  • never got a chance to play this version but i think I will go out and get it =)

  • I remember renting this game like 13 times from the video store and then finally getting it for my birthday. Completely blown away when you fall thru the giaga pit into Alefgard!!!

  • Lol this game pokemon and chrono trigger, the main character was waked up by his mom.

  • @kujahhhhaaaaaaaaaaa You're right... never thought of that.

  • What is TAS?

  • @jumbochalk Tool Assisted Speedrun

  • i love this game so much but i never finished it, i ended up getting again and somehow i didnt finish it again... i got up to the other world or whatever it';s called but didnt know where to go... somehow, the game is more mysterious if you never finish it, because once u finish it, u move on, but if u never finish it, it haunts u

  • Damn, I think I'm going to have to fire this game up and play it again:)

  • @onikage2099 I was wondering why I suddenly had that limit removed the other day...

  • Why does Dave keep healing?

  • lol im playing this on gameboy color its awesome so far :)

  • oh my god I wish I could find this and an old nes somewhere, I loved these types of games... I quit them after final fantasy 9 though...

  • Who the fuck is gonna have time to watch the whole thing?

  • 8 people have experienced an 8-bit full on NES seizure while playing this game because of epilepsy

  • @onikage2099 yeah, man. it fuckin sucks. i wish i would have known back then...

  • @onikage2099 no dawg, you had to sing up in your account as a director pre 2006.

  • @onikage2099 So youve been on YT Since 2005 o_o

    Impressive

  • ANyone notice this vid was allowed 1 FUCKIN HOUR o_O?!

  • wow, i watch the video... i skip like a quater of it, then i find out that hed return to the same town i skipped the video from 0_0

  • This brings back so many memories! I loved it on advanced too.

  • I don't know, I love this game so much I feel watching a TAS is just an insult to how great the game is. I feel the same way when I watch Mother TAS's I don't know I enjoy TAS's but to the games I truly love (such as this) I feel it's an insult to the games greatness. it's a great TAS though. I'm not complaining about the TAS.

  • @stanisgodz

Then think of it as "Gathering Info at a Glance". It's what I do when I want to know what's there, and what each item does.

  • @Barbe

    I understand, :D

  • The music in this game is the best in the series!

  • I love these games... (Sadly, you know your starting to get a bit old when you've outlived the batteries in your old NES games...) At the time I would've hated it, but now I kinda wish they had done these like the Jp versions and used a code instead of battery back up. Playing on an emulator is OK but sometimes I miss those horrible NES controllers. Spend enough hours grinding on a DW game and those controllers would really make you feel like you'd worked your ass... thumbs... off.

  • Little rare. I'd say around $50-80 range, mint condition + box. But don't remember. Dragon Warrior 4 is the rare one.

    Use to have all 4 of em' mint condition, but got stolen ;_;

  • @TamusRoyce That stinks. I know how you feel though. I used to have one and two but it got stolen.

  • how rare is this game? i have it in mint condition, and it still saves games. no box, loose condition. good game too, i played it on my front-loader NES.

  • In love how he wakes up, with sword in hand.

  • In RPGs it's natural to sleep with your sword; Crono does that, too.

  • 8 bucks for a medical herb is a good price.

  • try doing this with the GBC one lol

  • Hey, is this game funner than Dragon Warrior 2? Which is better, and dont just say cause party system. I wanna know which one is funnest.

  • @VivaLaTrumpet

But if the party system is what makes the game fun, then we're kinda obligated to say it's because of the party system. XD

Also, DW III had the first really developed story. The ending was quite an interesting twist.

  • I love both. I am playing this one right now on 1980-games but I also used to own the GBC version and I love that update. All fans should play that update, it rules.

  • Cool, now I don't have to play the game now! Thanks Dave! !

  • HELP!

Can someone please tell me how to save this freakin game! I just started game. I went to king after I got members, and he said he saved. when I came back to play, it wasn't saved and I had to start new game.

