  • People don't often mention Guthrie's mastery of bends. 6:09, case in point. That's one bend. One bend.

  • Thank you Joe...

    Thank you Steve...

    Thank you Yngwie...

    Thank you Paul...

Each one of you have done incredible job so far.

But simply this guy is at another level. This is not fair, this is just using a "disproportionate guitar force" against the other guys.

    I am speechless...

  • Someone should tab the absolutely incredible ending solo.

  • I am homeless!. No.I just fucking want to get a top rated comment. That's the only thing i want from my life!

  • I know what happened in a lab in England they mixed the genes of Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen creating Guthrie. ONLY FEASIBLE EXPLANATION LOL

  • that lick at 3:33 is pure insanity

  • the end solo is my favourite solo EVER

  • A diddy called Sevens..

  • he does not play fair with the other kids on the playground.........

  • Shame out the screw ups. Still great though.

  • fair play to the other guy for keepin up with the G-man in the middle there!

  • he.. is.. FUCKIN INSANE

  • 2:35 i love how he just switches it around because hes screwing up a little bit.. but anyways that just shows his amazing creativity. I love it.

  • @guitaristsco so right... in the end of that lick it was lick "Yes, i screwed up, but watch this...."

  • @Timmonsec hah yeah :p just shows how amazing he is!! hes my favourite guitarist by far right now.

  • @guitaristsco agreed with you again my friend... and also hes like the coolest and most down to earth person ever...

  • did anybody else see the smoke from GG's guitar @3.40

  • 6:28

Pure soul....just phenomenal...drummer's face addictive too.

  • shit makes my ears come. i mean, i'm making my guitar faces and not even playing.

  • i think guthrie is the best guitar player ever been, i cant imagne a better guitar player then he is, and guthrie looks so big whoever he plays next to.

  • Why he didn't like sevens?

  • I didnt know this was possible... a fucking piece of art...

  • the tapping starting at 1:30 makes me believe that anything is possible...

  • 3:43 nice sound :D

  • @musicbymax THANK YOU MAESTRO

  • hah, the guy at 7:35 with deep scream, ''WE LOVE YOU GUTHRIE''.

  • he may av lost it at 2:40 but he made it sound amazin.. guthrie is awsome :)

  • @BodhiSvaha ...wow.

  • @BodhiSvaha The fact that you took the time to post that much is quite pathetic. Go get a fucking life and quit spamming videos with your incessant bullshit.

  • Phenomenal phrasing:

    (0:55)

    (0:57)

    (1:04)

    (3:00-3:51) FANTASTIC!

    (6:26) My Favorite ;(

    (6:55-7:07) Jizzed my pants

(7:08-to the end of the video) Ran off to the bathroom to clean off

  • music is about lifting the soul, giving you a sense of wonderment. having high energy, or the feeling of "power", or great speed that gives you a rush, is all secondary, aside from the whole point of what music is - expressing one's soul. if you say other players are expressing differently, alright, but if they express virtually unlistenable, demeaning, insulting music, there is really nothing to express. others override their playing with bravado and technique, rather than just feeling.

  • @BodhiSvaha Well, I can kinda understand what you're getting at, but what about those people who get a feeling of "power" or a rush from heavy, angry music? As a musician myself, I've come to learn to respect every kind of music out there, regardless of whether I like it or not. I don't like hip hop music very much, but I have to at least admit that the people who write it are generally good at what they do and I believe the same can be said for any competent musician.

  • @BodhiSvaha Certain music is meant to give different emotions. Stop trolling...

  • the main thing about metal is the dark feeling it has. that is not good for you. it churns your stomach. the subject matter is like a horror movie. 14 year olds call others sissies if they won't watch it. it's not that i don't like it. metal players are among the most technically skill of all players, but if it is done in a pointless, harsh, dampening context, it is harmful to even listen to, and the people who play this stuff curse themselves, and t a lesser extent, the listeners do too.

