  • Its the battery 100%

  • THAT IS BAD!!!! I think

hmm... I think something mite be ceezed, not sure or starter motor

  • @ahodina9811, flooded sparkplugs due to hole in air intake that confused the computer to put more fuel than air.

  • @virtute71 i have a similar promblem, i am running a non-stock intake. is this why it wont start?

  • @virtute71 naw fuel is vacuum controlled

  • no his battery is dead my did the same thing..

  • Bmw's are great cars to depend on they last a long time I have the same color and model Bmw as this one shown and it was making the same noise as this one and the problem was that the battery needed a boost that all

  • bmw=crap

  • no compression sounds like starter or the engine is dead.

  • @gismo1911a yeh all sweet d exhaust cat was blocked up how I new that i took off d o2 sensor an gave it a crank an there u go with out a doubt it ran like a beast so I rev the shits out off it so yeh finally all good now

  • @Mrrx4move Did you fix your issue? If so, what was the fix?

  • Starter problems or battery is my guess. Probably battery. Old BMW's don't seem to be problematic.

  • it seems like a pic and just putting some effects -_-

  • its the starter

  • Batterie Alle!!!

  • WTF How can a Bimmer break down? :D

  • @CroAuslander ... bad owner..... me :(

  • @virtute71 What did u do? Put a fist full of nails in the oil container?

  • baterry!!!!

  • Its your starter, hit it with a hammer and try it again, if it works then, thats the problem. Hope this helps.

  • @hiking40 haha yea the old hammer trick

  • my dad has the same car..there a beast

  • Symptom: Engine will not start....

A; No Spark, Check Ignition System

B: Incorrect Valve Timing, Check Timing Chain.

I hope this will help in a way..

  • My 328i(96') did something similar to this... as soon as i got home.. i checked it out.. looked from top to bottom.. it was like a horrible screeching sound... so i turned it on.. was checking around turns out one of my belt was DONEzo! so now i gotta replace a ribbed belt.. but my fan was running well and from the looks of it your fan barely wants to spin.. i dunno might be you're belt slipping

  • dead battery

  • starter no doubt

  • soo what was wrong?

  • @orbit789321

The air intake tube had a huge tear that you can put your whole fist in it. It confused the computer that measures the amount of air that goes to the engine. So the air-gas mixture was all wrong. This caused the spark plugs to be flooded with gas so it was soaked and couldn't ignite. After $180 of repairs with new spark plugs and new air intake tube. The car is running great!

BMW Claridge of Fremont wanted me to pay $7,000 to replace the whole engine.

  • @virtute71

    hi

spark plugs and hole in intake tube has nothing to do with your starter that even not trying to start engine. smoke is coming directly from starter because it can't move itself.

As said before, hit it with hammer and try again to start engine (if you will have that problem)

  • @virtute71 Wow! congrats on fixing that beauty up. I'm considering grabbing one of these myself. Has yours started to rust at all anywhere? Are there any issues you know are common to 96 328is? One of the cars I'm looking at it is 3000 dollars with extra snow tire/rim. It has 200000km which is about 130000 miles. Clutch, suspension, water pump replaced. Oil constantly changed and full service records. Car is "salvage" but only due to a recent cosmetic accident which was repaired. Any advice?

  • Water pumped was recalled on the 96, they notoriously broke because it was plastic. A 15yr old car, recheck all the plastic/rubber trims on the windows/windshields and all rubber hoses in the engine compartment for rot/brittleness, they're going to be the first to fail due to heat and sun exposure. I don't notice any rust except for nicks and spots that rocks caused on the paint. That should be patched quickly. Wax the car often unless the prev. own took care of the care, clear coat could go.

  • @virtute71 lol ....7k usd for a engine ...

  • Locked up tight.

  • THIS...would scare the S.. out of me on my E46.... but the problem may be in fact a bit serious. It could be the starter (which i would check right away), or it could be something in the very heart of the engine. It could be a jammed cylinder as well. Look around the forums (bimmerforum etc) this may be more help to you....

