this game isn't that bad pros and cons pros the music is great it is fun if you turn of meteor and demo build up mode personaly is more fun 2payer is good some voice acting is good ex baby, vegito, trunks, gohan cons with out meteor and demo of it is impossible to play combos have fast reset still better than 22 missing a few charters that should be playable ex uub, baby vegeta, super baby, ss 4 goeta, omega shenron, ss 4 vegeta, normal vegeta, gotten, ss gotten, and gottenks no stage section
uh i found this game hard but fun and ultimate battle 22 is pretty fun to me lol but that was when i was in 1999 when i got them if i played them again and i still have em i would probaly go crazy

I remember owning this and UB22. I used to love this because I compared it to UB22. It was in 3D, the K-Wave looked right, you had flight controls. It sucked hard no doubt, but as a DBZ/GT game, it was epic.
The PAL version us Brits had though, was in Japanese, which at the time I never liked. I was too used to the Ocean dub Toonami showed, same again with Budokai 1, but that was years back.
This game was a piece of garbage. But damn it, it was the most entertaining piece of garbage of my life. When it came out, everybody here thought it was the shit.
haha, well i don't know about you guys, but when I owned this game I LOVED IT it's what got me into dragonball z, i honestly loved the game to death. Too bad it got stolen :\
@DragonballMegafan While I may not agree with what you say, I respect your right to say it. I don't like Final Bout for the reasons mentioned in the review, although - as I mentioned both in the review and in the video description - I find it at least playable compared to Ultimate Battle 22. In no way am I denying it's part in continuing the Dragon Ball videogame franchise in Japan (and arguably kicking it off outside Japan) but I just feel this wasn't a particularly great installment.
me and my friends would see how fast we could press the button (you know when the power battle)..we press the button until our fingers turn red lol..damn my fast pressing skill is just by playing this game.
The funny thing about this game (and Ultimate Battle 22) is that back in the late 90s, DBZ fans loved the idea of any DBZ video game. We didn't care how bad it was, we were just desperate to control Goku and the gang in a virtual realm.
But now that we have the Budokai series and Burst Limit, the price for Final Bout has plummeted (Remember when it went for $100 at Software Etc? That alone shows you that the game was more of a rare novelty than an enjoyable game) and everyone has lost interest.
@K155fan You don't actually get to "transform" in this. All the Super Saiyan characters need to be unlocked, and have their own separate places on the roster. So you can just choose whoever you want to use, once you unlock them.
I bought both this and UB22 when they appeared here in the UK about 10 years ago. UB22 disappointed me sooo much but Final Bout gave me some hours of joy...luckily though DBZ Budokai was released in the UK a year after these. I might buy them again just cause they're "rare".
lol ok fine ppl giving games a bad name came out on one of the oldest consoles on sony and then tell its bad not to mention it was one of the first console games
i actually like this alot alot more than aby of the stupid dbz that comes out on ps2, xbox, xbox 360 and ps3. dbz legends iis still better than this game though
Um...the second worst? How can that be? This is like one of the rarest and most expensive video games on the planet! The lowest price I ever saw it being sold for was $69.99, and that's more expensive than any other game I knew of at the time (2001)! If it's that rare and that expensive, then it must obviously be good!
The "meteor" combos are very much breakable. If you're an idiot, of course you'll get owned to death with it. There is a way to break out of it.
Sluggish controls? Respectfully disagree. Somewhat clumsy, however. Some of them are more of a nuisance rather than difficulty... like doing a blast and then tapping triangle a lot on your keypad.
Graphics were decent for PS1.
This review deserves 3/10, just like how he rated the game.
Final bout was the Shit! I remember have tournaments at my friends house that would last hours. But we had the imported version, because we wanted to play so bad. I know the gameplay doesn't hold up to today standards, but if they ever put it on PSN, I'll buy it in heartbeat.
Basically, this game is the FIRST worst PS1 Dragon Ball game. Broken fighting mechanics, cheap characters, unnecessary clones (SS's), pointless build up mode and overrated.
The reason why some people think Ultimate Battle 22-27 is worst only because of the graphics, NOTHING ELSE, they didn't care for how well balanced it played.
If you got this game in the 90's, you wouldn't think of it as a waste. Hell I only had the japanese version and finished arcade mode in different difficulty and received different endings. I even tinkered on the "level up mode" and I found it really fun making your character strong. Then I made it to level 120 by leveling up my attacks. If I didn't give it to my cousins before, I would still be playing it today.
I thought this was the shit when I was little. It was the only DBZ game on the market, and at that point int the mid-ninties, not even action figures were produced yet. It's weird to see how massive DBZ's become when it started out as our favorite little cult show.
The game was cool back in the day. It is garbage overall though. However, the leveling system is one of my favorites in any game. By using certain moves or combos repetitively they get stronger. It was easily abused though. I remember using a "turbo controller" to keep punching Pan over and over while i slept. She would block every attack but each one would make my punches stronger. By the morning after the fight ended I would be max level and my punches could kill anybody in 1 hit.
@Impulsekid86 "a full two minute delay between the time you input an attack combo and the time your chosen character executes it" Wow... thats a bit of an exaggeration dont you think?
@comedynitegard I respectfully disagree. I don't think its an exaggeration at all. Someone actually called me on this previously, and more than anything else, I blame the severe button lag on the developers for rushing the game out the door. Thats just me, though.
@ImpulseKid86 Well i own the game and I do agree that there is some lag from when you input an attack combo and when your character executes it, but it's not a full two minutes
Ha! Moja pierwsza gra o DB! A najlepsze jest to, że tylko w tej grze można grać Trunks'em z DB GT na prawdę w innych grach jego nie ma :( Jeszcze pamiętam jak pierwszy raz pokonałem Baby Vegete i całą grę :) To było coś.
well the game is ancient i played it back when i was a kid super baby would ALWAYS kill me i still have it an play it from time to time BUT with the super sayajin characters yea its alot of them on there but its GT not Z GT everyone was super sayajin besides pan and hercule lol
i remember going to my cousins when i was pretty young to play this game, it was the first time i realized there were ssj3's and ssj4's and this was during the android saga, it blew my mind
The technology in the game isn't on 2010 quality levels... because it was made for PS1 in the 90s. You probably wouldn't have been able to do better then.