  • @BodhiSvaha this kinda depends on what kind of metal you talk about. I can agree that there are some pretty disgusting bands out there, but there are also bands that´s not. I for one love the rush of listening to a real heavy rythm with some mindblowing guitartechnics, and screaming vocals and i do not consider myself damaged in any way. Actually i´m probably more sane and intellectual than you

  • the only thing impressive about djing is someone that can scratch, and do tricks with the record, while keeping perfect accuracy with what the needle lands on. that commands high respect, but it's like spinning plates - it's interesting for about a minute or two, then it is old and tiresome. i think all music is about mood. if you can create a mood with electronica, fine, but almost all of what i hear is 90% hype, the same old thing, and 10% music, max. that's why it's written off as a non-genre

  • the main thing about electronica is a goon dj bobs his head like he's a superstar, when all he's doing is pushing buttons, and "beat matching". anyone that can play any instrument is lights years beyond a dj. they have no talent to speak of. they are like a bartender - they keep the party going - but they think they are the chosen one. of course, they are the center of attention in a bar, but mostly because of the volume the music is played at. i like ambient, etc, but dance music is total crap

  • saying everything is pure opinion is like saying someone made technology and someone else didn't, but they're still equal when it comes to technology.

whocares - i was talking to popcicle. he thinks metal is the ultimate thing there is.

timmonsec - go and read the whole discussion. listen to the songs and players i listed. if you still don't get it, good luck to you.

mozzy - there is no argument. i am talking to buffoons. you just joined the bandwagon.

    courtney - you're welcome

  • holy fuck the 7 finger tapping part is so weird and difficult

  • i'm through discussing this with you juveniles. there is no sense of deep recognition or connection to what matters, or grasp of any kind in either of you, when it comes to what real feeling and music is, and who the real players are. you listen to and insist on metal being the greatest thing, when it is the worst music there is. it is a waste of time even talking to you. have fun paying with yourselves.

  • @BodhiSvaha so apparently guthrie govan/shawn lane/allan holdsworth are metal?....Wow hahah you are just insane...

  • Fuck,!!!! Amazing, haha, Nice, very nice.

  • jesus

  • 6:30 that.......was beautiful :,(

  • How is that drummer not masturbating?

  • @HitlerSongs Because he's so insanely good that playing with Guthrie is nothing spectacular to him. He's just playing a show with his mate.

  • @HitlerSongs what? why would he... thats not even funny.

  • @turnbacktime

Oh come on... it's just a joke about how awesome Guthrie Govan is. I mean, have a sense of humor. It's the most popular comment on the page, might I add. So it looks like I'm not alone.

  • @HitlerSongs I am sure he has already blown his wad

  • @HitlerSongs I am sure he has already blown his wad

  • @HitlerSongs he is....

  • @HitlerSongs lol

  • @HitlerSongs Probably cause he's playing the drums lol

  • @HitlerSongs 2 hands my friend. The third hand is the next evolutionary step for drummers.

  • What a GENIUS!

  • does anybody know why he doesnt sell Erotic Cakes on Amazon?

  • @mastart85 You can buy it from the record label :) (and no, i don't - sorry ^^)

  • I really like this song's dynamics. I really love the part around 3:00 - 3:30 so tense.

and then at 4:10 it just explodes into 320mph rock. Absolutely great

  • eargasm anyone? forget what your heard this guy is the word!!!!

  • one of the coolest things in this song, FOR ME, is that it's called seven, the seventh track of the cd, and also the one where you ca always count to 7, meaning it has a 7/4 or 7/8 beat xD

  • i see and hear some dimebag for some reason....

  • @pinto4646 the hair and squeals haha

  • 6:28 wow that sounded so heavenly. Never knew that sound would come out of guitar.

  • Shawn Lane and Guthrie Govan are at unreachable points.