  • crank position sensor is bad

  • try bypasssing the starter relay with a heavy jumper or screwdriver - try cleaning ur battery terminals - it could also be that your solenoid is stuck and not powered. Maybe missing teeth on flywheel ... cuz ur starter doesnt sound like its spinning

  • plz help me i have the same problem. it just happend tonight . it makes the same noise . what is the problem

  • well have someone check the spark plugs, they could be flooded, check the air tube between the air filter and engine, if there are any cracks, holes. etc.

  • it might be ur iginition starter tha burned

  • it sound like the starter

  • flat battery

  • he says in the description that he already changed the battery. that's weird eh? that totally sounds like a flat battery.

could it be the spark plugs?

  • Congratulations! It was the spark plugs. They were all black & wet. Probable cause was the tubing after the air filter and air sensor that connects to the engine block had a big gash you can stick a fist in. It gave false air readings for the air+fuel mixture. Spark plugs were flooded. Total cost to repair, $180. Claridge BMW of Fremont, Ca. wanted $7,000 for full investigation and repair for a cylinder compression problem. Crooks! My BMW came out worse than it came in...

  • The hydrolics on my hood are shot, with one unhinged when I opened it coming from the dealership I now use a shower curtain pole. My leather back passenger seats have defects I haven't noticed for the last 12 yrs I had the car and the seats are a bit loose. There is a leather defect that just appeared all of a sudden and the tiny scratch on the middle of the back seating is gone. This is not my original back leather seats! The motor on my driver seat that reclines the seat is now broken.

  • God knows what else has been changed or what is missing. My hood doesn't close or lock properly and I have to play around with the lever to make it lock.

This is all after spending 3 days inside the garage in Claridge BMW. Just be aware that just because it's BMW, it doesn't mean there are no crooks that work there. Why would they be so bold to do it? They said this car was dead and probably had compression problems on the engine and will cost $7000 just to fix. Time for a Honda I said.

  • Lessons Learned:

    1. Learn about you car, so you can fix it yourself.

    2. Don't trust anyone

    3. Don't take your car for granted, once you don't have one, you gonna have to walk or take a bicycle like I did aside from borrowing my sisters or brothers car most of the time.

    4. Cars even a BMW don't last forever. Anything mechanical will eventually break down and parts get old and brittle and need to be replaced. Proper maintenance is a must! Things I didn't do for the 12 yrs I had this car.

  • My car runs great now by the way, in addition to a new air filter, oil change and I'm planning to change the water pump belt. Runs great!

I'd like to add that the air bag light comes on from time to time. I've noticed this only after the BMW visit. Never happened in the 12yrs I've had this car. Pure coincidence right? Also AC belt was shredded, the AC disc has locked. Yes, this is after the BMW visit also.

  • Air Bag light could possiby be the clock-spring needing replacement...

  • @virtute71 I know this is a year later, but I have to ask, so do you think or feel that the BMW dealer visit may have been an opportunity for the car to be a little sabotaged? I ask, because, logic tells me that well, a really well trained experienced BMW mechanic knows the car so well it can "set it up" so that you go back to them for more repairs.

Thats the cynical side of me after finding myself without a BMW shop to go to after some questionable shit.

    Thanks for your insight.

  • @wendileona

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Whether it was an experienced mechanic or not, many more things broke coming out of the dealership than when it went in. Unfortunately, I had to go abroad for several months. Coming back, I had another hectic 3-4 months and the service person I dealt with no longer works there. Just imagine that they wanted me to pay $7,000 to fix the car when a mechanic friend fixed it for $180. Learn about your car and don't trust anybody.

  • @virtute71 No problem on the late reply. Yeah absolutely true, but more so when having to with BMW's. Thats the really downside of owning them, no big deal on parts costing, etc. but its the sheer number of instances I've come across of cheats, frauds, over-repairs instances, its like an automotive culture of cheats I tell ya. One really has to become like a mechanic to an extent, you just have to learn about your BMW, you CANNOT go around ignorant about how it runs unless you're loaded. Thanks!
