  • Russian version has a wetter more fluid sound.

USA version seems to have a bit dryer signal.

Your video reminded me I received one of these as a christmas gift from my kids years ago.

Believe it or not I have never used it, this will change tonight!! Great video.

  • Russian is a bit darker, a little more filtered and has a sort of od/distortion quality to it. The USA is definitely brighter and sounds more open. Pretty much a pure "fuzz" pedal.

  • russian muff sounds scoop

  • I miss my Russian Muff. She's broken right now. ;(

  • The Russian is better for boosting something awhile the USA is more better as a stand alone pedal. I have a Russian Big Muff and to be honest, it sounds terrible just by itself.

  • @DaveElectric I would agree with that.

Also, the Russian works great as a Bass pedal.

  • Wow Russian is so much clearer and less noisy!

  • what if blended it with a metal zone pedal with the sustain down the way you had it? would that create a cross between stoner doom and death metal with detune guitars?

  • Old Russian> this current bullshit.

  • The "Triangle-Muff" will always out-shine the "Ram's-Head"... Just a better designed pedal, with better components! The "Ram's-Head" is designed to have that mid-scoop that all the metal-head's love, but that is what limits this version so much. The Russian "Triangle-Muff" is geared-up to work around that, and that's why that version is more versatile, and it just plain sounds a lot better! IMHO... If you want a REALLY-GOOD muff-tone, buy the BYOC-"Triangle-Muff" ( Large-Beaver )... it ROCKS!

  • c'mon guys dont make again a US vs Russia war for just pedals ¬¬

  • Both are awesome but Russian all the way!

  • Rssian sounds better i think

  • I see you have a Germanium OD. Thats one of my favorite pedals! What do you think?

  • I use the Russian for bass. Sounds so great.

But for guitar you can't beat USA.

  • russian is better...

    the sound is more "opened"

  • Russia лучше

  • RUSSIA FTW!

  • The Russian one smells of cabbage.

  • RUSSSSSSSSSSIA

  • COLD WAR PART II

  • The Russian one is smaller and blacker.

  • russian is better,,,

  • Thumbs up if you think that Cliff Burton thinks the Russian Muff is better.

  • @brunocejas Cliff Burton did. He only used Russian ones. didn't think American ones were muddy enough.

  • I have a vintage russian one and I gotta say. It wipes the floor of the capitalist model :D

  • you should put it up to a green muff, there would be no comparison...

  • The Russian one reminds me of Candlemass...

  • The Russian one sounds creamier and less angular, jagged.

  • @pteeng1

The difference is nothing a few teaks of the EQ can't make up for.

  • Whats that riff starting at 0:52? :)

  • pretty similar indeed.

  • Blah blah blah! Play the friggen pedal!!!!!!

  • RUSSIAN RULES SOVTEK IS BETTER

  • thump up if you think the usa pedal is better

  • Really depends on the sound you want. I want both!

  • russian big muff sounds a wee better to me ;))

  • one question: should i plug the muff into clean or driven amp?

  • @Twizzelification ROFL your funny bro

  • @Twizzelification ROFL your funny bro, might as well run the russian one into the USA also

  • Thank you so much for miking your amp. I see demo videos all the time where people use the camera mic on the other side of the room from the amp and it's impossible to tell the quality or tone of the pedal.

  • RUSSIAN VINTAGE IS BETTER

  • Mott the Hoople?

  • Russian sounds something fresh.

  • Knobs aren´t in the same positions noobs. At the same settings, Russian is way better, smoother, nice to ears

  • @chumeiperlebys

    Yeah they... eh, fuck it.

  • @chumeiperlebys Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man. Also, the fucking sound the American Big Muff makes, IMO, is so much better. It's so fucking grimy and sludgy and all that stuff you thought was bad when you were a little but then realized was fucking awesome when you got older. Like weed and sex.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green Gilmour is older than you and I man ;)

  • @chumeiperlebys Touche my man.

  • @chumeiperlebys Its all about Fuzz, if it sounds soothing and or `nice to the ears` , it aint a fuzz pedal.

  • thanks for the experiment dr.cool

  • currently bidding on the Russian, really hoping i get it.

  • I like the russian

  • does anybody know the different between black and green Russian big muff?

  • @buddude420 The Green Big Muff is much nicer, creamier than the black version.

  • rusian 4 ever!

  • Nice review! I like the russian better but I could definitely live with the usa!

  • it's beefier, cos Americans like beef eh ;p /lamecomment already have the American, might wanna buy the Russian too, just if I want something less agressive ;)

  • Little difference. USA is more beefier.

  • @SkankerxD USA! USA! USAAAA!

  • @SkankerxD JUST LIKE IN REALITY LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • to me, the russian sounds smoother, less fuzzy, and less fat, not a bad sound but just what I hear. The US obviously to me the exact opposite, a bit more aggressive, fatter, fuzzier, a bit beefier yeah. both sound nice im sure for different applications, but I also would go with the USA! overall more BIG MUFF going on!

  • i usually don't comment but I have to say i agree with the USA version is in fact a lil' more beefier, it has more of a natural tube amp over driven sound.....however it's my opinion that the russian version has a bit more of this sort of violin /awesome sustain quality going for it. i've been interested in hearing a side by side comparison....and here we have it.....thanks man....tight work!

  • Nice review! I like both!

  • Go USA!

  • MOTHER RUSSIA!!!!

  • Awesome. I know this is a bit much to ask but what were the eq settings on your amp and can you tab that riff?

  • @bagsx1980 I don't know my exact settings, but i usually run pretty much flat, and change it depending on where I'm playing. But keep in mind that this room is built to sound flat and dry, so depending on where you're playing you may have to EQ quite differently.

And as far as tabbing the riff goes, I'm not sure which one you are reffering to, and I suck a tabbing, because I don't use them. Use your ear, you should be able to get it.
