some great teams but ultimately the big matches were just poor and lacked flair. and as if they put world cup footage in of all the teams. euros are a different kettle of fish itv
I don't know how anyone can say Euro 96 was a dull tournament. Yes a lot of games went to extra time/penalties but it was still a fantastic tournament. It did help that England was the host nation and the atmospheres were never going to be flat but some of the football was breathtaking.
Some of the football was breathtaking? My, what games did you watch?
Yes, England v Holland was memorable and that 3-3 between Russia and Czechs too and erm, I am stuck. I really enjoyed the World Cup of 94 and most of the games there and expected some excitemement in England. How wrong I was. Lowest scoring tournament ever.
How did it help that England was the host? This was the time of all that fecking Cool Britannia shite as well.
@JMR83 The extra time in the England v Germany match was exciting, wasn't it? OK England lost the shootout but it was certainly miles better than what you usually get in extra time when the two sides often play for penalties. There were some fantastic goals, too; Davor Suker's chip over a back-pedaling Peter Schmeichel and Gascoigne's flick and volley against Scotland being just two of them.
England-Germany was memorable as were Gazza and Suker's goals but the number of classic games and goals in 96 could be counted on the fingers of one hand, unlike classics like 84 or 88 or 2000 or 2008.
England-Spain, France-Holland, France-Czech, Holland-Scotland and Germany-Italy just a few examples of some really bad, boring and disappointing games.
Aren't you an astute chap. Or maybe not, because lets face it you only made that comment to get 'thumbs up' and get into the highest rated comments section.
If you want to get 'thumbs up' for making comments like this you need to be more clever. Perhaps next time you could say 'two people who watched this video are Scottish'.
How good was this the feeling in the country way back in 1996 during this tournament? I was a mere 14 years of age during this tournament and the first I remember with a feel good factor and the whole country backing the team.
¿En ITV y Eurosport Si Emitian Comerciales para Eventos como Automovil Opel (en inglaterra y todos los paises de la commonwealth: vauxhall), Coca Cola, JVC Y Cerveza Carlsberg?
@qwertydanish Haha same, i memba vaguely as a 7 year old waiting anxiously for this theme tune then switching straight over for BBC's coverage, those were the days.
Who has the original transmission videos broadcast on BBC London Sport, ITV Sport and eruosport it was England's matches at Euro 96 and that includes commercial as opel (vauxhall in the uk), Coca Cola, JVC and carlsberg?
this is 10 times better than the BBC's Euro 96 opening titles. The ITV's opening had great music, with , a great start showing the White Cliffes Of Dover, then showing landscape, and Stonehenge. It could had shown other English landmarks like, Blackpool Tower, Tyne Bridge, the Liverpool skyline, and others. I like the part when it views London, and then comes to Wembley at the end. Well done ITV, 10/10! Any English landmarks which any of you lot can think of they could had added in the opening?
I was 11 when I was at Wembley for the quarter final vs Spain which we won on penalties. Walking up Wembley Way before the game and then actually entering the stadium is something that will stay with me forever.
hear hear ..and also British teams to get more motivation and less pay? the only way I see the heroics of 1990 repeated (with three british teams and two of them in the quarter finals!).
coolest music for football intro, very much missed, it captures the essence of the game from a british perspective, enjoy it here across the atlantic in the usa!
haha the 90s eh? when you'd get free kicks in the box all the time

Great feeling to have Jerusalem as the Intro song for our home tournament. I'd also love to have it again if England gets the WC in 2018.

Brilliant stuff, I remember as a kid during Euro 96 turning on ITV for the music then going back to BBC for the actual program
If anyone happens to have the song on mp3, please pm me, I'd be incredibly grateful (the guy below who says he has it has gone from youtube).

These titles were brilliant. Remember Euro 96 so well, unfortunately more so for the England v Scotland game. Ah well, still proud

England 2018 World Cup. Now they need to select some stadiums to host it. Hopfully the ten they had originnaly in mind are good enough.
