  • 12 meters was when sailing was americas cup

  • i like this one

  • Rather exciting though I am not a fan of cats or tris. And why is an American boat named after a German car company? Also, since we hae the cup in San Diego you race in, or around, the Pacific Ocean by San Diego. Not in Valencia or any other country. Bring back the monohull 12 meter boats. Bring back the thrill of the race. And, just race and froget the stupid red ( protest ) flags. All people on boat must be from that country -- no acceptions granted. Brig back the nationality rule.

  • @Ronclown

Fully agree on the nationality rule. Silly to allow otherwise. Countries don't sponsor boats.. they should have to supply the crews.

As to sponsorship money though, these new vessels are driven on sponsorship dollars.. so it stands to reason if BMW and Oracle are going to pony up cash and split engineering costs..their name should be on it. My bigger issue is that they allow sponsorship dollars at all. I'm torn. I love the engineering of the thing but it's out of reach of mortals.

  • Dear Mr Coutts, please dont mess the 34th edition up.. pleaaase

  • im from oracle right now and its alinghis fault that there were only two teams on this americas cup.

  • tis a shame to watch the Americas cup descend into utter lunacy. the only hope is for people to bring it back into the era when it was the strength of the deck beneath your feet and the skill of your crew that brought you victory, not endless court battles and false yacht clubs. back when the old J's ruled the sea and their grace (which is still unmatched in my opinion) made this an honorable sport.

  • Its disgusting that the americas cup has been ruined. Ohwell, stupid billionaires gotta do something right, why not ruin one of the only honorable sports left, right? Fuck you richard branson and all you other cronnies.

  • Its too bad that the America's Cup has become a competition in every area; Technology, Legal Ability and Money, but not sailing ability. I did not watch it, I did not know it was even on, and if I did I probably would not watch it. It's sad day that the American's won it back, but no one cares.

  • Growing up around Newport, RI back in the 70's and 80s, I can remember when the America's Cup almost had the prestige and spirit of the Olympic games. Whatever shred of integrity this event still has belongs to the boat designers and the sailors. Unfortunately, the billionaires and their lawyers, along with the most inept governing body in the history of competitive sports, have completely destroyed the rest of it. With respect to the sailing crews, this win is meaningless.

  • ma quanto grandi sono !!!!!

  • The reason this was a Deed of Gift match was because Alinghi accepted a Challenger of Record that was bogus - it was from a Yacht Club that was in name only - they had never raced or held a regatta - two of the things that the Challenger of Record MUST have. Alinghi forced all this BS. I agree that multi-challenger series are the way it should be. I hope Larry Ellison restores the luster of this great sailing event and eliminates all the corporate BS that drove Dennis Conner out of it.

  • Multi-challenger series are probably the most honest way to select the best challenger, but I believe in the beauty of the Deed of Gift. The most cynical about the 33rd America's Cup is the fact that they returned - more or less - to the letter of the document without paying any respect to the noble spirit it actually contains.

  • ma cioè l'anno scorso erano 10 squadre.. dove sono finiti tutti???????

  • this is the multihull class.... the monohulls are up and coming- theyre called AC90..search AC90 on google..!!

ETNZ will be in mascalzone latino

  • UMM... Pretty sure This is the multihull americas cup... and AC33 with the NEW AC90 is still to come!!! ...search ac90 in google

  • ahahahah ma che roba è, na vela che cammina praticamente, ahahah

  • I use to take time off work to watch this racing late at night, I loved it. Who's going to have best start and so on, but now I dont even want to think about it. Next time they will have motors built in, the way the things are going'. They wont need wind anymore. I remember last time NZ was in the finals my whole neighborhood was awake till late morning, waiting for the race but now I can hear them snoring.

  • Bring back the original AC with the closely matched monohulls, this is crap there wasnt even a chance for any other country to face alinghi like NZ, we would of decimated this time if we had the chance

  • è un grattacielo che naviga!

