  • Damn he rented out that pocket then bought it 2 minutes later he loved it so much. Mmmm.

  • Nice, Herbie!!

  • Credit Herbie !!!!

it Isn't that a problem to edit the title, isn't it ?

    Herb's stuff, Herb's playin' ...

  • this is more of a herbie hancock group plus marcus miller... dont think this was his concert... :D

  • I think Herbie Hancock should be mentioned in the title, this is his song (Cantelope Island) and he plays it.

  • 1:25 ooooh yess drum fill

  • Great to hear Marcus Miller playing real bass lines as opposed to his normal awesomeness :) Amazing tune! Thanks for sharing it!

  • Nice.

  • Somebody mentioned Vinnie being "complete" - Megadeth one day, this the next, then BoyzIIMen, then Oz Noy. Yea, Vinnie's got it covered. Saw him with Five Peace Band - he stole the first set...

  • 0:59 great feeling...

  • Vinnie and Marcus absolutely kill this tune. Herbie has them there for a reason and its obvious that he;s very comfortable.

  • Wow! Strained air..., Were nine minutes so short???

  • And... HERBIE HANCOCK!!!

  • 3:55 WOW! Further proof that Vinnie and Herbie can read each other's minds.

  • I love how Vinnie's like : "Screw you guys, I'm gonna put on a tank top and that's that."

  • Ha...dude said Vinnie and Marcus were struggling for the groove...best shit I've heard in a while.

  • sorry, maybe I should not have said struggling for the groove...don't mean to dis Vinnie or Marcus. They are both among my favorite players. Just think they don't suit playing this tune. They'd probably agree.

I really dig how Bob Sheppard is playing and of course, Herbie.

    Cheers

  • NO THIS IS NOT CHICK KOREA THIS IS HERBIE HANCOCK..

  • Is that Chick Corea on the keys? He and the whole band are amazing.

  • @paulwall1981 no it's not Chick Corea

  • @paulwall1981

    It's Herbie Hancock.

  • @paulwall1981 Durrrrrr.

  • herbie IS the Man. Why no mention in title?

  • Hancock wrote this song, perfect.

  • sorry, but Marcus and Vinnie are both struggling for the groove on this and I'm a huge fan of both.

Of couse Herbie is keepin in together...Great tenor player!

  • @dowsemeister I'm not sure if the 'deviation', you refer to, is not part of the contemporary approach to a song, that is almost 45 years old. All I'm hearing; is an expansion of the chordal dimensions - to facilitate exploration.

I understand that Marcus, can hold a groove. But between Herbie and Vinnie; there are no real structural limitations.

  • @MegaASHENAFI Ok?...I was just talking about the pocket that's all. You do know what I mean don't you?

Anyone ever tell you that you use commas and semi colons in the wrong places.?

  • @dowsemeister

What are you talking about? Where is Vinnie (or Marcus that matter) struggling for the groove? Vinnie is totally there.

  • perfect

  • that pianist is mental... is that "herbie" you speak of?

  • @insomnia12 Lol, ofcourse that is Herbie, Herbie Hancock. One of the greatest.

  • wow marcus folded on the form in the second chorus of herbies solo! i dont feel so bad anymore :)

  • @yobass1 wrong is right

  • @coffeefootcarey shoot as much incredible music as marcus has made he can stand to make a few mistakes! did you hear it?

  • @yobass1 not sure what happened there. i have heard many people deviate from a form and wondered if they planned that out or if the were just flexible enough to just let it happen and go with it.

  • ok

  • oh viniieee, your great one !!

  • 2:44 : watching the HEAVEN

  • Lame audience. I would go motherfuckin apeshit in there.

  • @Imupoffathatthing what do you expect? headbanging? LOL

  • @justaspectator01 Abso-fuckin-lutely, man

  • first time i hear marcus miller messing up a form (after first chorus Herbie)...but well, with these guys anything is possible!

  • Pretty fair drummer- who is he ??

  • @kankeranker Vinnie Caliuta: Frank Zappa, Sting, Herbie, George Duke, et al.

He's FAR better than "fair"... Use your ears!

  • @kankeranker vinnie colaiuta

  • how many phones did you have ?!! lol there were just cameras, stop to lie ...

  • @MrBEN1712

he didnt say he SHOT the video with an android phone... he wrote that he UPLOADED the video with an android phone. *facepalm*

  • I hired a band for my mom's 59th B-day...these guys showed up. They said they wanted a $100 a man..I said "who the fuck you think you guys are Herbie, Marcus, Vinnie, Bob?.."

    They were..

    Sorry ma.

  • i always keep my feet on tempo while watching this video..oh myyyyyy..

  • Does anyone know what snare drum Vinnie is playing?

  • Vinnie is the most complete drummer of our generation....brilliant!

  • @gandhi39896 Absolutely right my friend...Love him.

  • @gandhi39896 Plus; he's a beautiful cat. Very humble and unassuming.

  • Bob Sheppard - great tenor player.

  • Yes!!!!!!!!

  • Marcusssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • it's amazing how you never actually hear the guy on the guitar

  • @jonaspeter1

    i do hear lionel louéke...

  • Vinnie Groove Master!!!

  • 2 people sucks

  • what's the sax player's name ? great musician !

  • Comment removed

  • @Fili2009able

    Bob Sheppard

  • vinnie's alias bruce willis

  • i didn't know frank gambale now plays sax... O_O

  • Herbie keeps shooting the expression, "I can't believe Vinnie is playing with me.'

  • Hate to be repetitive but you NEED to mention Herbie in the title. And maybe throw a bone to Bob Sheppard on tenor too.

  • @Kunjaku Who is on guitar?

  • CooLY

  • Yeah, Vinnie!

  • Mis papas

  • The accent catch at 4:48 is the shitbomb!

  • @Efishinsea1 Vinnie's playing can be described as rhythmic miracles.

  • The live versions (3 straight nights) I saw of this tune is still tops with the Parallel Realities band led by Jack with Herbie, Pat Metheny and Dave Holland. They really took that one out and used it as their intro number. Being part of that experience will stay with me to the heavens. Three nights at the beautiful Paul Masson Winery, 1989, Saratoga, CA. It felt like I was in France somewhere.

  • ahhh the fill at 1:25 is sooo tasteful!!

  • Herbie's part right at 3:50 is amazing. It fits perfectly back in with the drums...wow! Ineed to leave Texas because nothing this great ever happens here!

  • I need to leave Texas because nothing this great every happens here. haha

  • title should say herbie too, what a great trio this would be, Miller , Vinnie and Herbie, lets add Lee ritenour to the mix and waala!, there is actually some playing btween ritenour Miller and Colaiuta in other vids, and on a show called JAZZ LEGENDS which they dont show anymore :(, and many Ritenur records..haha i dunno i just love this music.

    Cheers

    Mike

    Drummer / 21

  • *sigh*

This makes me want to play again.

  • you don't see Marcus get lost in a 16 bar form very often....I guess it happens to the best of them.

  • what RIDE is vinnie playing?

  • You know, for what it is worth, what you are talking about was NOT a mistake. Jazz

is improvistion with great performers who usually don't make mistakes and even

if they do they are professional enough to carry it without an obvious "error".

Herbie, Vinnie, Marcus....how can you talk of a mistake? lol

  • Yeah it was Marcus.... big deal, I've all the greats get lost, it happens....it's not like the tune fell apart.... it's actually pretty killing !!!!!

  • Freakin at 04:00 and a few sec forward!!

  • How did Herbie not get into the headline of this vid?

  • @JesseHiller Maybe to surprise the viewers..haha..Herbie's a legend indeed..

  • @JesseHiller how did vinnie not get the headline on this vid?

  • @musicman9897 beats me, but you just gotta love vinnie!

  • @JesseHiller I was thinking the same thing, he is the composer of the song!

  • @JesseHiller Seriously JUST what I was thinking. I think his name just needs no introduction.

  • @JesseHiller yeas like really.....

  • @JesseHiller I know right? It's like saying "Pino palladino and Steve Gadd" if they were backing Stevie Wonder playing "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"...

  • @JesseHiller Yes, Yes, Yes! I think his omission qualifies as "burying the lead"... don't you?

Does anyone recognise the the bass and guitar players? They sound tight as hell.

  • @JesseHiller Because he will always be there already...

  • I feel ur right areyou827 about Marcus should change or not but Vinnie get's caught & makes up for it in a hurry, what touch & ear he has behind the kit. I think everyone is supposed to be whey they are but it kind of get's lost & at times everyone makes the effort to kinda pulled it back but Herbie is the culprit for starting the unknown!

  • very nice ! ですね.

  • I love how loose the time is with Vinnie. Spectacular feel. If you listen to him long enough odd times don't seem as odd anymore. All the stuff he does with that time really expands the mind I think. My favorite drummer!

  • it's marcus's fault

  • song name??

  • Probably the most out there jazz version ive heard of. and a very interesting lineup of musicians to play on this

  • I love how He's always wearing a vest no matter how elegant and posh is the context! ahahah

    Super Vinnie!

  • vinnieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Maestro de maestros master of masters very good vinnie.

  • at 2:02 herbie stays on the 1 for only 4 bars!!

oops. you can hear marcus wondering if he should change or not.

  • @areyou827 YEAH))))) you're right!))

But anyway it's great solo! one of the best on this tune in my opinion...

  • @areyou827 maybe I think it's a marcus fault....

  • @areyou827 I'm not sure what you mean but I don't think I agree with what I think you mean. I think everybody was exactly where they were supposed to be.

  • Comment removed

  • @jpb318 @jpb318 I second the motion..Marcus is playing exactly what everyone else is doing..no wrong notes whatsoever..

  • @areyou827 Yes sir. Good to hear that the 'pros' still make form mistakes even at this level.

  • who's teh band?

  • interesting version

  • Vinnie is kicking ass in this
