I WAS ABOUT 8 YEARS OLD WHEN THIS MOVIE WAS MADE, EVERY ONE KNEW THAT THE DUKE WAS REALLY SICK. I REMEMBER TEARING UP AT THE END OF THE MOVIE, THE DUKE WAS LIKE A SUPER HERO TO ME .FOR HIS LAST MOVIE, HE WENT OUT IN A BLAZE OF GLORY.
My favorite John Wayne movie. He knows he is going to die and he sets it up to take out a few with him.better down shooting than rooting away in bed in pain.no this the way to go. A great cast and a great movie
I would have had him die this way: After the gunfight, he is slowly dying and he gets shot twice in the leg but sums up the strength to shoot the bartender. Then, he shatters a whiskey bottle and shoots the alcohol and blows up the saloon and as Gillom looks on in horror, the gun is seen in the ruins. Then, a giant word spelling: THE END, appears on the screen. But, it was good the way it is.