  • im only 19 years old. i like the best, like stevie ray, hendrix, clapton. My favorite band is steely dan, haha. but even though, I believe this man is arguably the greatest, most soulful guitar player alive in todays world.

  • ha ha ha he made a mistake! even the gods bleed! :P jaja

  • @MassimoPetrucci all of them suck compared to the real jazz players. watch macalpine on live at the astoria. it doesn't matter how fast or clean he can play. he is purely academic next to vai. when vai steps up to take center stage, you have never seen anyone with that command and presence since hendrix. it is spellbinding. only vai and satch stand out from the rock crowd. they take their lead from beck. and he takes his from the absolute greatest of all time - hendrix, mclaughlin and holdsworth

  • @BodhiSvaha add Lane and Govan to your'greatest" list.

  • oh my god listen to the fucking song an enjoy it or get the fuck off the page -.-

  • my favorite lick is at 6:22

so classy for improv. thanks guthrie your the inspiration.

  • Man... I'd love to see Guthrie and Shawn Lane sharing the same stage

  • Will everyone please just bow down, all the other musicians you mention that are dead can no longer be counted. To the person who put holdsworth even in the same level with guthrie smokes way to much pot!!This guy has more feal than anyone ALIVE!!!! Ty and ps holdsworth will put you to sleep

  • @plagueiss jimi - slight return / mclaughlin - when love is far away / holdsworth - the 4.15 bradford executive (you will never hear anyone solo like that in your life) / metheny - long ago child / beck - cause we've ended as lovers 2006 / satriani - always with me, always with you / vai - christmas time is here / henderson - saturn 5 / egberto - video by tatsuyukiito that's 4:02 / paco - video called Paco De Lucia(concert) / benson - the shadow of your smile live '72

  • well, i take back what i said. he is unbelievable. this isn't one of his best videos. this song is awesome, and he is the first truly outstanding player i have seen in a long time. on first listen, i might have thought different phrasing at some parts would have been better, and he could have accented his bends a bit more (and he does elsewhere), but overall his style is one to take notice of. i am definitely a fan. this guys is awesome ;)

  • @BodhiSvaha lol whats with the sudden change of comment nature?

  • @Kingding6 i felt it was a bit too harsh saying that after seeing his other videos, and it's not fair to rate anyone against the top 5 guitarists of all time. i will say though that speed alone begins to take out the feeling. if you are blessed with speed, you go and do that, it is natural to you, but music starts with feel, and slowly builds. no-one will ever touch mclaughlin and holdsworth because they have that base upon which they built everything else.

  • @BodhiSvaha I agree to an extent. I think GG is "rushing" at the moment but that will change with age. My personal favorite is Shawn Lane and I think he had everything you could have in a guitarist. He'll always be the best for me

  • @Kingding6 i'd say he's easily the best technical player, but i would say guthrie has better phrasing. guthrie is already in the realm of being so fast, everything else starts to suffer, and shawn was the ultimate in speed, cleanliness, precision, subtletly, and dexterity. i love personae, and i like time is the enemy, but not much else is really moving. his soloing is a rush, but overall, muscially, he isn't one of the greatest of all time. again, past a certain speed it loses feeling

  • @Kingding6 if you can play fast, really fast, it gives you a rush. it is awesome, it gives you the thrill of life. that's why it's fun to play fast, but even though the player is getting a rush from it, and the audience too when they're playing fast, when it slows down, it loses its vitality, and there is no real feeling or good phrasing when playing slow. all of the focus is in speed, since it's such a rush, and getting faster, playing harder things fast, etc.

  • @Kingding6 i think shawn is the same compared to holdsworth as yngwie is to jimi. both of them were inspired by the great player that preceded them, but neither could duplicate that kind of playing, or really get the feel down, like their hero, which is what made their hero stand out most. they were blessed with speed, so they kept playing fast, focusing on that aspect. there's nothing wrong with that, but music is about feeling first. fast players won't have longevity like the greats though...

