US has had nuclear technology (and has been building upon it) for 50+ years. Countries are just getting this tech. Do you really think US has not created defensive measures like to be able to detonate multiple mini EMP missiles near flying enemy nukes. We are watching countries like Iran and North korea and even China and Russia with satellites and drones 24/7. @eyallev You most likely won't have either. Valves and controls for municipal water as well as for gas are usually control by programmable logic controllers (PLC's). If all the electronics are fried, then the PLC's won't work. This is the same reason that computer virus's of the stuxnet class are so dangerous because they interfere with PLC's and thus have the potential to harm many automated processes.

@eyallev You most likely won't have either. Valves and controls for municipal water as well as for gas are usually control by programmable logic controllers (PLC's). If all the electronics are fried, then the PLC's won't work. This is the same reason that computer virus's of the stuxnet class are so dangerous because they interfere with PLC's and thus have the potential to harm many automated processes.

I have my doubts.
I am involved with radio design and shielding and it would require a humongous amount of current at extreme voltage to overload the many shielded and grounded systems found in modern-day electronic items.
But it sounds good to those who do not know, so the uneducated sheeple have that much more to fear.

@ILLUDICHRIS almost zero current needed -- charge up caps to a few million volts then release insulator between plus and minus caps. Blinding nanosecond flash of nanoamp but millions of volts and LOUD BOOM!. Like 10,000 lightning bolts all at once. Little current. Things like batteries, coils and much more with thick wires will all be ok except nearby. But IC's -- another story. Think of old fashioned wire fuses - same exact principle. NOT fixable.

@johannas58 draw your own conclusions. I'm not being indoctrinated to accept anything. Since I personally helped design EMP protection for our nukes and missiles then sold and installed filters (from my own company) into the 80's I personally know our nuke missiles and bombs are well shielded from EMP. As is much of military technology. Chinese took direct EMPshot at US Navy boat near Catalina few months ago - almost no effect but it did wipe out electronics of Carnival cruise boat nearby.

@johannas58 sorry, missing whatever point you are making. It was blind luck I was viewing several correct TV channels plus watching Google News feed when everything suddenly happened. Then I watched TPTB(?) remove news stories, video, etc. ASAP. Since "they" quickly went into full denial mode with many excuses of what happened I assume "they" don't want it known plus stopped media. I don't think US was aware this attack was going to happen. Sorry, daughter graduated from Harvard - not me.

I just happened to be tuned to best Internet and TV via Internet channels when it all happened. I hit "record" so have image of Chi missile breaking water with Chi ltrs on side. "Brilliant" flash at about 30 miles up. Supposedly also hit with EMP "gun" of some sort. Did almost no damage to Navy boat but passenger boat had to be towed to shore.