I cant save field log cause that doesn't work.

PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO SAVE GAME ON GAMEBOY SP!

  • are you using a cartridge? if so, how old is your game, and when was it last used before you started playing?

cartridges with save file use battery backup, which means a small internal battery keeps a charge on the internal memory to store your game data. if your game is old and hasn't been used in a while, the battery inside may be dead and need replacing. not sure if that's possible on an SP cartridge; I've only done it on NES carts.

  • I have GBC cart. Ill switch it then, thanks.

  • @VivaLaTrumpet You've probably figuired this out already, but since this is a pretty old GBC title, you might have to replace its save battery. Yes there's a battery that keeps all your save files. Freaked me out to. And on the same game LOL! But once you replaced it, the file you saved probably will be back, depending if the battery was dead from the start- you might have to restart :P

  • I'm using JNES and when I killed Baramos and went back to Aliahan, my town lists were empty except Aliahan and the phoenix and boat were both gone. Anybody know why ???

  • dam, som how the music is really annoyingg

  • I disagree I love this music, I have spent many hours playing this game with this music playing.

  • can you save your game in a church in this one?

  • Comment removed

  • I think it's pretty awesome that the main character is secretly Erdrick / Roto, the legendary hero you aspire to be in DQ 1 & 2.

I've only beaten 1, 2, 4 and 8...I'm working on getting caught up, I'm about to start the SNES remake in about an hour. LOL.

It took me a while but I'm starting to come to this realization that DQ is better than Final Fantasy because they keep the same formula going where as FF keeps getting progressively worse as time progresses.

  • your right its way better playing the exact same game over and over with the same slow ass battle/exploration system

  • lol I like gba remake I got a lv 1 warrior with 127 to all stats 262 hp and mp but im have trouble deciding if I want her personality to remain sexy or go valiant

  • Dude. Go sexy. It's the only way to be.

  • thanks I wasnt sure if sexy was any good for warriors but i guess since she used to be a sage I'll probably need the all around stat boost

  • Do you have to ask the questions in the beginning like you do with the GBC version?

  • Why play the GBA remake when you can play the SNES remake?

  • i remeber DW3 for the nes playing a lot different and i dont recall ever answering questions for personality

  • @zenattack2000 Lol, I know it's been a year, but you are right, I fired up my original nes game on the nes system about 10 mins ago & beat it. The ending is in fact different, it does talk about you going into the cave and the cave closing up, then it says how you go off and leave your stuff hidden in different spots & you (erdrick) is never to be seen again, to be continued in dragon quest 1. I am not sure, but believe if this was an emulator it might have been written different.

  • I playing the game boy remake. Is there a chance that the metal slime thing will work on it too? :D

Anyway, if everyone like this game then download the game boy remake. It have better graphics and a added class (thief) which have pretty good defense. Also classes can be changed to Jesters unlike the NES game.

  • Is this game better than golden sun?

  • That kinda like comparing Kingdom Hearts to Pokemon R/B/Y

Golden Sun was made for the GBA while this game was made for the NES and the remake is simply just a remake for the newer system beside for the graphics and the added features. I think Golden Sun is a great game and is highly recommend for any RPG fan but to be honest, if you disregard the age differences and get the CB remake, I would say that Dragon Warrior 3 is better. GS is already set up while you get more out of DW 3 with classes.

  • Pokemon R/B/Y is better than Kingdom Hearts, back then and currently, it is better.

  • Some will disagree with that but I one of the few who agree. Pokemon have 100+ characters which most learn totally different move sets while most RPG only have three or four. Golden Sun 2 had 8 and yet Pokemon still outmatch them.

  • Dragon Warrior 3 was a fucking kick ass game!

  • @gaarax9 Can't name a single Dragon Warrior/Quest game that wasn't.

