status of the iPod and Apple Peel.

@ty634 Nop, you cannot use a Sprint (or Verizon/ Bell or Telus(in Canada) ) SIM card . They're using CDMA/HSPA technology, but the Apple peel works only with GSM networks.

I've had someone else running around with it so I can't provide updates right now. On the support forum, Yosian mentions changing the iPod region to US/English. I'll have to check the setting when I get it back. This could be the reason.

I don't think you can currently send picture messages but I do know the App is still in beta with GSM. Yosian DOES plan to release Yosian 1.0.0 soon with GPRS which will provide support for data, 3G, picture/video, emailing.

Just messages received by the device, it sends messages just fine in perfect alphabet letters. There are no settings as far as I can tell. Browsing the forum, other people seem to have this problem too. Yosian just has to update the downloadable App to properly receive incoming letters.

In regards to the Slide to Unlock thing, thats because the ipod touch has no proximity sensor. On an iphone, that sensor turns off the screen when it gets close to your face so you dont accidentally hang up or do other things. As the ipod touch doesnt have this sensor, their app locks to achieve the same effect.
