Anyone saying that their martial art isn't as effective in mma because you can't attack the groin or eyes isn't a martial artist Muay Thai (example) is competitive and used in mma because it's effective and doesn't rely on groin/eye shots. In "war" or a "street" fight... the muay thai fighter can still eye gouge and groin kick just as easily as the kung fu figher... oh yeah and he also knows an effective martial art. Martial arts are refined by competition to see what works and what doesn't.
What bull shit! The first thing you learn in Aikido is how to fall. The throws does not work in real combat. Some of the wrist locks and arm locks will work on beginners or joe shmoe on the street. But a mma fighter, even one who has not been training that long will wreck a aikido practitioner. Segal has done great things in the world of Aikido, unfortunetly that world does not mean much in reality!

seagal never claimed to be an MMA fighter so dont compare him to one, hes a martial artist, self defence is what he does not full contact fighting in a ring where both fighters know each others styles and tactics and all that other shit, on the street an attacker dont know you know aikido and aikido needs that to be effective, aikido is not aggressive but if you wanted to use it aggressively you could in a street fight and the results would be bones broken

some of the throws he does in this vid, and they run at him like these because alot of aikido techiques are taken from when wars where going on, where enemies would attack with a spear or a sword and you would move and counter their strike, whats the best defence? never to be in the enemies reach and if you are move out of the way, that to me is what aikido is, but its also very dangerous when done for real, can you imagine what seagal could do to someone if he meant it?
@Brady2k10 umm....aikido was developed in the late 1900s... it would really not have seen use on a battle field. Its meant to defend yourself in a civilian environment. I dont practice MAs but i do have an interest in them, different styles, Iv yet to see aikido used in a real fight, every video iv seen are choreographed demonstrations where the attacker blindly runs at the aikido practitioner and basically hands him his arm or wrist..

the truth is aikido is the ultimate self defence martial art, other arts like karate and kung fu would have you block and strike an attacker, where as aikido the way of harmony would have you use your attackers movement to finish him, like one aikido technique a defence against a hook punch i think it was, you move to the side slightly and do a hip throw which would work, all street fights ive seen you get people throwing haymakers and big punches you see seagal doing a few here

I actually LOVELOVELOVE Muay Thai!! I study this, too, and I believe it is VERY effective. I probably like it just as much as I like Aikido. :) I think there is ALWAYS, ALWAYS something you can learn from ANY MA. Muay Thai is great because you get to use so many different combos with your legs, knees, arms, elbows. Grab a guy behind his throat and stick a sharp knee in his stomach, and he's pretty much for the taking. Wresting is great for heavier-bodied people.
Segal was talented and learned Aikido well, but now he is obese and pathetic. If he were a trully disciplined martial artist, he would have learned to curb his appetites. Get back in shape and push away fro the table more often. Geez!
People don't respect Bruce anymore, there are several books out about him that tell the truth. He was a great martial artist and could beat most of what was in America at that time, except the pro fighters in any category. The local dojo was filled with fat masters who them selves were fakes. But Seagal is hatted in the martial arts community because he puts down real fighters and real masters and this has beck fired on him several tmes and he has backed down from many fights and also beaten.

mma is a sanctioned fight with rules. News flash a street fight is the opposite believe that. I have trained in martial art all my life, and grew up in some rough areas. What I was taught by my master from Korea who is a monk was more helpful in street fights than the mma training i learned.
Bull. MMA training is the most accurate way to train for a street fight. Yes, there are things that can happen in a street fight that you can't do in MMA (groin shots, use of weapons, sucker punches, etc...). However, traditional martial arts do not train you how to deal with these situations either. Training a technique is one thing. Using that technique on a big guy fighting like an injured water buffalo is another.
@meow42007 OLike I said I have trained for years in everything going against multiple opponents in a getting jumped situation. MMA is not best suited for that. What I learned from my Korean Monk master was more effective in fighting multiple attackers. I love MMA, but honestly in the streets with wolves it is not number 1 sorry to tell you my friend.