This game was only good when ps1 was still huge, i had the luck of actually owning this game with a converted (starland ftw) PS1 before the 90s came to a close so it was the only time i really had loads of friends wanting to play it seeing how at the time the farthest america got into dragon ball z was right at the gynu fights (toonami and that akward transition in voice changes) so as a fan at the age 9-12 at that time seeing a "super saiyin" when there were none on tv was quite an WOW
@uspm4a1 TL;DR this game was only good for the inital time of relase, by the time it was released in america it was too late for it to be enjoyable at all
Do you mean Battle Toshin Arena??? Did the old guy have claws and have a weird laugh?.....Big claws and a ponytail? Was there a Ryu wannabe that used a sword and, said "No problem", and did it have a hot chick with a whip? Was there a bratty green haired schoolgirl that says, "I never give up"? Check it out then...on Youtube.
this game is awsome and I played it because its one of those games that can pass the time when it was on my shelf lke burst limit and ultimate battle 22
Hey, pretty good review. I shamefully played this game alot as a kid because of not only the GT logo... but the background music. Although it sucked, I selected SSJ4 Goku JUST to listen to his song. All in all, short and sweet review
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah, this game was horrible. I tolerated it at the time because it was the only dragon ball game I knew I would ever get my hands on. It did help to pass the time.. buildup mode at least. As bad as the graphics looked today I did enjoy how Majin Buu looked, the others weren't as impressive as him. Piccolo was my favorite to play with but he didn't look as well done :\. It is sad they filled up all those spots with goku clones when they could have had guys like Tien or Yamcha and more.
I dont like the extra Super Saiyan character because, as I mentioned in the review, I feel they are unnecessary. I don't mind, say, one or two Super Saiyans, but when they compose a good 90% of the roster, I dont think that's a good sign. I think the developers could've easily used some more GT-specific characters, had they put more time into the game.
I'm not sure which game you speak of, but to answer your question about my Final Bout review, I say "good luck with that" because I honestly cant picture more than one person playing this game at a time. I've tried to get friends to play this in the past, and they've always passed on it. Looking back on it, I think it's quite the wise move on their part, but thats just me.
Yes indeed. Dragon Ball games in Japan date as far back as 1986 (with games specifically based on Z starting in about 1989-90, I beleive), while Tekken didn't come into existence until around 1994.
@ImpulseKid86 heh heheh tekken.... anyway... DBZ final bout was a very well done game for the PS1 at least. you were right the controls are a bit sluggish but this provided feed back for the more popular games as budokai and others. this DBZ Gt game was a foundation for others to come. i think of this game as merly a beta version of budokai and was rushed to the point to sell only for the fans and was not finished to the fullest extent and was rushed. we would see bandai's full skils later in 02
I personally just didnt like UB22. Much like FB, the controls felt slow and sluggish. I also felt the graphics were worse than FB (the 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds that are primitive by even the PS1's standards just clashed badly).and didnt find the gameplay to be any real fun at all. Not to mention, the PAL version was translated BEYOND poorly (Example, Ginyu was called "Genius"). The only real high point about UB22, IMO, was the music. Besides that, I think its better as a collectors item.
Like I said in this review, I thought FB was just slightly better than UB22, but that's not saying much. If you like it, thats fine, each to their own :)
The North American release used an in-house voice cast hired by Bandai, thus why the voices sound so very different than the Funimation cast. Steve Blum apparently provided Goku's voice in the US version of this game.
Well you must of sucked at the game. You can get out of Meteor Attacks & Baby Isn't that hard. Also you didn't even talk about the Special Attacks how you can counter them & challenge there power.
Gogeta isnt unlockable in this game. I tried back in the day and actually managed to beat the game 20 times on hard, only to get nothing for all my hours of hard work :(
1. Yes, I am aware that you can get out of Meteor smashes, and was attempting to do so various times throughout the fight, only to be hindered by the shitty controls.
2. Baby CAN be damn hard when considering how insanely damaging his attacks can be. As far as final bosses go, I cant remember the last time a boss took me out in approximately in one or two shots
3. I didnt talking about counter-attacks, because I didnt feel they were worth mentioning.
i give tis game -999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999/999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999
Final Bout was a great experience on the PS1 for fans who didn't import the other titles. The combat in the game was really simple and dull if you didn't give it time. It was fun once you learned how to perform the meteor smash or a ki blast power struggle.
The meteor smashes the computer put you in is something you can easily get out of or counter with your own endless meteor smash (or just end it dramatically with a ki blast).
I'm not saying it's amazing but it's definitely fun.
Honestly, I expected something that could actually be played, instead of a poorly-made piece of shit. I honestly think that as far as PS1 games go, there have been far better games and the old saying "you cant polish a turd" applies perfectly to this.
Whoa! You're wrong. Atari has just out played their role with the games. The games for the PS2 aren't that great. I prefer the older ones. The new ones are just enhanced with glory. The one game that is still considered the best DBZ game is Hyper Dimension and anyone that says that's wrong is a failure at being a DB fan. Hyper Dimension had the best graphics for it's time and better than most games after.
You did a horrible review. I'm sorry to say that, but you must just suck at the game if you have those ratings for it. I have no problems with the controls at all. I can execute moves super quick. Just because you found the game difficult doesn't mean it's bad. A true DB/Z/GT fan would look past all that and not give a shit. Of course they're going to have a lot of SS...DUH...It's GT Final bout. Each one has slightly different moves.
Cant expect everyone to agree with what I'm doing, lol :) I respect your opinion, and If you can play it so well, then kudos to you. I'd like to kindly point out though that my problem with the controls was not because I thought they difficult, its that they genuinely were difficult. No fighting game should lag as much as this between the input of a button sequence and the execution of an attack. Again, I repsect your opinion, but I'm inclinded to agree with Strawberry1o2.
You GOTTA do a re-make of this video saiying that in your opinion Ultimate Battle 22 is the second worst, and Final Bout the third.
Ultimate Tenkaichi is always. ALWAYS. first.
But hey, the video was uploaded on 2008!

