Spectacular! This is one of the greatest Canadian pop songs ever. The original, including the haunting rif at the beginning, resonates in my head even now (I was 5 when it first came on the radio). This remake is quite terrific.
@100BABOLAT I love their original version, but this is just beautiful. Love this to bits especially as they include original fotage/audio at the end. Terrific remake indeed!
There's a saying in the music industry that if you do a cover version (or in this case another version) of a song, it has to be either much better than or very different to, the original. It's impossible to do this song better than the original in the same style - so M & TMs did a very different version... and it's excellent, almost like a different song.
that was beautiful...I just found earlier versions (1980, then 1978!) and watched them, for the nostalgia rush...then found this, which incorporates all of the above with a stunning arrangement that highlights the poignancy of the reminiscencing.
Brilliant job on this performance, this video. This sure is a keeper.
Almost eery. The original was so ebullient- shouting for joy... and now it too is faraway in time... Nice rethink on this one... hopefully not all the old celebration musics have turned grey for youse guys...
Great version. I wanted to hear 'Song in Head' again and stumbled on this. Brings back bittersweet memories of the early 80's and all the new wave music and skinny black ties and dancing in clubs in TO. I actually worked for a small accountancy firm and M+M, among other artists such as Rough Trade and Parachute Clubwere our clients. I remember seeing these guys at the Music Hall, great performance.....30 years, where did it go?
Brilliant arrangement. Nice job. Dare I say even better than the original ... but that's just because I remember it first time around and as I get older I like it when artists do different arrangements of their earlier songs. Anyhow, liked this a lot.
this song is so bittersweet for me..i was in high school & living in (New Brunswick, Canada in the very early 80s) when this song came out..a guy i befriended one summer had the 'Metro Music' album..he was a super nice guy..we would hang out and listen to this album.I still rememeber vividly the album sleeve up against the wall in his living room..he ended up moving to Toronto in the 90s .I eventually moved to Montreal in the 90s.he died of AIDS a few years back..'Echo Beach' is always 4 him
Here in Norway, many are at the beach just now, some with sorrow to bear. I'm lucky enough to have spent successive, happy, teenage summers far away at Balm Beach, where, in the evening, a jukebox used to beam this song right across Georgian Bay. I'm transported out of this cookie-cutter place of sudden wealth and tragedy, where I've been marooned. This version triumphs naturally. I regret I wasn't near as those musicians played (hopefully in T.O., Ottawa or Montreal.) Vive le Canada Libre!
This is an amazing version of 'Echo Beach' -- I loved the original version, but this has so much depth and yearning, yet an acceptance of time gone by. It's true -- it is so hard to believe that 30 years have passed -- I keep forgetting that I'm not 21 anymore.
This is a brilliant reworking of the song; I love the somewhat melancholy and wistful feeling of regret for places and times past that comes through. Great to see that the band is still inventive and interesting all these years later.
It's like they made it to write 2 good songs out of one. Like them both!

Sorry, but let's retire this one. It's morbid.
It was perfect the first time.
You can't go home again.

I can't believe I am 30 years older. I used to dance New Wave in the clubs to this song. Echo Beach really is far away in time. ; (

Fantastic version, hard to believe it was 30 years ago that I bought the original and played it to death. How quickly the years go by

this is a very nice version, but, i prefer the "non grown-up" version better.