Remember that real fighting is extremely different from the above choreograph stage fights like the 1 you see above. Martial art might work with an ordinary Joe from the bar next to your home; but not with an MMA fighter. Don't forget, an MMA pro can also attack the neck,eyes,groin,ears,hair etc, even brake you limb by limb. These warfare tactics won't work in today's fights

Randy is at the top of his weight class and he is almost 50 years old so his training is doing wonders.

Aikido has derived from jiu-jitsu. And what's interesting is Aikido could actually work in a real fight if weapons were involved. However, it has no answer to bare knuckle fighting or grappling and thus in today's world its pretty much useless. The only reason these guys are flipping gracefully is because they practice proper technique when falling so they do not damage themselves. If someone close lined you in real life, you wouldn't do a graceful flip i promise you that lol.

But all can get caught any given day in a real life dynamic fight. I mean lets break it down im a professor in shooting you in the face from 12yds away, can Seagal or the Gracies fight there way from that by shifting there vital organs. The whole point is all martial arts are great in there own right. Judo, BJJ, Muy Thai, Karate, Aikido,etc

It just so happens that Muay Thai is better at beating people up in than Aikido; but Aikido is a non-offensive martial art; it's silly to compare it to other more violent arts. @FuckFacts Every martial art has its own rules and regulations; a muay thai fighter wouldn't last half a round against a krav maga fighter who had the freedom to crush his opponent's windpipe or snap his neck, because that's what you learn to do in violent military arts. Similarly, a muay thai fighter would be entirely "dominated" by a escrimador in a knife or stickfight. If you're talking about "domination and embarrassment," everybody is equally at risk outside of their own discipline.

Anyone saying that their martial art isn't as effective in mma because you can't attack the groin or eyes isn't a martial artist Muay Thai (example) is competitive and used in mma because it's effective and doesn't rely on groin/eye shots. In "war" or a "street" fight... the muay thai fighter can still eye gouge and groin kick just as easily as the kung fu figher... oh yeah and he also knows an effective martial art. What bull shit! The first thing you learn in Aikido is how to fall. The throws does not work in real combat. Some of the wrist locks and arm locks will work on beginners or joe shmoe on the street. But a mma fighter, even one who has not been training that long will wreck a aikido practitioner. Segal has done great things in the world of Aikido, unfortunetly that world does not mean much in reality!

some of the throws he does in this vid, and they run at him like these because alot of aikido techiques are taken from when wars where going on, where enemies would attack with a spear or a sword and you would move and counter their strike, whats the best defence? never to be in the enemies reach and if you are move out of the way, that to me is what aikido is, but its also very dangerous when done for real, can you imagine what seagal could do to someone if he meant it?

@Brady2k10 umm....aikido was developed in the late 1900s... it would really not have seen use on a battle field. Its meant to defend yourself in a civilian environment. I dont practice MAs but i do have an interest in them, different styles, Iv yet to see aikido used in a real fight, every video iv seen are choreographed demonstrations where the attacker blindly runs at the aikido practitioner and basically hands him his arm or wrist..

the truth is aikido is the ultimate self defence martial art, other arts like karate and kung fu would have you block and strike an attacker, where as aikido the way of harmony would have you use your attackers movement to finish him, like one aikido technique a defence against a hook punch i think it was, you move to the side slightly and do a hip throw which would work, all street fights ive seen you get people throwing haymakers and big punches you see seagal doing a few here

I actually LOVELOVELOVE Muay Thai!! I study this, too, and I believe it is VERY effective. I probably like it just as much as I like Aikido. :) I think there is ALWAYS, ALWAYS something you can learn from ANY MA. Muay Thai is great because you get to use so many different combos with your legs, knees, arms, elbows. Grab a guy behind his throat and stick a sharp knee in his stomach, and he's pretty much for the taking. Wresting is great for heavier-bodied people.