  • @gaarax9 Still is

  • I have a similar question as the one person below asks. I have a party that defeated many Glacier bashers and still haven't recieved any drops of mysterious hats... Is there a certain class like merchants or goof-offs having a greater chance of rare drops (shoes of happiness/meteorite armband etc.) after a battle or is it all about luck manipulation and timing? I'm using an emulator btw. I read the info on your site but never quite understood how to get a rare drop.

  • That poison needle seems great against metals. Is that for real?

I've been told the best way to get through the game is with three fighters. They always get the first attack, which means they kill enemies before they attack you. Any thoughts on that? The Pilgrim and Wizard seem to have their perks, and I don't know about merchants. You have to have one for that one part though...

    What's optimal?

Does this no-enemy trick work for the regular gamers or is it only for emulator hacks?

  • I always used all warriors. Fighters die too easy.

  • What are old school gamers thoughts on the GBC version?

I thought it was great, haven't really played the original

  • They did a masterful job on the GBC version, personally I wouldn't have gambled on any changes whatsoever to a translation of a game like this but what they did change made it work better for a handheld I think.

  • It felt and looked quite good compared to the original

So they left the spirit intact?

I think they even might of added a bit more with the sheer EPICNESS of that GBC game, seriously it's like three worlds or something

  • my only complaints about the GBC one was that the enemies had less experience points, making grinding a lot longer. Also, having whips and rangs made the game a lot easier, but I guess you could have just not used them...

but it was a really good port of one of my top five RPGs.

  • how did he not fight ANY monsters at the start and why did he cast heal every two seconds?

  • Outside enemies can be manipulated by waiting periods of time. Dungeon enemies can be manipulated by changing the Randon Number Generator by chanting Heal spells or using the Wizard's Ring.

  • Who in the hell wants to watch 2 hrs of dragon warrior 3?

That game is so loooooooong to play!!!

Those goony bad guys you gotta fight,

    that's not an adventure, that's a job...

  • Who in the hell wants to read your comments?

:D I'm sorry, it was too easy.

  • Holy shit!

Also how the hell do you make the video 1:48:30?

  • chuck norris made it so

  • Can i ask 2 all?????????????

Where i can find the sphear of light i dont know where i can find that please help me!!!!!!!?????

  • holy crap the theme is exact to the ps2 version on dragon quest i knew if it was 8 it was a sequel didnt kno it was called dragon warrior

  • i did, after i bought it... i want this game

  • Yikes... usually I'm not a stickler for grammar, but in this case I agree.

    "fagit"??

  • @davedfwm that game look like FF1. wich one came first ? I believe FF but im not sure

  • @davedfwm mad brah..and your video is pretty week..regardless on who uploaded..i guess that means your 12...haha..

  • @davedfwm I agree that he should have asked you before uploading, but he DID give you credit--in the title of the video, even. If you want him to take it down, then ask him politely to do so--don't be a dick about it.

If he refuses to do so, THEN chew his ass out. I'll even help. :)

  • @davedfwm what was your party made up of?

  • :O a long but very good speedrun

    how u upload a movie of 1 hour? :O

  • How the fuck did you upload a hour long movie? xD

  • that's one thing what I'm thinking too O_O

  • *O JOGO É EM 22 DE JANEIRO DE 2006

  • THE GAME IS 22 JANUARY 2006*

  • I have played through I, II, III, IV using emulator even though I wanted to play them with original nes-console and still DraQue is one of my favourite gameseries =)

I have been playing V and VI in japanese language, so I get bored beacause i don't understand japanese quite good, so I began to take japan language cources =)

VIII is also good game which I have bought for my PS2.

  • play dragon warrior 7 for ps1 and also dw 6 is in english same as dw 5 just google them.

  • are they for emulators?

Thanks for advice, i'll google them when I want to play them, so it's right now :D

  • ...the only three games i've played i feel are equal to this are metroid prime, golden sun 2, and mgs 3.

coincidentally, this was the first of them i played, making it the gateway game to awesomeness.