  • @Kingding6 mclaughlin seems to have had a more rounded style from the beginning, and polished it up, becoming frighteningly fast and at the same time writing some of the greatest music, and by the late 70s, and especially early 80s, went into the stratosphere. check out david, the 7:47 version off music spoken here. that is the craziest shit ever played on an acoustic. 17+nps, playing the most insane, impossible loops. he is and remains the most threatening guitar player in history. incredible.

  • @Kingding6 holdsworth played ultra fast to start, 18 and 20+nps, but he would have sort of licks and progressions he would play, tendencies you might say, going back to 1969 with his first recording, igginbottom's. he still had some of that tendency into the late 70s, even though he had recorded some of the greatest solos ever, like on fred and in the dead of night. by the 80s, he had reached the pinnacle of reserve, the purest, freest phrasing of all time. he is light years beyond anyone

  • @Kingding6 the shanw lane improv video truly is his most insane playing. i know everyone always says it's just a display of speed and technique, but that truly instills fear on an animalistic level, something someone else over there has said about it. it gives you a rush like nothing else. you can hardly believe what you are hearing. but at the end of it, it is more of a benchmark of technicality, speed and cleanliness than a memorable outing. it shocks you into awareness how crazy it is...

  • @Kingding6 satriani was influenced by hendrix, clapton, page, blackmore, beck, and has mentioned mclaughlin and holdsworth. vai is also influenced by mclaughlin, holdsworth and beck. listen to vai's call it sleep. it's a mclaughlin/beck tribute. vai is amazing. the best all-around player in the world. satriani is the most awesome player in the world. he has the newest, purest style of playing, and the best tone, that's why they call him saint joe. they are the greatest of the newer generation

  • @BodhiSvaha I agree to a certain extent. I'll always believe Shawn was the finest player to grace the instrument, no matter what. Yes, he is known as a speed freak. But he had more emotion and feeling in his playing than most. Epilogue for Lisa is (imo) one of the most beautiful songs ever composed. When he met Hellborg and got into Indian music he slowed down substantially. Thats when his phrasing came out. Absolute other wordily phrasing. I recommend the paris DVD to see what im talkin about.

  • @Kingding6 listen to shakti and remember shakti. no comparison. i'm not trying to bash him, but lane is going through the motions. he is kind of off on his own, then goes off on a warp speed lick, then back to a drone. mclaughlin plays with intensity, he plays note for note with zakir's tabla beats, especially on the first 70s albums. he only plays 14-15nps on those 70s records, but sustained, and what he is playing, and the way he interacts with the other players, is astounding.

  • @Kingding6 mclaughlin invented it. he is the first and still really the only westerner who can play and interact with north and south indian musicians of the highest caliber, and his rhythm and note choices for that kind of playing are unparalleled, even for any of the indian players. he is the centerpiece of the group, but, unquestionably, it is zakir that is the standout. i don't know if anyone has ever achieved the level of playing on any instrument he has.

  • @Kingding6 lane obviously loved shakti and mclaughlin. he wanted to try it out. he understood indian music, but he didn't feel it. he didn't really feel any kind of music to the deepest level. he missed it. he couldn't feel it, so he got distracted and detoured to speed. that is all there is though, for the most part. he sounds like he's trying to find something, searching for expression through his playing, while others express it. playing is expression. if not, you can't play.

  • @BodhiSvaha

you have no right to say shawn didn't feel indian music. only the person playing the music has the right to say what he feels and there are no exceptions to that ultimate rule.

  • @Fluffypopcicle it has to do with music in general. art is feeling. if you don't feel something it's not art. it's a display. yes, the player feels whatever they do, but the listener senses it instantly, if there is something there. there is no fooling anyone. it is about depth of soul of the player, and of the listener. he is a phenomenal player, but never really "had it". insisting that shawn is the greatest musician is just refusing to see to what is actually there.