  • amricas cup aside , I love seeing this sorta shit , why dont you wining geeks just be happy to see such cool looking toys , we all love them , we all want them but these guys have got them. I agree that they need to go back to a classic format though. old 12mtr rule maybe?

  • @giavirtae yeah we might like seeing them in action but....... so many people are suffering worldwide from the economic downturn yet the filthy disgusting rich still spend hundreds of millions on toys!!! Have they got too much money??? Praps sharing it around might be a better system?

  • This kind of comment comes from ignorance about how money works. If you buy a soccer ball does somebody get paid for making a soccer ball? Do other people get paid for making bigger toys? The "sharing it around" economic systems have all failed except where incentives for self-interested accumulation of wealth promote production.

  • is it not strange that theres no world cup for yachting?

  • Well, in some classes there certainly is a world cup, for example the spectacular TP 52 class.

And the old Admiral's Cup kind of was an officious world cup...

  • It's crap the new America's Cup it has nothing to do with the crews anymore it's all about who has the best technology and the most money. We beat Oracle in the Louis Vuitton to face Alignhi and they wine and get to bye pass everyone to face Alignhi. New Zealand is still the better best sailing nation in the World and if you don't believe we name me the skippers on those two boats and where they are from.

  • The oldest sporting cup in the world has just been robbed of all its power. Some competitive sailers will now look to this as a point in history that shold not have happened. A waste of money, unmatched yachts, the courts et al. Need to have a state of origen race. Kiwis will wipe the decks with you horrible lot.

  • ah, before you put us kiwis up as some kind of saviour of AC racing, lets not forget the ridiculous earlier version of this same situation with Dennis Conner in the cat Stars and Stripes vs Michael Fay (the challenger of record) in the giant monohull NZ1 in 1988. That had all the hallmarks of this billionaire ego farce, with courtroom battles (initiated mostly by Fay both before and after the series), mismatched yachts, radical interpretations of the rules and inflated egos.

    Deja vu?

  • i really hope kiwis win the one in 2014 im in oracle but i only wannna get out of this mess : ))))

  • Congrates Orical and Alinghi sorry you guys lost the race in the court room.

The only time the Americas cup has ever been fearly raced is when it is raced for out of America.

When the ozzie won it they came up with the winged keel, and the kiwis glass gate.and Orical and Alinghi kiwi and ozzie sailor bring back mono and bloody soon.

  • thats it , officially the americas cup is bollocks. any one wishing to race me in my 12ft gaff across the bay , sponsors welcome, ill call it the NO BS New Zealand Race.

  • Amazing Oracle! I´m sure Alinghi would be lovely if not beside Oracle...very sad to see Alinghi trail like that. Oracle is a magnificant bird on the water...

  • Amazing boats! It's too bad the whole thing is clouded by litigation. Also, In the US there is little to no coverage. The AC website was put together in three weeks, it seems as if the whole event if poorly orchisrated. I was looking around the chanels searching for any coverage at all, and all I get is bass fishing...

  • Ernesto Bertarelli just had to change the cup boats, this loss serves you right !!!! Bring the cup back home BMW Oracle.

  • So this has become like the Formula 1, as in that the engineers constructing the machines become as important (if not more important) as the ones using them.

Well, that is certainly a good thing.

  • What a farce. Unbefuckinlievable!!

  • As an Aussie I feel sick watching these two cats in a piss fight over over a cup race that has lost all it meaning.

When Aust 2 took the Cup from America, we raced yachts, What is this excuse for a race . . . The America's Cup is officaily a joke and these two cats are the court jesters in in a farce.

  • they just killed Americas Cup...this is crap now. just 2 of them racing, how sad. I hope they both sink

  • @UtdMan4eva this is straight from the rule book of the Deed of Gift....

  • there is only ever 2 teams in the Americas Cup..

