  • Nice work on the video, very professional.

  • The SCA is an amazing expiriance. You can, no, will meet wonderful people and learn so many wonderful skills. You are never to old nor to young to join. There is stuff to do if you like combat, or if you like peace. I encourage all to participate. Go join.

    -An SCA member

  • this is perfect. lol

  • Preferably somewhere near Birmingham, as it is my dad who would have to drive (but he wishes he lived in those times so I don't think he would mind going to such an event)

  • @dyingdignity I will look into it for you

  • Is there anything like this in England? I have been obsessed with everything to do with the medieval time for years now but I'm only 16 and don't feel too comfortable with trying to track societies like this down on the phone.

    Thanks and great video :)

  • @dyingdignity hey im also from the uk, if you find anything please let me know!

Btw would really recommend herofest larp group - tried them out a month ago was so much fun! not as brutal as sca though :P

  • @JKT6

Havn't really looked that much but I found one in wales... I live near the border so it's probably too far for you

  • @JKT6,

I run the South England branch of the SCA - where are you based?

  • @dyingdignity Of course there are loads of people in england. We even have people in parts of Antartica. The best way of finding an SCA group in England is go to the SCA website. Then go to groups, and find England. Then find the part of England that you are in. It's as easy as that! Send them an e-mail, not through the phone. I was 13 when I first joined, and my parents had no idea about it.

  • @dyingdignity,

  • beat them down!!!!!

  • I have been to one event i went to the Protectorate of Namron it is in oklahoma. i watched a tournament and they were really beating eachother up out there. One guy even wore a full 30 pound suit of armor and he was faster than everyone else at the same time!

  • if i was in the sca i would be david son of lorn. i bring my blade through the ages as it has been passed down through my famly and you shall die

  • @uglypunk16 If? Heck join up. Meet us at Gulf Wars or Pennsic Wars. I am sure you will have a great time.

  • @JVRottweil i want to be apart of such combat. bcuz its real combat! i would be shield bashing my way through the forces trying to make my way to the general of the other army. are there ne army's or guilds in the Eugene Oregon area???

  • @uglypunk16 Well its certainly not real combat, but it is fun for many. Due to being able to have so many play, we have a lot of safety rules. Shield bashing isn't allowed though. You will have to clobber the enemy with replica rattan weapons instead. I will check to see whats available in your area and get you the information.

  • @JVRottweil well it is real combat and you should see that. its just a different level

  • I see my local Shire in there a few times. :)

  • Nice, I'm just getting involved with the SCA in Atenveldt. Pretty excited for Estrella War!

  • @xbinarysunsetx You are gonna have a blast. Welcome to the SCA

  • good to see the sca is going well still, i haven't been part of it in about 4 months, might aswell join again, then can post some more vids.

  • @SuperRekien Please do. We need more vids out there.

  • Great video! I must ask, what music is used here? It sounds a bit familiar.

  • Isn't it any fighting style that had contact with eastern Europe from the 1400's- the 1700's?

  • @TheMetalWarrior Technically anything pre 170 western europe or groups that had some contact with western europe. Still, there is no official beginning time and they let anyone play. We even have samurai.

  • @JVRottweil

Sweet. I knew about the Samurai, I have heard of some Native American groups and even some African. Have you seen any of those groups?

About 2 years ago, I was gun-ho for joining the Kingdom Of Caid (SoCal) But it was a push pull situation of people telling me what way to fight, defend. It was a bit of a deterrent, but I have never lost interest in the SCA. I have only took up learning Northern Shaolin, the style that I'd like to fight in. Have you heard of any Chinese fighters?

  • Just stumbled onto this Vid... its awesome and portrays all aspects of our group well!!

    Vivat Aethelmearc!

  • @Parrow thank you. if you think it would help recruit, please show others. thanks

  • Love the editing and music!

  • Well Met! Great Video about the SCA. One of the best I've seen. At least you let people know there's more to the SCA than fighting. There is dancing, theatre, Cooking, Crafts, Science, everything they did in Medieval Times the SCA tries to do also as far as how they made things.

  • Great job sharing with the public, what we do in the SCA. The video captures the excitement & interesting facets of the SCA. A special invitation to all viewers, please look up the SCA in your local area, get involved, you will be glad you did. Vivat Ansteorra!

  • JVRottweil and all the others wanting to know the song: I found it! So in return for giving us this incredible video, I'll give you the name of the song:

    Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise

  • Comment removed

  • I would love to know the song as well.

    Vivat Trimaris!

  • @JVRottweil

    Okay, thanks.

  • That was astounding! I would also like to know what song you used?

  • What's the music?

  • are there these events in arizona more or less tucson?

  • @shotbydalonewolf

Yes wars happen al over the country. the one near you was Estrella War and was just held. Find a local group, get in some fight practices and be in the next war. e- mail me if you need any guidance in finding contacts in your area.

  • oh okay will do haha, but im just looking at this stuff haha i went to my first ren fest this weekend i wore my moms BF's chain mail and that brought back my knight loving days i was looking for a greathelm on here and looking on a website i found some LARP products assuming from ym previous memories that ment live action role playing (i figured it with out really knowing) haha well that got me intrested just like any thing else i could ever wish to do like airsoft and such, but its good to know

  • people are willing to help xD

  • Nicely done!

  • very well put together video, showing all the wonderful things the SCA has to offer is a great way to drawl in so many more people.

  • i love this group. i agree, friendly, curtious, and dedicated. am glad that i joined.

  • I like SCA Videos that show more than just the fighting, because there is more to the SCA than just fighting. There's Dance, Cooking, Brewing, Theatre, All kinds of Medieval Crafts, Armor Making, etc.

  • Well Met! You've done an Awesome Job on this video.