gotdeem1988 1 year ago
This game was only good when ps1 was still huge, i had the luck of actually owning this game with a converted (starland ftw) PS1 before the 90s came to a close so it was the only time i really had loads of friends wanting to play it seeing how at the time the farthest america got into dragon ball z was right at the gynu fights (toonami and that akward transition in voice changes) so as a fan at the age 9-12 at that time seeing a "super saiyin" when there were none on tv was quite an WOW
uspm4a1 1 year ago
@uspm4a1 TL;DR this game was only good for the inital time of relase, by the time it was released in america it was too late for it to be enjoyable at all

Do you mean Battle Toshin Arena??? Did the old guy have claws and have a weird laugh?.....Big claws and a ponytail? Was there a Ryu wannabe that used a sword and, said "No problem", and did it have a hot chick with a whip? Was there a bratty green haired schoolgirl that says, "I never give up"? Check it out then...on Youtube.

Hey, pretty good review. I shamefully played this game alot as a kid because of not only the GT logo... but the background music. Although it sucked, I selected SSJ4 Goku JUST to listen to his song. All in all, short and sweet review

It is sad they filled up all those spots with goku clones when they could have had guys like Tien or Yamcha and more.
roningarrison 2 years ago
I dont like the extra Super Saiyan character because, as I mentioned in the review, I feel they are unnecessary. I don't mind, say, one or two Super Saiyans, but when they compose a good 90% of the roster, I dont think that's a good sign. I think the developers could've easily used some more GT-specific characters, had they put more time into the game.