  • @BodhiSvaha

sorry for the late response, but you totally fail. some listener can't feel something, but that doesn't mean something isn't there. some people think bands like decapitated are just noise and don't feel anything, but there is something there and the people who feel it get a massive adrenaline rush. you along with a lot of other people like sunderlanding seriously lack common sense. sunderlanding can't feel anything from guthrie and thinks he is hack. you both fail.

  • @Fluffypopcicle there is such a thing as more feeling in some kinds of music than others. listen to all the songs listed here and learn something. and learn how to spell your own name if you ever want to be taken seriously.

  • @BodhiSvaha

i am fully aware i spelt my name wrong, i just think it looks better that way and that's not an argument. whether i spell my name right or not you can't ignore facts just because my file name or my "age". something that always shocks me is that most of the retards on youtube are at least 20 years old. there is no such thing as "more feeling" in different types of music, but there is such thing as "different feeling". metal is the most diverse by a longshot though.

  • @Fluffypopcicle i have had time to listen to all kinds of music, and you are completely mistaken if you think metal is the most diverse. it is the least musical of any genre along with goth and punk, and the only thing less musical, which i call attempted musical imitation, is techno. you are 15. i will give you a break. i used to be a banger. back when metal was good. metallica and megadeth are the best metal bands, and sepultura's arise is awesome. the fact is, metal died 20 years ago.

  • @Fluffypopcicle there has been no significant innovation in metal, aside from the goons playing ibanez universes and downtuning. that is a laughable innovation. jazz is by far the most innovative. it can and does incorporate any other kind of music, perfectly. calling it fusion is a waste of time. jazz means the best music. the most fresh. new ideas. it is the blues, taken to the furthest reaches of the galaxy, but at its core it is the blues. the second most diverse is rock and pop.

  • @BodhiSvaha

continuing from my last comment: jesus i just realized how many comments you posted. seriously, get a life. you either haven't been listening to the massive amounts of metal there are or you are deaf. compare the metal from yesterday and today and it's completely different. i can't wrap my mind over how fucking retarded you are. im laughing, but im confused and pissed of at the same time. you don't know anything about metal, you have no right to judge it.

  • @Fluffypopcicle the jazz purists are idiots. any significant innovation, anyone with a new voice, will sound different. if it is improvisation, and the player or singer has good phrashing, it is jazz, the best jazz. to me, only the best players are jazz players. jimi was reaching into it, beck reaches into it, and page just touches it. almost everything else is total crap. world music can be called the jazz of various countries, but black american jazz is by far the greatest music.

  • @Fluffypopcicle most of the jazz players today are rehashing what has been done in the 60s. they are no more than karaoke players. and people will give you crap if you don't phrase exactly like them, don't do all the same old crap they all do. in that way, they are a lot like shredders. maybe a little more versatile, and have more reserve, but there is nothing truly moving about what they are playing. it is restating something old, that has been done a hundred times already.

  • @Fluffypopcicle metal now is like jazz was 20 or 30 years ago. coasting on its past achievements. the difference between jazz and metal is that there are always jazz players that are outside of any mould, pushing the boundaries in whatever way they choose, whatever way they happen to be going. metal has no room for improvement. it's the same heavy sound, the same old crap, and it is pathetic to hear it, and the most pathetic thing ever when someone listens to it exclusively.

  • @Fluffypopcicle most of the good jazz players were around in the 60s. miles davis is the archsage of all music. his is the most haunting playing of all time. look at him in his interviews. look at the depth of his eyes, the profundity of what he is saying. everything else revolves around him. they say jazz died when he did. it pretty much did, with the exception of the people who played with him, and few others. herbie is the greatest pianist of all time. wayne is the greatest saxophonist today.

