Though I hate to stick up for religion or those who practice it, delusion is not an indication of mental illness.
There are tone deaf people in the world who are under the delusion that they have talented singing voices, this does not make them mentally ill.

I concur that education is but 1 a factor. But is it coincidence that almost every person of faith on the planet shares the same religion as their parents? I suggest not. It is simply the model of the world that their mind has constructed through their experiences/upbringing.

Being a Theist or an Atheist has nothing to do with one's sanity, it is simply a matter of prefence to a logical person. Furthermore, Lewis uses an argument for a Higher Being similar to that of Immanuel Kant in that since we humans feel that there must be a higher code of justice in an indifferent Universe, God must uphold that. I was diagnosed with psychosis 3 1/2 years ago, having read "Mere christianity" several times and becoming absorbed in it. From personal experience I am inclined to say it is a dangerous book for anyone who tries to live by its teachings. Everything you say in this clip is logical, rational and in my opinion, true. I admit I was deluded back then, and my delusions were indeed the cause of a chemical imbalance. However, dopamine levels are back to normal now and I won't be fooled again.

People generally don't change behavioral patterns late in life because after living a certain way for so long the neural pathways become set. The bottom line is seeing is not believing, there were people who saw miracles performed by Jesus who believed him to be the Messiah and those who rejected him.