Hazah! I give this video 1 to 10 stars a 10 star rating.

  • AWESOME! Great job on the video. Am already a member, and this might convince a few of my friends to join also. :)

  • @mviurilli

thank you. I hope it motivates your friends

  • Nicely done! If I weren't already a member, this would make me want to check it out.

    Adriano du Cabochon

    Kingdom of Meridies

  • @Cabochon1360

Thanks , please feel free to use it to get more people in the society.

  • Just a minor addition to EastKingdomMilitia's statement. 16 is legal for most kingdoms for practice. It is also legal fighting for some kingdoms for heavy fighting. There are a few kingdoms that want you to be 18 for full heavy fighting.

  • Vi Vat !

  • Hey, very nicely done! Very Very nicely done...

    Master Charles de Bourbon, OL

    Baron of Axemoor

  • Thank you very much. Please use it to encourage others to join.

  • Some of those scenes were crazy! I participate primarily in Artemesia (Montana/Colorado) so I often don't see so many fighters. I possible, I would like to get more info. on Pensic. Both me and the guild I'm in are hoping to attend within the next 2 to 3 years!

  • Don't wait.

    It gets addictive.

Find a group in your Kingdom who go and 'pre-reg" with them.

  • Btw where do these take place in the new jersey area and how old do you have to be to do it

  • Yes They take place every where but more are in W.A . and There are no age limits. Ive been in them seince I was born. WOW 13 years now.

  • Where can a person get the correct armor and rattan swords? I am curious because I really want to join.

  • Ebay, but you must make sure that your armor is to certain spec or you will absolutely not be allowed to fight.

  • check out the Armour Archive. Many good quality armorers post there and you can find excellent deals on used armor.

The best place for info on getting fighting armor. From WMA, re-enacment, SCA or Adria.

  • Look up your local kingdom on google (ie sca new jersey kingdom) and generally, the hardsuit age is 18

  • 16 for heavy fighting like this, if your younger you can join the youth fighting... There all over the country - Check SCA.0R - G for more info

  • And if you are in New Jersey, you are a brother of the East Kingdom.

  • The fighting looks really cool, im not into the whole roleplaying part, but the fighting just looks epic

  • There is not roleplaying. You can be yourself. There is no fantasy like elves, ordc and spells. Its just recreating the middle ages and Renaissance.

There is not story, no "adventure" or quest. Its just recreation.

This isn't LARP. Though there is nothing wrong with that. It looks fun as well.

  • Huzzah!

  • i really liked this video it was well made. the only thing i didn't like it was all about the fighting, not to say that isn't a big part of SCA, ut i feel when you mention the cooking and dancing you could have don't more then one shot of it for them.

  • Thanks for the comment. I need all the input I can get so I can make better ones.

The dancing photo was short because that was me in it and I am shy.

I primarily wanted the video to be flashy and attention grabbing with a nod to the other activities we love as well. Hopefully I can make a reverse of this one. Having other aspects as a main attraction and nod to the fighting.

I think I will start my quest to do so.

  • the market as well could go in there

  • Well let's face it, the first party in Berkeley was all about being Knights and Damsels for a day, they didn't exactly get toghether and say "Hey let's do some research and have a craft day". I love that we have much more of that now, but I think it's okay to have fighting (chivalric fighting) still be the heartbeat of it all.

  • I wish i could go to pennsic....

but gulf wars is awesome too!

  • dont you have to be 16 years old to join??

  • no anyone can be a member, to take part in the heavy fighting you do have to be 16 years old with parents consent or 18 years old without.

  • That's a pretty cool video, works well as a promo! You've earned a subscriber.

I wonder though, in the largest of battles, are formations/tactics involved?

  • Thanks. I do appreciate it.

As far as the battles and tactics?

Basically yes.. From what I can tell is that any tactics used are up to each unit. Kindgoms have their goals, households have their goals. There are a few differing factions on both sides. Some with individual goals. There are mercenaries as well and will fight for any side.

you may find Kingdoms and households working together where each have specific tasks.

  • then there is hiring out mercenaries for home baked cookies

  • Very very very well done! I would have to say this is one of the best S.C.A. Promo videos I have seen. After this video, I just might put my polearm down and learn how to cook or dance :)

  • Wow thanks for the comments. I am glad you enjoyed it. Don't put that pole arm yet though, the SCA wouldn't me all that exciting without fighters and wars. Of course it goo to be well wounded in different things. Heck I tried to avoid dancing but when a lady asks, its hard to say no.

I am looking into doing a nice meal someday. Lots of good old recipes out there. Hopefully I will be fighting soon. I am starting light and moving up to heavy.

  • lol

try cooking with the polearm nah im joking but it would be funny to see

  • this is a fabulous video! I am dying to go to Pennsic now! -Riona

  • i havent been to pensic since i was young

~whassail liam the curious ~ barony of ramshaven

  • If you want a higher quality version just add &fmt=18 at the end of the URL.

If you saved this video, I would suggest adding the extra to the URL and re-saving it. Its helps on full screen.

  • Awesome dude.. awesome.. i love the music! hope to see more videos from ya!

    ~Rohesia

  • boy, now i REALLY want to go to pennsic

  • Its like a promo for a really good movie...only you get to live it for real. Great video Johannes.

  • Than you. I like how you described it because that's kind of how I wanted it to come off. I am glad to hear that.

Hopefully I can make Coronation and get some good photos and footage. I want to make one for Trimaris, I already got the music score ready. Now all I need is some good footage and pics. I cant wait.

  • Awesome job! 1st Class! I look at those Pennsic videos and think - did I really film THAT? My 'hat' is off to you.

    Baroness Aeschine Colquhoun

  • Thanks, but the thanks goes to you as well. If it were not for your incredible footage of Pennsic, this would be pretty tame.
