Pilots were great? Unsafe gear lights should have been reported right after the gear went down. So they either extended the gear too late (which doesn't seem to be the case) or were blinded for some reason and could not see the "3-green" lights. The first officer is supposed to call that out as per the checklist. So they were not the best at all.

1) I do not see a reason for that go-around. Boeing 747s are not toys. They must go around for a proper reason. Disagree with all the comments saying the pilot was good.

2) The landing was not special either, descended too slowly at ~100 ft. Landing was not that smooth if you look carefully, landed at around -250 ft/min. Maybe more training would do?

@EmadIV Didn't ya actually listened to the ATC at all ? if you pay a little more attention sir the crew from PIA 747 actually mentioned about the unsafe landing gear light ? which means there were no 3 green signal from the plane which means 3 green assures all the landing gear bays are opened and its safe to touch down the plane they mentioned about going through the procedures to look after that problem and re-attempt the landing ! its simple as that.

@EmadIV and another thing is that ....its just not the 747 it can happen to any other aircraft in the world including the new massive jet in the world right now which is a380-800 from airbus ...its not the size its the technology and the control over these jets which would require to do a go around or proper safe landing procedure it can be the smallest jet or the biggest in the world right now ! hope you understand the situation and learn a little more about the aviation industry !

Didn't hear that. I can exclude point #1 but I could swear I've seen better landings before. I know a lot more than you think about that aviation industry. The A380-800 is not to be blamed; it was the extra thrust up-rate in the Rolls-Royce Trent 972 (unlike the derated Trent 970) that is believed to be the cause of the Qantas accident last November. Don't underrate people.

Maintenance is another issue with PIA, where saving is the name of the game.