Jermaine0061 1 year ago
I'm not sure which game you speak of, but to answer your question about my Final Bout review, I say "good luck with that" because I honestly cant picture more than one person playing this game at a time. I've tried to get friends to play this in the past, and they've always passed on it. Looking back on it, I think it's quite the wise move on their part, but thats just me.

method190 2 years ago
I have no idea why I got minused but anyway were those games before tekken
method190 2 years ago
Yes indeed. Dragon Ball games in Japan date as far back as 1986 (with games specifically based on Z starting in about 1989-90, I beleive), while Tekken didn't come into existence until around 1994.
ImpulseKid86 2 years ago
@ImpulseKid86 heh heheh tekken.... anyway... DBZ final bout was a very well done game for the PS1 at least. you were right the controls are a bit sluggish but this provided feed back for the more popular games as budokai and others. this DBZ Gt game was a foundation for others to come. i think of this game as merly a beta version of budokai and was rushed to the point to sell only for the fans and was not finished to the fullest extent and was rushed. we would see bandai's full skils later in 02

How is Ultimate Battle 22 worse than this?
ReneO93 2 years ago
I personally just didnt like UB22. Much like FB, the controls felt slow and sluggish. I also felt the graphics were worse than FB (the 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds that are primitive by even the PS1's standards just clashed badly).and didnt find the gameplay to be any real fun at all. Not to mention, the PAL version was translated BEYOND poorly (Example, Ginyu was called "Genius"). The only real high point about UB22, IMO, was the music. Besides that, I think its better as a collectors item.
ImpulseKid86 2 years ago
Like I said in this review, I thought FB was just slightly better than UB22, but that's not saying much. If you like it, thats fine, each to their own :)

I had the Bandai America version. Believe it or not they improved it a bit graphically compared to the Japanese version.
I never got to play the Atari reissue. I heard the Atari version had the dialog re-recorded by the FUNImation cast. Is it true?
JRock424 2 years ago
Can't say for sure, but I believe the Atari version was a straight-up re-release of the Bandai America one.
ImpulseKid86 2 years ago
1:21 sounds like dbgt abridged..o.0 wtf
dbzcolton10 2 years ago
The North American release used an in-house voice cast hired by Bandai, thus why the voices sound so very different than the Funimation cast. Steve Blum apparently provided Goku's voice in the US version of this game.

gingerdots 2 years ago 2
Gogeta isnt unlockable in this game. I tried back in the day and actually managed to beat the game 20 times on hard, only to get nothing for all my hours of hard work :(
ImpulseKid86 2 years ago
3. I didnt talking about counter-attacks, because I didnt feel they were worth mentioning.

cavanation 2 years ago 2
Final Bout was a great experience on the PS1 for fans who didn't import the other titles. The combat in the game was really simple and dull if you didn't give it time. It was fun once you learned how to perform the meteor smash or a ki blast power struggle.
The meteor smashes the computer put you in is something you can easily get out of or counter with your own endless meteor smash (or just end it dramatically with a ki blast).
I'm not saying it's amazing but it's definitely fun.

what do you expect from a p21 game
gary8191996 2 years ago
Honestly, I expected something that could actually be played, instead of a poorly-made piece of shit. I honestly think that as far as PS1 games go, there have been far better games and the old saying "you cant polish a turd" applies perfectly to this.
ImpulseKid86 2 years ago
i love DBZ but you're right, this game is shit, i'm talking about the combo, once you get the enemy hitted by combo, you'll win
VisionOfMariahCarey 2 years ago
I am a fan of DBZ and even I thought this gamne was horse shit. DBZ games didn't get good until Atari got the license,
strawberry1o2 2 years ago
BrutalFatality13 2 years ago
You did a horrible review. I'm sorry to say that, but you must just suck at the game if you have those ratings for it. I have no problems with the controls at all. I can execute moves super quick. Just because you found the game difficult doesn't mean it's bad. A true DB/Z/GT fan would look past all that and not give a shit. Of course they're going to have a lot of SS...DUH...It's GT Final bout. Each one has slightly different moves.
BrutalFatality13 2 years ago
Cant expect everyone to agree with what I'm doing, lol :) I respect your opinion, and If you can play it so well, then kudos to you. I'd like to kindly point out though that my problem with the controls was not because I thought they difficult, its that they genuinely were difficult. No fighting game should lag as much as this between the input of a button sequence and the execution of an attack. Again, I repsect your opinion, but I'm inclinded to agree with Strawberry1o2.