  • its not bad at all

  • whatever tool you used must have had an "expel" spell on it...cause in the Pyramid, Mummy's should have been everywhere.

    Good Stuff!!!

  • One of the best rpg ever made.

  • Damn it all this game was hard.

But it's still one of my favorite RPGs. =]

  • ooh shiitt i used to get a boner playing this game, wats the differece between this and dragon quest? i heard a new one is about to come out

  • IX? or the rehash of IV? Both are for the DS.

  • there is a difference between a remake and a rehash. rehashing is what nintendo does with zelda, because they advertise them as different games when they really all have the same plot (excluding MM and LA) and gameplay. same with pokemon etc. a remake is simply a remake.

  • wtf?

  • does it make me wierd that i watched all of this?

  • Yes. o,o

  • It's totally worth it. It's different from the other 3 for NES it's the only one that let's you create your party like a D&D game. The rest of them have you or you and NPCs this you can make your entire party.

  • cheater... -_-

  • :O

    wow...

  • ^^i take that back by the way...

  • Hmm, I've seen DW3 for sale 35 used. Worth it, if just to have?

  • I have the first 4 DW's on the NES =D

  • Games like these and earthbound are the true RPG's of gaming.

  • LOVE THIS GAME

  • At 51:00 (Kandar) and at 59:35 (metal slimes) I'm curious as to the point of using the magic key in a fight.

  • To mess with the RNG of the fight.

  • That is exactly correct. The RNG is really a pain to manipulate in this game. In DW2 and DW1, you could manipulate a tremendous hit based on timing alone. You cannot do that in DW3. Often, weird things are done that appear to make no sense, but in reality, they are giving me a favorable RNG for later.

  • yeah iv only played this on gbc and it is my favorite and my second would be golden son aswell...

  • sun*

  • the leveling up around 22:00 gives me a migraine.

  • @meirus More like around 22:57 to 26:14.

  • my favorite rpg. second place goes to golden sun. third place goes to ff6.

  • What no one can beat a game without tool-assist anymore?

  • Yes, I've beaten this game many times on a console -- but would you want to watch someone play DW3 for 10 - 12 hours?

  • I would, but I'm a fanatic. ;)

Nice run, I watch this every so often when I am in a DW mood. Starting another run through tonight.

  • This came out six years before pokemon. Hint NES, fist game in Us 1985 last 1994.This was released in 1991. It is part of the Dragon Qest series.

  • Why is the beggining remind me of pokemon so much?

Im not dicing it its not bad it lures new gamers to more hardcore RPG's like final fantasy.

  • Dragon Quest > Final Fantasy.

    Final Fantasy is for pussies.

  • I like FF story much more than DW... my opinion

  • Which story though? Each game has its own story.

  • I should have said "stories", I meant that I prefer the stories of FF in general...

and I played all the FF and DW/DG games and they are very good RPG :)

  • Yeah I cant think of any other game that takes me MONTHS to get to the highest level possible hell I should get back to DQVIII if I ever feel like it XD

  • Hmmm maybe it's pokemon that reminds dragon warrior ;) cause it's older then Pokemon

  • Because your mom wakes you up.

  • I just got done with this recently and I must say that the Dragon Warrior series has one of the best story lines in any RPG I've played. I hadn't read or seen any story for the third one and it wasn't till near the end I realized it was really a prequel to the original. This made it just that more epic for me 8). BTW amazing job on the TAS.

  • I'd say it's one of the worst story lines in any RPG I've played, personally >_>

  • I would say its the best presentation of the story from most rpgs IMO. True its not much but 2 things i like about DW/DQ games is you ssort of make the adventure. You can go to the next town or dungeon for example. Most rpg make you follow a path. Another is there many mini stories not just 1 big one.

  • Badass finish indeed.

  • What storyline? The first four barely had any story at all.

  • It wouldn't let you name any of your characters, "Erdrick." Whenever I tried, it responded with, "IMPUT YOUR NAME!" or saying something about Erdrick being a name that commands more respect than I've earned.