  • @ginashina

I know...but they fk'd up with this new design, not many can challenge them now. Louis Vuitton cup winner always challenge the cup holder, now you dont see that ether.

  • No, undoubtedly this will just be a repeat of 1988, Stars and Stripes vs NZL1.. AC will revert to a single hull race for the next defence, and LVC will resume its place as the method of determining the challenger. Both current teams will acknowledge this is not really a true AC in terms of the spirit and sport of the event.

  • Looks like Alinghi built a super yacht only to find that Oracle had built a hyper yacht! They got toasted! Awesome machines, very impressive, pity they're both arrogant $(*#%*&#@^

  • @gdw36 Ruiz de Elvira designed the last 2 Alinghis and now Oracle...Bertarellis big mistake...

  • Beauty and power.... Concordes of the sea. Absolutely STUNNING! Shame we will only see them a couple of times. Wouldnt mind water skiing behind Oracle. lol. Hope the Americans win,

  • Lets hope you yanks can get it off the smarmy european git so that the kiwi's can challenge and win the cup on the water!!!!

  • if president kenyan pigmy bho had any class he would attend the comming victory race like jfk did!...this bor-90-usa of bmw-oracle-racing is a high tech masterpiece and we should use it again 2 years from now if we win in 2010 and become the defender!...no small pissant landlocked country without a navy should hold cup for 8 years! /wisconsin

  • I would echo some of the sentiments posted here - specifically HarryMangurian. My preference would be to go back to the 12s or at least when SDYC had the cup with Dennis Conner. I think some of the nationalism is lost with the corporate aspect of today's Cup. Restrict personnel to one's own country, eliminate all corporate advertising on the boats and as syndicate name and get back to every 4 years.

  • it is a national point of honor for usa to win americas cup back! it is our patriotic duty and quest...this is a cold war vs the swiss! / wisconsin

  • thankyou for posting !!! I have been rivited obsessed waiting for this race for 3 years !...cheers! bor-90-usa...you are beyond beautiful!...its jack daniels whiskey and coke classic here to celebrate your glorious highspeed adventure and huge win today!...usa! usa! usa! usa! usa! usa!

  • I hope the victor goes back to one designs. My own preference would be to go back to the 12s and greatly tighten the specs to make the boats essentially equal. In addition, no non-citizens aboard any country's entry. All this might renew interest for a disillusioned public. Many do not even know racing has started or where it is.

  • I agree with all that you said, but I do like these two multi's, they are juat amazing machines.

  • They are amazing indeed. But some equality in equipment would have given back at least some of the prestige the America's Cup had before. They should indeed return to one design.

And I still have some problems with that wing-thing. It appears to be quite a beautiful piece of engineering that might be interesting for some record breaking boats, but I just don't think that it should be implemented in match racing.

  • @HarryMangurian : From the start of the America's Cup, the contest was of the fastest yacht design combined with sailing prowess. One design races are contests strictly of sailing merit. Let the AC remain the vanguard of yacht design. However, let there be more coverage of 12 meter races as well.

  • @HarryMangurian It looks like its going to be a one design 72ft cat for the 34th AC.

And I agree with you about the nationality rules. everything has gone to hell since that rule changed.

  • @HarryMangurian I think you might be missing the point of The America's Cup. It's not a boat race. It's a boat DESIGN competition. The America won in 1851 because it was an advanced-design boat. Imagine The Apprentice meets Robot Wars (with a little sailing mixed in.) There are already a zillion one-design races that never get attention. Why add one more and think anyone's going to care? This races is supposed to be sorta like a technology expo.

  • Wicked!!!! Thanks so much for putting this up, almost impossible to find footage on the site. Go Oracle! What a boat!

  • Those boats are going incredibly fast!

  • Great video. Too bad the AC33 website sucks and we have to revert to youtube to get any footage here in the US. And this probably won't be up for long...

  • Too bad they're both such arrogant SOBs though.

  • mr bertarelli needs a saling class big time