  • @Fluffypopcicle aside from these players, almost all of them are guitarists - mclaughlin, metheny, holdsworth. the great drummers, dejohnette, cobham, chambers, (and tony williams and elvin jones), play great on others' albums, but the music doesn't have the same vitality on their own albums. al di meola is a phenomenal composer, but his playing is not in a league with the other players. he is perfect as a tango player. check out "plays piazzolla" and "the infinite desire".

  • @BodhiSvaha don't forget Tatum and Peterson. Some of the best musicians there to.

  • @Kingding6 yeah totally...i was trying to list the greatest living musicians...the list would be much longer if you included everyone haha ;)

  • @Fluffypopcicle there are great jazz singers also. nancy wilson, chaka khan, lalah hathaway, natalie cole, jimmy scott, but almost all of these, and almost all of the greats in any genre, have been around for a long time. stevie wonder is a great among the greats. even though jazz has great players, there really aren't that many, in the end, that are endlessly inventive, and have the most moving playing. same goes for any genre. good music exists everywhere, but it's mostly black american music.

  • @Fluffypopcicle modern r&b and hip-hop is going through what metal went through 20 years ago. it is old and tired. as a whole, and genre is past its prime. some of the top recent music is hip hop and r&b, but mostly in the 90s. it is time for a great upheaval of the old, and a new genre, or new genres, will be born. you get a feeling of indifference and repulsion to it. you've heard it too much, it has lost its edge, it is going nowhere. i guess it needs to do that for something new to be born.

  • @BodhiSvaha

bull shit. there are over 30 different genres of metal and there are still new metal bands and they are hitting success. there are still people around the world who are getting into metal, if anything it's getting more popular. you don't now shit about the metal scene.

  • @Fluffypopcicle dude. if all you listen to is metal, you are completely clueless about music. the reason i don't listen to metal is because practically every other genre of music is better, is more musical, and will have longevity (i will continue to listen to it forever, unlike music that gives you a "rush" and nothing else). i don't care if there are 50 genres of metal. it's 50 different kinds of noise that barely qualifies as music. in time you will realize this.

  • @BodhiSvaha

lol you truly have no idea what musical talent is if you think almost every other music genre is better. metal gives you more than just a "rush". you can poor more types of emotion in metal than any other music. anger, sorrow, pride, grief, love, happiness etc. you can do it all with metal. all metal sounds different and the only reason you think it's just noise is because you don't. go listen to escent of the arch angel by kamelot and call that just noise. you epicly fail.

  • @BodhiSvaha

continuing: oh, and i listen to all forms of good music, not just metal. classical, jazz, blues, jazz fusion, experiental, new age, rap (good rap), rock, techno etc. i bet you can't even make a metal song. i have enjoyed practically every music genre in existence, but metal has stuck with me the longest because there are more things to do with it and it is the most versatile. i play these genres of music, unlike you who doesn't know shit about metal.

  • @BodhiSvaha - This argument is a fail - there is NO such thing as a certain kind of music having "more feel" than another... Take punk - personally, I hate it, but there is still feel in some of it. I love jazz, but some of it is mind numbingly boring - with some players merely trying to cope with playing the changes. Your argument reeks of a little kid's intellect - grow up, and lose the ignorance... Oh, and yes, Jimi Hendrix is NOT the best guitar player in the world... even if he WERE alive..

  • @Fluffypopcicle listen to john on goodbye pork pie hat live. jonas is peaking as john crests over the summit into the heights of ecstasy. i have never seen playing like that from anyone else.

type in zyryab. look at john's playing. even paco is mesmerized. they are the grandmasters of all guitar players. the greatest acoustic duo recording of all time. music of the gods

  • @Kingding6 he even played with some of the indian players from shakti, and they highly regard him as a player also, but it's more because he takes playing to new heights, the thrill and rush of the speed he's playing at, but it's more organic and real with mclaughlin. natural. it is completely natural because it is his music, and the indian musicians bland in perfectly with him (i would say more he blends in perfectly with them). there really is no discussing that. john is untouchable

  • @Kingding6 i listened to a few clips. aga of the ladies is a good song. it is an enjoyable listen, and a different side to his playing, with some nice soloing, but if you heard him playing that way with a regular trio, it would sound the same as it always does. there is something missing. allowing the feeling to guide you. it always sounds so calculated, like "oh i'll put the next note here", for the slow playing. then fast warping. he never really let it take him where it might have...

