  • i have a question: do you have the scores of this song?... i'm from Colombia, and i'm so interesting. if you want, i can buy it in case of you have this espectacular song... thanks....

Pd: Sorry for my bad english

  • Thanks for the video....it lets people know how difficult those Jamerson lines were/are!

  • Nice playing. Need to play my P-Bass right now. :)

  • Thank-you so much.

I know absolutely nothing about bass playing but of all the stuff I check out on youtube I just keep coming back to this one.

Must be the angelic voice, the amazing bassline but above all watching this dude excelling and obviously enjoying himself so much.

    It just makes me happy

  • Brilliant, dude. Just brilliant. I played back in the day when a Rickenbach was the preferred axe. You give it that Rick sound with such fluidity. Good luck in your journey!

  • finally got this track down on bass, after nearly 5 months of regular practise at it. its still not perfect, but i gotta say its been the toughest line I've ever learnt, very unnatural for me to play with coming from a predominantly Alt Rock background.

  • ive watch video of this song and no one can touch u on this song,,u put life to this song

  • BASS FACE

  • jamerson DOES NOT play bass on "darling dear" or any other jackson five track......excellent playing however

  • @rally41 That's just not true at all. All of "Dianna Ross Presents the Jackson 5" except for "I Want You Back" was recorded at Hitsville USA, so The Funk Brothers (and thus Jameson) was used for the music. Later that year (1969) Motown moved the Jackson 5 out to LA. However, they still recorded some songs back in Detroit, and this song is one of them. Also, just listen to the song, it sounds so quintessential Jameson, everything from the style of playing to the tone.

  • @rally41 Is this Carol Kaye?

  • jamerson DOES NOT play bass on "darling dear" or any other jackson five track......

  • great job

  • nice groove!!

  • You're the bass player i'm looking for :-)

  • Standing in the Shadows of Motown??

  • much respect for playing this so accurately. I've currently set myself the task of learning this bassline and i'm really struggling with it!! What a tough composition it is to learn even slowed down to 50%!

  • Nailed it

  • Uri, nice job!!!

  • I come back every few months just to watch you play this. Totally soulful + 100% accurate = deadly bassist! Great work.

  • You hit it right on the nail, note for note.

  • Bro. you hit that bass line note for note! Awesome!! I gotta listen again! Peace.

  • I have that jimi hendrix poster :D:D:D great playing man

  • Tasty!

  • THE BEST

  • MAN, YOU ARE THE BEAST OF BASS. I'AM SURE IF JAMERSON WAS STILL HERE HE WOULD BE PROUD!!!!!!!. KEEP DOING THE DAM THANG.......... SIR MARSHALL.

    .

  • man you rocked that jamerson bass line. i play bass, but i have a ways to go before i get this down. any tips that you can give me would be appreciated. thanks, and keep rocking.

  • Great man! You got it! I love that bassline.... long live James Jamerson!

  • Nailed it, big man.

  • Great Job!!!

  • Shit this song is hard as fuck to learn my fingers are slow as hell

  • half is learning the song and the other half is putting your soul into it

  • WTF!!!?? Your awesome dude!!!

  • I've watch countless Darling Dear vids and even posted one myself,... Only Jamerson is better1 Since He is gone on, I hafta say ur the BEST!

  • Man you lit that line up. We know that J.Jamerson created that lick, but could Jermaine play that like you played it like you... hmmm.. that was tight dude

  • I bet James had an unmade bed too. Gotta set priorities if you wanna play bass well.

  • damn Jermaine is really good

  • This is incredible! How long did it take you approximately to learn this bass line?

  • Tight!

  • Nice sound, great job on the bass-line...

  • Wow That was so great!!

  • You practically play it better than James.

  • @perseus123 technically better than James, KUDOS!. But it can only be perfect with "the hook" ;-)

  • You practically play it better than James.

  • Dude that was hot.

  • dude you are hella good, this ws nice.....luv the emotion, tell you so feel it....

  • WOW Excellent!!!!

  • Just awesome....

    Dude damn good job!!!

I am a NEW bassist, 53 yoa, when I master this song I will consider accomplished!

  • uri7777- Speaking as a wannabe bass player from back in the day, you made me smile as i watched you play this. That bassline blew me away when I brought that album home and laid that needle down in '70 or whatever year it was. I'm gonna go down in the basement, dust that old bass off, and try (and fail) to play that thing! My wife's gonna hate you even though she'll never meet you.

  • hi !!

what you just wrote was extrimly moving for my thanx and hop you enjoy making it

good luke and tel your wife Im sorry

    ^_^

  • very, very nice

  • you play with such passion. jameson would be please.

  • I just checked out all the other renditions of people playing bass along with this track.

Yours is the most dead on. You're over all groove is just more natural.

  • Wow! Wonderful, melodic bass line! Kudos to you!

  • WOW!!!! I mean...WOW!!! Every note exact. My hat goes off to you bruh.....One of my fav James Jamerson basslines and you captured it perfectly.

  • YEA MAN!!

  • you captured a massive amount of the feel and groove and majesty of the original and gave us the pleasure and education of watching a live performance...

I think it's brilliant.... Thank You!!!

  • great job dude. you played it note for note and your fret hand is great also. thanks for sharing your talent.

  • NICE!! Im gonna start practicing!

  • pure feel

  • Nice job. Right in the pocket.

