@EnJoker1 You have emotional issues, I take it? I was asking a technical questions, not challenging your hero-worship. Tedfopreident helped me, however, thanks.
Why is it that a guy of this incredible athletic talent throws 20 meters LESS than the top world-class javelin throwers? I mean specifically: what do the specialists have that even the best generalists can't develop?
Thanks. I guess that's what I'm after, although I was hoping for even more specificity. I, myself, multi-evented, and I could not conceive of throwing like the specialists. I wondered if it was because the specialized back and shoulder elasticity was actually incompatible with other events. I surely agree that the specific accuracy (thru a point +/- 1%) takes too much time for a multi-eventer to develop.
I did not make myself clear. I am trying to understand the physiology of high level sport. It is obvious that narrow specialization leads to much higher performance -- Sebrele is a great athlete yet not close to WR javelin. The question is WHY -- not on the level of "beat the crap blah blah" but for deeper reasons I am trying to get at.
@aeiou99999 the two biggest things are 1) inefficiencies in technique from: a) not being able to focus completely on the javelin because of the nine other events and b) because a decathlete must get the most out of every practice, he is forced to train multiple events and even endurance workouts all in one day. therefore, he always practices javelin while fatigued. 2) In competition, by the time he throws the jav he has already done 8 other events over 2 days which severely limits his power
Ah I don't know......I hear the announcer pronounce it "sHEH-ber-lay"...it kinda makes sense..but i guess the H is not spelled...kinda ilke Sean "shawn" lol..go figure..
and count that as a kill shot for that number..

Screw Usain Bolt and Tyson Gey! Serble, Hardee, Pappas and Clay are the kind of athletes who do a proper sport!

That is NOT even close to the World Record and the Croud is making all that noise.
Devaproductions1 2 years ago
this is in the decathlon, jan zelezny couldn't get 8676 points.
ES942 2 years ago
it isn't about the World record! he is throwing in the decathlon! of course he isn't going to break the world record
jacetrackster 1 year ago
If the croud makes all that noise just for 71.18m....I wonder how they would make noise for the World Record by Jan Zelezny (98.48m).
Devaproductions1 2 years ago
This is Decathlon, like ES942 said, meaning they compete in 10 diffrent events!
In other words, this guy is better than Jan Zelezny in 9 other diffrent events, so he can go shove his javalin up.. yeah :)

Time to learn a skill, body type, muscle type, and training specificity.
Same reasons for why a competitive national class athlete might never become elite.
So why can't the best javelin throwers compete as elite decathletes? Same reasons.

"Why is it that a guy of this incredible athletic talent throws 20 meters LESS..."
Because he could beat the crap out of the world's best javelin throwers in nine other events.

Is his last name pronounced SEH-ber-ul, or suh-BEHR-ul? Or something else entirely different?
