Maybe pain and punishment caused religion? Just an idea. It seems to cause in us a desire to sacrifice to a higher power. It's an observation, little more than that. I must respectfully disagree. We all put labels on ourselves everyday. Labels are one of the main things about all cultures that is pretty well universal. You put labels on yourself. I've labeled myself in various ways. We label ourselves as a certain gender, with a certain sexuality, with a certain ethnicity, with a certain race, with a certain country, with a certain religion(s), ect. is there two types of pagan cause the european version has thor god of thunder and the greek version has zeus god of the thunder

I have a question; wat of the two is most evil? A belief system where ppl strive to be coexisting with not only life and the earth, but also other ppl as well, or a belief system that blindly follows a selfish, jealous, tyrant of a god who gives ppl a choice of either following him or be persecuted and die? I never saw no baby come from no guy's as, so how can life come from a male god?

@Kan2209 well if we didn't live off the land pre supermarkets then what did we do? maybe I am romanticising but people are going to do die regardless we still have disease and yes there are ways to help it which technically medicines are based from plants so we still have to be greatful for it in todays society! and at least in those time people wern't greedy and blowing up buildings and who knows what else

@boredoutofmynut They were more greedy and burning more buildings and people than... well, than anything. There was brutal killing and murder, rape everywhere, and life was pretty much shit all the time. When you see modern crime, it is a small fraction of how brutal the world was back then. Europeans as well as other pagans sacrificed children to gods for example. I thikn you really need to rethink this, and I mean that in a friendly way. This is the golden age of humanity.

@Kan2209 Kan, please do tell me where you get your information? The Celtic Pagans didn't practice blood sacrifice, not saying it didn't happen in the world. In fact if you want to talk about brutal religions, the Catholic Church has been the most brutal, killing more people in less time then many religions.

How was the crimefighting ability in Jesus' times, or before that? Life was a horrid struggle, and only pleasant for those who had slaves, or servants. The catholics killed a lot of people, and so did pagans, whats your point? Life was ok because the catholics killed more people? That makes no sense.

@Kan2209 LMAO I don't need to re-think anything I am very happy in believing what I do, do you think the catholic or christian church is better today it's more fucked up then ever because all people want is power and if you look at it closely there are a lot of similarities that came from Pagans such as the yule log at christmas and easter. I believe in living off the land and following the seasons people these days believe in cutting down most of the rainforest at our own detriment

@boredoutofmynut Being happy in once belief has absolutely no value on it's truth, an adult should know that, that should be a prerequisit to adulthood. People these days are exactly the same as they were before, the only difference is that people today have technology etc, you suffer from a thing called "golden age syndrome", it's quite known, apparently not to you. The pagans, especially the celtics wore gold and showed off their wealth, they had tribal wars eat away their youth etc. Study.
