  • @underleft they do that in case they don't catch, so they have proper takeoff power. In this case, the cable slowed him down beyond minimum flight speed before failing

  • I thought that's why pilots throttle to full when they trap, in case it snaps.

  • なに?

    アレスティングワイヤーが切れたのか?

  • that really is going to hurt I mean thats a freaking steel cable coming towards you at high speeds :S

  • my baseball coach had the same thing happen to him except he was in a A-4 during the 70s

  • Nice jump, that thing would have taken my ankle off.

  • My god the guy who jumped twice was fuckeddd almost 1 lucky bastard lol jew?

  • that yellow shirt is one lucky son of a bitch, not once but twice!!!!!!!!!!

  • THATS HOW CHUCK NORRIS JUMPS ROPE

  • @mbuggy11 :))

  • haha, that was very funny to watch. I like watching these idiots fuck up. Seems like these retards are always messing up. I wouldn't expect any more from them. You ignorant bastards who ALWAYS complain about everything from taxes, to a parking ticket can watch this and REALLY see where your money goes. HAHA! LOSERS!

  • Is think the name of the jumping guy is Peter Parker.

  • lol @ the yellow jacket he is legend

  • I worked on the USS Enterprise for 4 years on the flight deck and of course the planes land at full speed so that if they miss the wire then they can just take back off and circle around. If they were not going full speed then they would not have a chance if they missed the wire to take back off.

  • @MisledEiVOL

i agree piano is a retard the wires snapped when he was around 20-30 mph lets see u fly by lifting the nose up and 20-30 mph retard...o yea the yellow shirt dude should do high jump he jumps hella high :D

  • intense game of jump rope... lol

  • i think we can all agree that Piano1515 is an idiot. The pilot handled this situation extremely well. He was at military thrust when he trapped, was at taxi speed when the cable snapped and momentum carried him over the edge. Can't believe that Piano watched the same video as everyone else and he is still an idiot and arguing the point. Top points to the yellow shirt btw. He needs to be drafted into the USA track and field team.

  • @MisledEiVOL He might be an idiot but your not too smart either when it comes to carrier traps and and the variables that come with making one! Im an AD2(AW/SW) i was with VF-11 back during this deployment as an airman and a brown shirt, aka a plane captain! This was not one of my squadrons A/C's but i saw the whole thing unfold from the catwalk i was waiting in with my tie down chains! The cable was under severe tension when it snapped, the jet was underpowered at that point

  • @wilz1122 i don't really understand how this makes me an idiot, as you have pretty much said the exact same thing i said. Explain how I am an idiot and I will gladly accept it, until then, you are just an idiot who is claiming they are from a carrier air wing.

  • @MisledEiVOL They are from a carrier air wing moron, its called a CAG and at the rime we were CAG 7! Just go comment on something you know a lil something about ad leave this to me, thanks!

  • @wilz1122 dude really? i still don't see why i am a moron? i know what what fucking carrier air wing is! i didn't say anything about that! i asked you to explain why i am an idiot and you didn't. As far as i am concerned my first comment above is valid, regarding the fact the cable snapped and momentum carried him over the edge. Wilz, you are youtubes newest fucktard, welcome aboard sailor.

  • @MisledEiVOL ok heres on example of how you are a moron! For one you said he was at taxi speed when the cable snapped? Throttles were advanced upon touchdown when he trapped and the A/C was at high power! True when the cable snapped he had retarded the throttle slightly but was in no way near a taxiiing speed, as the the arresting gear would have been lifted back up and the cable retracted before he taxied to his temperary spot on the deck! So as i said previously, your kind of a moron!

  • @wilz1122 what i meant by "taxi speed" was the speed he was moving across the deck. The cable had slowed him down enough to kill lift, so i used "taxi speed" as a reference to this. Did you also notice that i mentioned momentum carried him over the edge. If you knew anything about aerodynamics you would notice the pilot had full upward deflection of the elevators when the aircraft went over the edge, and the aircraft went immediately nose down. This would only happen at slow speeds.

  • @MisledEiVOL if you knew anything of aviation, particularly Naval Aviation you would know that there are no elevators on the F-18 legacy or super, it is refered to as just the horizontal stab! The deflection you are refering to is to create drag as well as the LEX spoilers as well! Im not only Navy, but also a FAA cerified A & P mechanic! I know my aerodynamics very well thank you! Your terminology and aviation knowledge needs some sharpening up!

  • @wilz1122 WOW, you were there BIG DEAL, WHO FUCKING cares except short little guys like you who couldn't find a real job to begin with, honestly all that mumbo jumbo you were talking about was really BORING! Who cares about what really happened? The only thing I care about was watching it happen, and yes I LOL'd it was funny,.. It really does not suprise me that you were close to all the incompetence, probably no supervision, no leadership. The military is run by retards. And LOSERS!!

