  • Today, as we said our daily prayers, we began our worship with this song. How incredible that this song would come up on my "recommended for you" . God indeed hears the prayers of His people. We are praying for a defeat of this Marxist government body and those that would come against Israel & thus insure the doom of America. God Bless America and hold back the tide of evil. Amen & Amen.

  • Playing at a faster tempo and adding a guitar does not a rock song make! I recommend doing a study in some classic rock and try again.

  • Show's what you know. If you gotta' "study" it, it ain't rock 'n roll.

  • I hope all hymns are for lifting up and / or reaching out. This version will reachout to people that others do not..

  • I'd have to agree with the other comments. It started out nice, but I don't think Luther would've wanted this turned into a song that could be danced to. Many people have probably died to the tune and hymn of this song. Just something to think about.

  • Nice I always hummed this great tune S>F>G

    Strength From God

  • just wondering, what church is this and where?

  • this is Holy Cross Lutheran in South Daytona Florida.

  • im speechless (in a good way)!

  • Though traditional organ is nice; it's also nice to see people giving their musical talents to the LORD, no matter the age or the instrument played...

  • Thank you! Knowing what a radical Dr. Luther was, it is my opinion he would approve of this arrangement, and had electric guitars been available in the 15th century, they would have been included in the original!

  • i must ask why you constantly mention or seek luthers approval, it disturbs me, you should ask yourself "would God approve of me seeking luthers dead opinion" cause he is dead after all

i don't mean to be sinical i was just a little bothered by the "luther hype"

  • To be perfectly frank, I never thought to ask whether God would approve. I already know that he approves when people praise his name, so there was never any doubt. No one is asking Dr. Luther his opinion, just speculating what it might be.

  • ahh...the lutheran theme song....love it

  • Rah, rah, rah! Gotta love that Dr. Martin!

  • sorry I may get a lot of neg feedback for saying this but I am a organist and the original version is much more singing than this errr... rock song. I also feel that these raucous rock bands shouldn't be put in churches. (just my opinion.) Sometimes I wish people would read more about the history of the organ so they could understand why we have it in our churches.

  • I doubt you'll get much negative feedback for your comment. It seems that many people, like you, have an innate dislike of anything new or fresh. I love the original arrangement as well. But just remember, the original was new and fresh at one time and probably met with the same criticism you give this arrangement, not for its lack of musical content, but just because it's new and different.

  • definitely not "rockin"...I think Luther would turn over in his grave...Luther took drinking songs and made them hymns but hearing this he may have wanted to just take a drink.

  • How sad for you. Luther, when God led him to try to reform the catholic church that he loved, met with legalistic, tired and dusty opposition such as yours. Luther was a radical. He stood for truth, And the Romans excommunicated him and issued death-threats because of it.

  • Btw, I see that you list Rob Paravonian's "Pachelbel Rant" as one of your favorites. It's also one of mine. How can you like that rather cheeky (but hilarious) video and not appreciate the Tommy Walker arrangement of "Fortress?" I don't get it.

  • loved it. This reminds me of the Promise Keepers version. I love both style. Ive been in churches where they dont have anything,no piano, no organ no nothing, just my friend and his guitar and let me tell you we had a awesome worship expierence. When I went to Indoeneisa last summer on a missions trip I learned that it doesnt matter the style of music, as long as the heart is in the right place and the spirit is there than its true worship. Keep rockin for God!LOL

  • this is exactly the PK arrangement by Tommy Walker. I stood on the mall in Washington D.C. in '97 and sang this with approx. 1.2 million men. Small setting or large, you can't go wrong with "Fortress."

I'm working on video productions of several tunes by our praise team (which has grown since this video). if you're interested, I'll notify you when they're up.

  • that version is my abosulte favorite. some of the men of our church sang it once . I had chills .. I just love that song. oh yeah id love it. espeically that song. I love love that song..lol

  • hmmm. just cannot help but think about the floods of depth, creativity & beauty God has lavished on us, and then to hear songs like this...

sing it like you mean it, like Jesus is the only one in the room, the great Fortress! the King above All Kings.

that's a reason for me to absolutely love the lyrics of the old hymns, but the way they're sung, without any emotion whatsoever, i just don't get it. no i don't.

  • Sorry we don't meet your "emotional" standards. We play and sing of and from our faith, not our emotions. And if you're suggesting there's no passion in this, you are simply wrong. Thankfully God looks at the heart of the musician, not the superficial qualities as you do.

  • good point.

    see, i'm not perfect.

and if God is pleased with it, who am i to say otherwise...

    blessings.

  • Didn't mean to be rude. Hey, the way I see it, even Luther's original was once "contemporary" and probably met with a lot of criticism because it wasn't "traditional" enough for the 15th century! I love the original, but I also love this arrangement because it blends the traditional with the contemporary.

    peace...

  • i like the traditional version better.

    rock and christian.. don't mix.

and btw,i was an avid rock fan-an actual ROCK fan-over a year ago.. this isn't rock; this is funky and distasteful pop.

  • I respect that YOU like the traditional better, but you could not be more wrong that rock and Christian don't mix. If music is played as an offering to God, totally from a heart of thankfulness, the style doesn't matter. God looks at the heart, not the "style" of music.

  • In reply to this comment-

like I said,I was an avid chr. rock fan. Friends and family expressed concern, which I derided;it wasn't their TYPE of music-all that mattered was the WORDS. TO suffice and b/c I felt impressed to,I did an in depth study on the origin of music,a study analyzing the beats of music,etc.. I'm 16; I like rock-but the conclusions I came to were solidly scientific and Biblical. If you'd be interested (open minded enough) to study into it,I could always email you notes.

  • I would read what you send, but the truth is that science and Christianity are what often don't mix. How can we explain a man walking on water scientifically? I love science, but I love Jesus more. He is superior to even science.

God cares about the heart. We made this music as an offering to God. I love the traditional version too, but this version is no less an offering of thanks and praise than the original.

  • Agreed-some things cant be expl. by science; some can. (the SI "stuff" im talking about=is in ref to the effect of syncopation on the heart/biorythms..) It depends on the way you use science, and with the attitude you study the subject. There have been great scientists who have sought to disc. the LAWS which God has instituted;others,Darwin, took a wrong/incorrect approach on science. It's odd to say that all science is wrong; not all of it is. A lot is beneficial and "on target."

  • Distasteful. Looks like yet another group of bored protestants having trouble getting beyond the 60s liturgical movements that wrecked the faith of millions...

  • The only thing missing is an eletric guitar. ;) hehe..

  • he was off that day. he had to go to work, the dirty dog!