  • great player, but doesn't have the greatest phrasing, has a terrible vibrato, and no sustain. those are the key elements in feel. he plays with more precision and breathtaking speed than anyone except perhaps lane, and maybe alternate picks faster, but he will never be in the echelon of hendrix, mclaughlin, holdsworth, metheny and beck. fast players place speed first, and sacrifice all other aspects of the music for it. that's just how it goes.

  • he'll never match the good old fat man!!!!!!!!!!!! SHAWN LANE!!!

  • @shawnlanefatty9393 True Say

  • the outro solo is the best solo i have ever heard in my 30 years of guitar playing

  • @vheadfacelegs Agreed, best solo I've ever heard.

  • @vheadfacelegs absolutely agree! mothafuckah!! he sings with his fingers!

  • next g3 should be - IMO - gilbert, satriani, govan

  • @Bradrsnk6vca7nj Vai - Govan- Satriani

  • Govan is not a jazz player, he is a rock player. But he knows how to play jazz and many other musical styles. And he can play it all perfectly.

    2:40 - it was a mini-fail.)

  • well, due to the new you tube we now know that there 2 in 245 people are musical retards. (2 people disliked this :o)

  • @Guitareben sadly, I think the real figure is a bit higher

  • good thing just about everyone like this :)

    amazing!

  • This is fucking incredulous, best guitarist to ever live.

  • es lo mejor que hay hoy en dia.... increible musica

  • i love feeling really musical when i count his phrasing in seven beats ahahaa

  • who is playin drums

  • Pete Riley. He's a phenomenal player from what I've seen.

  • Total freedom on the fretboard like this has not been seen since the Late Shawn Lane

  • @Kingding6 Agree 100%

  • Fucking god!

  • The best in the world

    Enough said

  • me fascina el tapping del interludio!!!!

    master govan 5/5

  • He is nearlly equal Shawn Lane!

  • @hira1800 All of the top guitarists are equal as far as skill, its who youd rather listen to that defines choice. I love Govan because hes quirky, spontaneous and original. Of course he can shred like anyone else. But I also love Petrucci because he puts together really great songs, and hes an excellent composer. those are my 2 favorits.

  • i don't mean to rip on guthrie here, cuz i love his stuff, but he murdered the tapping melody. at one point (2:32) he was hitting the wrong notes and was totally off time and then he just started vamping. regardless, he could still outplay me if he was a quadriplegic

  • damn dudes who cant stop searching for mistakes.

  • @gtocin87 in this case it's clearly a lighting issue. You can see him turn to try and see what he's doing during the final tapping section. It does look awfully dark at points. Luckily for us he ends the song on one of the most amazing outro solos I've ever heard. Hell even Pete Riley (drummer) looks like he's got tears in his eyes hehe.

  • lighting has nothing to do with it. Once you've played guitar long enough you don't need to see, you feel. it's instinct. I really wasn't trying to rip on him, it's just little things like that remind me that he is human and makes mistakes like everyone else. BTW i checked out animals as leaders... new favorite band lol

  • @gtocin87 then why does he look at the fretboard every time he plays that passage? I'm not attacking the fact that you're ripping it' just it seems evident to me that in this clip he clearly has an issue with seeing what he's doing. In other clips of him playing this passage he nails it, even in years previous to this one.

  • I love the melodic tapping!

  • another virtuoso of guitar in this era is Tosin Abisa ( I think thats how to spell it lol) or just type in animals as leaders; very unique, mixture of metal, jazz, its pretty new wave but that guy is amazing.