  • @DAGSTERZ26 come talk some shit when you grow some balls faggot! You wouldn't have made it through basic! I bet your bitchass works at McDonalds! BTW, i am quite sure i clear more in a year after taxes than your punk ass! lmfao @ you!

  • @wilz1122 well if you think i am a faggot, you are wrong, if you think i have no balls , you are wrong again, and you think i work at mcdonalds, then you give me no choice to come to the conclusion that you are also WRONG about how much I clear in a year, compared to you. What exactly are you good at by the way? Tell us what you do.

  • @DAGSTERZ26 What haev you ever done in this life that is even remotely relevant?

  • @wilz1122 AD1(AW/SW) that is also is an FAA certified A & P, go google it and find out what it means!

  • @MisledEiVOL I hope he atleast got a promotion.

  • A real life ninja!

  • bad pilot he was supposed 2 go full thrust while landing so if that happend he can pull up

  • He did. After you have caught a wire, it slows you down too much to go flying again if it breaks, even at full power. You go to military (full) thrust in case you miss the wires.

  • o ya

  • no all aircrafts that land on carriers go full thrust, the cord slows them down and the after wire stops the even a full thrust, The plane didnt have fire coming out the back meaning he wasnt going full thrust.

  • @Piano1515 you sir, are an absolute fucking idiot and have no idea what you're talking about

  • @Piano1515 Fire coming out of the back LOL

  • there was no way to avoid cause ur supposed to go full thrust if u miss the cable he got the cable, started to stop and then the cable snapped no way to stop it

  • no, he`s a good pilot. cable broke after almost stop the plane. full trust canot pull up the plane if your speed is 40 mph. good pilot because he ejects very inmediatly .

  • ya he ejects but they must always go full thrust

  • @Piano1515

    dickhead.

  • OMG!

  • The man who avoided injury by jumping twice was paying attention to what was going on; the others who got hit by the severed cable were not. It pays to pay attention to what's going on around you, especially in a potentially dangerous situation like that.

  • Exactly. Situational Awareness is LIFE. Great comment.

  • Thank you.

I was woundering wheter it would be possible to build a kind of removable drawer (soft grounded basket) at the end of the landing deck? Maybe with a hydraulic support, able to hold up the weight of any incoming aircraft. I guess the main problem would be the weight of the aircraft? But for a $ 56 million F/A-18 it would be worse to seize it this way, if realizable!

  • I wonder what happened to the aircraft after the fall into the water. Was it seriously destroyed or worse, or did the frame prevent from a total destruction? Does this 24'700lb - 37'150lb weight directly go hundred of meters towards the ground? Was there any mean to recover the aircraft? If yes, in which state has it been recovered?

  • aircrafts over the carrier are a total loss, they just wanna save that pilot.

  • Wow

    Extreme Jump-Rope

  • Yeah.. except if u lose 2 this extreme rope it will cut ya in half or take a limb.

  • That's why it's extreme!

  • I was 2 on board when this happened. Tragic day... I also had to take photos of them helping these shipmates out... very disturbing I think the chief lost his life... the photos I took of him did not look like he was going to make it after being hit in the head... there is a lot more detail i can go into but out of respect I will not.

  • I was there on the deck when it happened on September 11th 2003 abord the USS Washington off the coast of Virginia. It was a F/A-18 D (two seater) A/C 432 from my sqaudron VFA-106 Gladiators. I was by the island a couple feet from where you see the two people violently tossed up by the wire. I luckily was standing between two tractors that slowed the wire down it slapped the back of my leg and left a grease imprint but all the others standing near me got taken down. No deaths or loss of limbs!

  • I think that green shirt guy got his legs cut off o.o

  • Wow. Thats pretty dumb. I dont actually think anybody is laughing. Maybe you should think about what you write next time. This was a bad day and not a laughing matter. ASSHOLE

  • Dumb is subjective. What you think is irrelevant, and few care. Perhaps you should think about what you type before typing it, despite being intellectually destitute. Save the name calling for your friends in the 4th grade.

  • LOL!

  • holy shit. god i hope everyone is okie.

  • 1 word OW!

  • All the crew on deck, no matter what color the uniform, are very well trained. They're not just some fat traffic flaggers you see on the side of the road holding the double sided slow/stop sign.

  • that guy who jumped it twice, is the man

  • Tell me about it. Awesome reflexes since the cable snaps and whips pretty damn fast. And I'm surprised he jumped higher the other time, dodging the whole cable when he wasn't even lookin at that direction :O

    Superheroes - they're among us.

Good thing no one got killed.

  • wow great video...not so lucky...