People don't respect Bruce anymore, there are several books out about him that tell the truth. He was a great martial artist and could beat most of what was in America at that time, except the pro fighters in any category. The local dojo was filled with fat masters who them selves were fakes. But Seagal is hatted in the martial arts community because he puts down real fighters and real masters and this has beck fired on him several tmes and he has backed down from many fights and also beaten.

mma is a sanctioned fight with rules. News flash a street fight is the opposite believe that. I have trained in martial art all my life, and grew up in some rough areas. What I was taught by my master from Korea who is a monk was more helpful in street fights than the mma training i learned.

Bull. MMA training is the most accurate way to train for a street fight. Yes, there are things that can happen in a street fight that you can't do in MMA (groin shots, use of weapons, sucker punches, etc...). However, traditional martial arts do not train you how to deal with these situations either. Training a technique is one thing. Using that technique on a big guy fighting like an injured water buffalo is another.

Remember that real fighting is extremely different from the above choreograph stage fights like the 1 you see above. Martial art might work with an ordinary Joe from the bar next to your home; but not with an MMA fighter. Don't forget, an MMA pro can also attack the neck,eyes,groin,ears,hair etc, even brake you limb by limb. These warfare tactics won't work in today's fights

Coutores "ineffective" training led to amazing fighters out of his camp and he had the title a 1 point. segal never had a title expect in his fake akido competions. Aikido has derived from jiu-jitsu. And what's interesting is Aikido could actually work in a real fight if weapons were involved. However, it has no answer to bare knuckle fighting or grappling and thus in today's world its pretty much useless. The only reason these guys are flipping gracefully is because they practice proper technique when falling so they do not damage themselves. If someone close lined you in real life, you wouldn't do a graceful flip i promise you that lol.

For the 50 millionth time. Aikido is NOT meant for competitions. Period. It is for self-defense ONLY, and Like some else mentioned, a way of life. It is a peaceful MA just like Tai Chi. You would never see a Tai Chi Master wasting his time trying to prove himself to all these meat heads. Why can't people just understand that? Not all MAs are meant for competitive sports. Aikido is one of them. Put your penises back in your pants... and try to get that through your thick fat skulls.

@TheThetruthiz what are you talking about? All of these guys to include the Gracies can do some great fighting, and are great Professors of there arts. But all can get caught any given day in a real life dynamic fight. I mean lets break it down im a professor in shooting you in the face from 12yds away, can Seagal or the Gracies fight there way from that by shifting there vital organs. The whole point is all martial arts are great in there own right. Judo, BJJ, Muy Thai, Karate, Aikido,etc

Seriously--an actual fight with an aikidoka would be quite quick--random guy comes at aikidoka with a fist or a bottle, aikidoka flips guy, guy doesn't know how to flip and lands badly, aikidoka has to explain to the cops why a random guy has to be taken away on a stretcher with a neckbrace. @milesbennettdyson But if his opponent isn't a random civilian and actually knows a martial art such as muay thai, or just boxing, karate, even TKD! then the Aikido guy goes to the hospital instead, because Aikido only works on a much less disciplined fighter. Aikido master vs. Muay Thai master= Aikido master being humiliated, badly. Which is why it never happens.

@FuckFacts It's possible--but a practitioner of any martial art is more than capable of defending himself against a practitioner of another art. It just so happens that Muay Thai is better at beating people up in than Aikido; but Aikido is a non-offensive martial art; it's silly to compare it to other more violent arts. And if you really want to humiliate a martial arts master, simply shoot him in the stomach with a pocketed .38 before he's within striking distance. Achievement unlocked.

@FuckFacts Every martial art has its own rules and regulations; a muay thai fighter wouldn't last half a round against a krav maga fighter who had the freedom to crush his opponent's windpipe or snap his neck, because that's what you learn to do in violent military arts. Similarly, a muay thai fighter would be entirely "dominated" by a escrimador in a knife or stickfight. If you're talking about "domination and embarrassment," everybody is equally at risk outside of their own discipline.
