I was wandering if a Yellow Belly Slider Turtle could mate with a Mississippi Turtle. I know Yellow Belly Slider Turtles and Red Eared Slider Turtles can be bred.
Please, any one who knows a thing or two about turtles can answer. Thanks so much!
This is so good!! Any tips for me? I live in an apartment and got 2 red eared slider turtles. any advice how I can create a proper habitat for them in an aquarium? and what to feed them? they don't touch any veggies. I tried feeding them fish and they have that. What else can I feed them?
Wow! What an elaborate set-up! The turtles look very happy but I would still feel uneasy about keeping them captive. I live near the woods so now & then a large turtle makes its way onto my back deck. They look at me as if to say; "oh, and who might you be?" LOL. But instead of keeping them I carry them back into the deep woods and let them go. Like every other living creature they just want to be free...
@cips850 It is not healthy for a turtle to be flipped over. If it can't get up it will suffocate and die. If it keeps flipping over try to find out why. Turtles must remain un-flipped. Even though it can un-flip itself, it could harm it. I hope this helps a little ~Turtle Lover Icy
The rocks look a little tall n cramped at places, n it was quite a hard fall one of the turtles took.. overall i think it's a great video.. N a great place!
When the PondDigger asks him, "What have you done to your pond to protect them (The Turtles) from Predators?", I thought the Turtle Master was going to direct him towards a Guard Tower fully equipped with Gatling Guns, Flame Throwers, RPG, etc…..
@KarlaCervantes89 No; the fish are to big for the turtle to eat. both of these species here (Goldfish, koi, and Red eared sliders) are very peaceful types. They have no reason to fight; not to mention, goldfish don't have teeth. They eat the same food as well. Generally, a turtle will not eat or try to eat something that is over 3 x's the size of it's head unless it is being starved. In this situation, there is no lack of food.
Red eared sliders make great pets! I have a red foot tortoise now, and she has a terrific personality. I have an outdoor pen for her in the summer, but I could use some ideas for the long cold winter months when she has to stay inside.

@sscurlyfries76 Basically the turtle's blood matches that of his environment. He climbs on a log suns himself and hit blood temp rises. @nschario My point! a huge, massive, intricately designed pond for the most common turtle there is? Variety is the spice of life; therefore, he should ad some less common turtles.

hi there. Im feeling sorry for my turtle because he lives in a small aquarium for most his life. Im thinking of letting him go where we got him because hes from the wild. His water is shallow and one time i let him go in deep water and he just sank. I feel like he will drown. I really like him but i feel like he deserves better. I don't know if he will eat wild fish or insects but he ate my fish once. Do u have any suggestions?
@Sugarplume5 Just letting the turtle go in the wild isn't necessarily the best thing for the turtle. You might be better off finding someone who loves turtles in your community and donating it to them.
@Sugarplume5 when it gets bigger, let it go. some babies will just die. do the best to make him feel like in the wild. some animals that are kept in captivity will die in the wild because in captivity, they didnt learn how to live in the wild like feeding. turtles will feed in an aquarium and not hunt.
That guy doesn't know a whole lot about turtles. No mention of UV requirements for the turtles or the fact they need to heat up to properly digest food. Nope, he makes up a "fact" that they need to bask during the daytime so they can sleep at night. FAIL.
@codeythesilent Hey Codeythesilent, I have to stand up for Mike on this one. The truth is Mike was super nervous on film and couldn't articulate his message the way he wanted to. The fact of the matter is Mike is a genuine guy that is in love with his pond reptiles. He's forgot more about these amazing reptiles than most people would even consider learning. Peace.....
You obviously misunderstood what I said. I -said- that he made no mention of the sun's effect on the turtle as far as UV requirements (To produce vitamin D3 in order to use calcium) or aid to digestion (takes a warm turtle to digest food), but instead makes a claim that it helps the turtle "to sleep at night". Which is total BS by the way.
@codeythesilent The video is five construction tips and tricks for turtle ponds. As you well know there are piles of things you need to understand for the total care and maintenance of these amazing reptiles. Maybe you misunderstood me. I was trying to explain that Mike was simply to nervous to articulate the specific need for basking correctly because the glowing red light of the camera. Basking is critical, we know this. Point made in the video. Respectfully - Eric Triplett, The Pond Digger