  • Great Job! Sounds awesome :)

  • Damn I think the guy is moster! Keep your eye on him. Want to record on tape? you deserve it

  • Humble request. I made a hip hop remix to this song. I would love to hear what you guys think. I'm a musician as well so you know I left James Jamersons phenomenal bassline in tact and the playing by the funk brothers, I just added some rapping and a little editing. There is a free download link for those that feel so inclined to add it to their library. All I ask is that you thumb this comment up if you like it and down if you don't. The remix is in my channel. Peace Fam and thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • WOW and another WOW. James would be smiling in heaven watching you playing this. Man u r just flowing. Totally played it with ur heart not ur hands. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • Lol, it's played with by your heart or by brain. He has to use his hands.

  • damn how long did it take u 2 learn this song????

  • THIS SONG WAS FIRST RECORDED BY SMOKEY AND THE MIRACLES BACK IN THE DAY BUT THE BASS LINE WAS JUST AS BAD.YOU SHOULD CHECK THAT OUT. THINK JAMERSON WAS ON THAT TOO.

  • @WSMITH90 yea i like to think of this version as the "fun groove" and smokey's version as simply "sexxay!!"....totally agree about BOTH basslines being amazing....and yup, def sounds like jamerson on that one too.

  • You're great, man! :) It's just so amazing that you took the time to get the whole line by ears. By the way it's much much more amazing that how could Jamerson play these complicated and swift basslines with his only one single right index finger, as I read about him before. He called it "The Hook". Or perhaps his son mentioned in an interview.) I do fingerstyle with 2 or 3 fingers, but sometimes they're not enough. :) (Such great job, uri777!

  • Tasty stuff dude!

  • That was friggin beautiful Bro,, Damn U killed it. Feel and a half.

  • Skills!!!!! I'm greatly impressed! Fantastic work man!

  • great work!

  • awesome work, five stars to you!

  • Great job man, one of the best bass lines ever.

  • Not quite able to play it with one finger yet, eh? Only two people know how Jamerson managed that. One is Jamerson himself and the other is God, though only because Jamerson showed him :P

  • Holy crap, that's some fine bass playing! Amazing job!

  • Yeh man i got to say you tore this tune up.your pretty advanced.

  • great playing and great tone! bravo

  • Dear uri7777, I read you do not use tabs, but please... Let the world to KNOW HOW! :-))))

We could accept drawing, fingering, everything you want... The web requires 0:38 - 0:42 lick, similar to another lick after... Could we set a nuon for ya?

[I think it's your secret, and a bass player is quite jealous of his secrets! But you're the only one that covered this bassline "as you hear", official tabs fouls in these parts... and my ears have too be not defect proof, ah ah! BRAVO! :)]

  • NIce!!!!!!

  • Nice playing bro thumbs up

  • Its FLEA!

  • Is that a P Bass or a Jazz?

  • Is that a P Bass or a Jazz?

  • So busy note wise, yet serving the song at the same time without getting in the way. That's the genius of Jamerson. I can't imagine him playing that with just "the hook". Excellent cover!

  • So busy note wise, yet serving the song at the same time without getting in the way. That's the genius of Jamerson. I can't imagine him playing that with just "the hook". Excellent cover!

  • it's a duet

  • To everyone wanting to learn by ear or can't find tabs, just google Audacity. It's a free program to edit music. After you download it, google "flv to mp3". Use it to download this video, and import the mp3 to Audacity and use the slow the tempo feature and slow down a particular passage/line to figure it out. You can loop it repeatedly! It's easy. Also, tight playing uri7777! DANG GOOD.

  • mad props homie...you killed it!

  • Excellent!!!!!!

  • i have to start practicing again

  • This is not an easy bass line by no means, you did a terrific job!!!!!

  • Excellent playing man. You nailed it!

  • such a great job, very inspiring for bassists.

  • This is awesome!! Major "James Jamerson" Kudos to you for nailing the style, feel and sound.

  • u got it man!

  • tough track to get the right feeling and timing. You did a great job

  • Is the bass plugged in?

  • Lol! Are you serious?

  • ...

  • Beautiful Bass Playing On This 1970 Jackson 5 Motown tune(Released as Motown 1177 in January 1971)

  • Fabulous job Uri - J. Jamerson's bass lines are so hard to capture in feeling and bounce. Now, do Bernadette by the Four Tops! Play on brother, play on.

  • man you're great, that is a very fast bass line and you play it well. can you please send the bass tab on that or tell me where i can get it, thanks.

  • hi

I dont have the tabs I just take it by ear

  • @uri7777 you can find good transcriptions of jamersons lines a a hal leonard book standing in the shadows of motown, it comes with a cd with soundtrack which you can use as backing track turning of 1 channel i believe.

  • @VarykGerai

Thanks mate! I do not know if I have a partial copy of the Hal Leonard book or Allan Slutsky's one, but lick between 0:38 and 0:42 (here a bass player cannot recognize JJ was absolutely a GENIUS - and uri7777 performed this in this video in a perfect way like nobody on the net) in my tabs is simplified (it means wrong). How could check this? :)

  • @uri7777 thats what she said. .

  • @MrNathan791 This song and many other classic Jamerson Motown basslines are all transcribed, note for note in the "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" book by Allan Slutsky

  • @MrNathan791

There is a very famous and easy-to-download PDF in which somobody scanned 47 songs of a James Jamerson book (it is not complete, there are tracks from page 104 to 187 and some are missing, probably the owner scanned only his preferred ones). Never found the full version, but these tablatures are not exactly "as-you-hear" but quite accurate (I found many little differences with the original tracks, but what tabs don't?).

  • @MrNathan791

Dude, find yourself a copy of the book "Standing in the Shadows of Mowtown"

It's all there. It's up there as far as reading music goes but if you stick with it you'll be glad you did.
