nah nolan really doesn't deserve to be nominated, because i dont want to sound mean or anything but seriously, the guy made a summer blockbuster. he made a good summer blockbuster. but he made ujust that, a blockbuster that had people jumping through a dream without any emotional strands, NO THANK YOU. i mean is there anyone who gave a shit about mal and cobb's relationship? ya thats right nobody did. the movie just wraps itself in its plot way too fuking much. He is making a biopic soon.
Pure catastrophy that Chris Nolan wasn't even nominated for directing. Inception is a groundbreaking movie, and I wonder have incredibel a movie he has to do to be nominated or even win. Maybe he needs to do one with a little budget instead. It seems that it hurts your chances if you create a huge blockbuster. That's a big change because in '98 Titanic won inspite that Good Will Hunting had a better story.

@viniciusb inception wasn't all that great, but nolan is a good director and he is going to make a howard hughes biopic which i think will be his win. but ya inception was such a let down for the christopher nolan calibur. i mean i couldn't believe the same guy who made memento was making inception. sorry nolan, i love you, but u gotta get off the blockbuster bull, cause its ruining your career. go make movies like memento and presitige please
Aronofsky or Fincher. I thought Aronofsky was really good as it was kinda arty with the shots n angles he used, But Fincher's was great too and he'll most likely win.
since Nolan isn't nominated, i'd have to say Darren Aranofsky for Black Swan. It was so well shot, and the movie wouldn't have worked and Nina's psychological breakdown wouldn't have made sense because the camera was always centered on her so you never knew if it was real or not. Sadly, he most likely won't win =( Thumbs up if you want him!
I do hope that Fincher wins... I really loved Benjamin Button and I was sad when it got shut out of the Oscars in 2009, and I liked the way the The Social Network was put together and directed.
I would love to see Aronofsky winning, but I am almost certain Hooper will get it. Almost every single shot in The King's Speech was like a painting from the WW2 era. He managed to capture the social identities and conservatism of the time almost perfectly.
Fuck Nolan. He is known for directing batman films. His early work is great like memento and following. Inception Is just a slur of those three films. It was good, but not fucking great. Get over this shit. You get another batman coming out soon, so just keep your panties out of bunch till then, you fuckin wankers.
@jsauce22 inception was a major box office hit but not one that is a frontrunner at the oscars when compared to films that are made to win oscars, like the king's speech and the social network.
1. Juan José Campanella, The Secret in Their Eyes 2. Mike Leigh, Another Year 3. David Fincher, The Social Network 4. Giorgos Lanthimos, Dogtooth 5. Jacques Audiard, A Prophet 6. Jessica Hausner, Lourdes 7. David Michôd, Animal Kingdom 8. Gaspar Noé, Enter the Void 9. Maren Ade, Everyone Else 10. Claudia Llosa, The Milk of Sorrow
Darren Aronofsky's movie was the way it was because of the directing. nobody could have made the same movie. many people could have done what fincher did.
I don't want to rant, but seriously? None of those directors can even be compared to Nolan xD And, I'm not even that big of a fan. It just goes to show you that the Oscars completely ignore fan favorites and blockbusters. It seems that they don't realize the reason most of the fan favorites are so popular, is because they are actually decent films. :/
@Ineedahero94 nah nolan really doesn't deserve to be nominated, because i dont want to sound mean or anything but seriously, the guy made a summer blockbuster. he made a good summer blockbuster. but he made ujust that, a blockbuster that had people jumping through a dream without any emotional strands, NO THANK YOU. i mean is there anyone who gave a shit about mal and cobb's relationship? ya thats right nobody did. the movie just wraps itself in its plot way too fuking much.
I think Tom Hooper is going to win Best Directing for The King's Speech. The movie has won the Producers Guild, the Directors Guild, and the Actors Guild Awards. I think David Fincher should win for The Social Network, but The King's Speech has a lot more momentum of late. You can never count out the Weinsteins'.
My biggest problem with the academy awards now is that the 5 director nominees are pretty much the films that would be nominated for best picture if there were still only 5 slots. So 5 of the best picture nominees already don't have a chance at winning. I'm hoping fincher wins for the social network, but I'm begining to think the fighter might pull a upset.
@xr3verendx Well they don't show any love for George Lucas or Tim Burton. So of course to me, it's no surprise that they show no love for a great director like Chris Nolan. :(
@xr3verendx The problem with "Inception" was that it was out months ago. Given that the Academy members are known for their short term memories, the film and Nolan did not get the recognition they so deserved.
It shoulf hav been Nolan, Fincher, Boyle, Hooper n Daranofsky