i want to build a pond in my backyard at my farmhouse so should i put turtles or koi fish do they live together ...i live in india is there any problem during heavy rains or during extreme hot climate....
wow..those turtles really grow. Used to have 2 baby ones and they died a month after i got em...didnt know they grow so much. Do you know the name of the turtle...like type?
@YuyuGDL The frogs don't do well in this yard. Just too many turtles eating the tadpoles! Typically we do have tree frogs and toads that like to visit many of our ponds.
@ShinyHunterExtreme Make sure he's big enough to haul himself (or herself) out of the water and onto the designated land area. It will need places to grip and pull like rock climbing. Or a ramp.
Great video. I've read several comments with people's concerns of how the turtles might attack smaller fish. Seems as though these turtles like the path of least resistance as shown in how they hang out by the skimmer and wait for the food to come to them. I wonder if this owner has a problem with his turtles attacking fish? Maybe not. Really informative video. thanks.
@slicks105 Our winters here in Southern California a very mild so these turtles live in the pond year round like spoiled little children. They chase Mike all around the yard begging for food. He can't pull a weed without a slider at his feet! It's a real oasis for the turtles.
Hello! It's wonderful, but could you write down in English the tips shared in the video please, because I'm not a native English speaker and I cannot understand perfectly at listening. You could write it in the description of your video for example. It would be much appreciated! Thank you very much! Friendly
@NeptunianAngel make sure your skimmer is safe for turtles, screen in front..have area for turtles to lay there eggs..place for them to bask (sit in sun)..places to hide in water from predators..make sure they cant dig or climb out of your yard or pond area..
For such an expensive looking pond design, i would suggest getting a a much better type of turtle. Not looking down on sliders but just saying. . Its like a 100k pond with a $3 PET. You could place several mata mata turtles there. From the size of that place, I would also suggest some tortoises such as sulcatas.
Nope. You are stupid. For a 35 year old man, you should be soing something else rather than trolling youtube videos comments. Quit acting like a 5 year old kid and do your research.
=( wish i can have a backyard like that...

@sscurlyfries76 Basically the turtle's blood matches that of his environment. He climbs on a log suns himself and hit blood temp rises. He gets hot and he jumps back in the water and cools down lowering his blood temp to the water. In winter his blood temp drops to match the environment thus allowing him to hibernate.

@ThePondDigger My guess is for hibernating is that the turtles would dig holes and seal themselves inside then in the spring dig their way out.

Curious turtles. :3
NickyDark17 8 months ago
They wait for food near the skimmer because they're "lazy"? Um, maybe they're actualy quite intelligent.

Do you keep frogs as well? This is really nice!
YuyuGDL 8 months ago
@YuyuGDL The frogs don't do well in this yard. Just too many turtles eating the tadpoles! Typically we do have tree frogs and toads that like to visit many of our ponds.

i got a baby turtle now but it wont climb on the land do i got to worry?
ShinyHunterExtreme 8 months ago
@ShinyHunterExtreme Make sure he's big enough to haul himself (or herself) out of the water and onto the designated land area. It will need places to grip and pull like rock climbing. Or a ramp.

Great video. I've read several comments with people's concerns of how the turtles might attack smaller fish. Seems as though these turtles like the path of least resistance as shown in how they hang out by the skimmer and wait for the food to come to them. I wonder if this owner has a problem with his turtles attacking fish? Maybe not. Really informative video. thanks.

Hey, nice pond and video! Just wondering though, how do the turtles survive in winter? Do you take them out and keep them indoors?
slicks105 9 months ago

I am happily married. And since you mention it, the only thing uglier than your turtles is your women. Please keep them all in your own country.

Awesome pond! Great video!

For such an expensive looking pond design, i would suggest getting a a much better type of turtle. Not looking down on sliders but just saying. . Its like a 100k pond with a $3 PET. You could place several mata mata turtles there. From the size of that place, I would also suggest some tortoises such as sulcatas.
oneyedthing 10 months ago
@oneyedthing That's stupid. Why put smelly alien turtles who are lazy in place of good American turtles?
mrjon75 10 months ago
@mrjon75
Nope. You are stupid. For a 35 year old man, you should be soing something else rather than trolling youtube videos comments. Quit acting like a 5 year old kid and do your research.