  • you earn the name Erdrick, it's like blasphemy to be born with the name Erdrick, at the end of the game the king of Tantegel decides that you should be known as Erdrick the Brave

  • Nice work...

Only thing I can think of is that in a TAS, it would be wise to manipulate for criticals, and the Poison needle impact to be almost every hit, not one out of two or three.

  • I wrote a great submission text about this game at the tasvideos DOT org website -- you can read more there.

The bottom line is, critical hits are very difficult to manipulate in this game. In previous DW games, you could manipulate using timing -- you can't do that in this game. This was the last DW game to be TASed because of the very difficult RNG (random number generator).

  • That would explain it. *nods*

I know how insane the game can be... I've beaten the GBC version about 3 times, and at some point, it always turns out insane. *shudder* It does suprise me that the entire Romaly/Kandar/Elvenhiem part is just a sidequest. XD

  • Could you explain to me how this timing of criticals works? Can this timing be done without the assistance of tools?

  • Why the fuck dont you post the whole game? it's like 30min missing!!! and there are like 10 other movies where like 5min is missing!!!

  • howyou can upload a video of 108 minutes :O btw fking awesome speedrun!

  • how come there's no monsters in the dungeons? and what's the point of healing someone who has full HP?

  • I chant heal in the dungeons to change the random number generator in the game. This helps me avoid fights.

  • Mess with the RNG.

  • 英語版、はじめてみました。

It saw for the first time an English version.

  • whoaaa for a NES game it looks fantastic!! I must test this game :]

  • IMHO, the GBC version game is a lot better. Better graphics and a lot of new features as well. And it plays virtually the same as the NES version.

  • Dragon Warrior was and is the Legendary RPG for those that believe Final Fantasy was first,it wasn't Dragon Quest/Warrior is the foundation for all RPG'S ever.

  • Really it was Ultima but it was very different.

  • Ultima was really good too,I liked the fact you could freely attack anyone, even the king:)Usually they'd murder me but I loved it anyways It indeed did come out around Sept/Oct of 1980,but it was considered a PC title, that was ported later on to consoles

  • go die plz u must be a baby , this is oldschool rpg ,retards like u dont apreciate it.

  • ya right, you wish you were as awesome as dragon warrior

    admit it

  • I played it with 3 fools from the begining and got 3 sages once they hit level 20. It was really hard. I would just be hoping one of them would attack or heal instead of fooling around. :)

  • Sometimes the fool can do some pretty awesome stuff. Like there was this one time where one of my fools cast some sort of spell, and really turned a battle in my favor. I had to wait until he got to a pretty high level though. Might have been around 25 when they start being useful.

  • Floyd5642- Level 25... That would be tuff to do. I kinda rushed as fast as i could rather than leveling up. I do seem to remember occasionally a trick they would do would make the monsters miss an attack or something. Wonder if someone could beat it with a fool or two still in the party.

  • Looks like Zelda+Runescape/Oblivion

  • That game was fucking hard to beat!

  • This is the story of Erdrick.

  • i need the silver orb to get the gaia sword. can someone please tell me how and where the cave of necro god is located at?

  • no, you need the sword to get the orb. the cave is just slightly southwest of assaram (ashalam). use the sword at the volcano.

  • thanks.

  • can anyone tell me where could i find the gaia sword?i really don't know where the sword was put..

  • the sword of gaia is in the shrine on the promontory of olivia, which is east of noaniels (down one of the rivers). you need the ship and the locket of love. use the locket when you hear olivia's voice, then you can make it to the shrine and search around simon's body.

  • gee,thanx!!

  • where is the cave of necro god located in the gbc verson?

  • 108 min the largest I ve ever seen!!

  • no hes not the gbc version has a completely different prolougue.

  • where's the rest?

  • Anyone mind telling me what to do with the Dry Vase >.> I did the stupid rock thing got a vase and dont know what to do with it.
