Since I'm both Canadian and white I don't have as much interaction with African-American culture, and it wasn't until watching this video I didn't take different cultures into account. Is there a feeling of intimidation stronger over the African American culture to be religious than there is for the general people of N. America?
in bible god supposed to have killed a million ethiopians just for being black. xtians are raped as kids and brainwashed in church to believe stupid fith like this. i mean hundreds came alive same time as jesus wer seen in a city. in mathew 27;51 yet biggest news in bible or the world yet no1 knows. wer are they now these corpses you cnt die twice
and further more the word religion comes from a Greek word which means Religio means to hold and bind and keep back, and when you look at the way people in the churches are acting they not only idiots but they a bunch of fake people, they raise hell all week, they party and go to clubs, they have sex out of marriage, most are gays,i can make a long list.then you have those no good rappers, and those women making stupid songs, then they say they thank god for they rewards, and its not of god,its Satan.
yeah i agree them people in churches are a bunch idiots you never gonna win with them cause they a bunch of damn losers.you speaking logic.i am not gonna say they is no god because man did not create the elements like the sun etc.but i do hear were you coming from.i do agree with talking animals, now that is hard to believe,LOL,but religion was man made anyway, god has nothing too do with religion.black people are so dumb they easy to be manipulated.smh. they remain in ignorance.
another brainwashed christian, that girl you were dating. damn she said she would date a murderer before an atheist. wooooo weeeeeee !!! i call that mad church disease.
Thanks for doing this video dude. I'm a black atheist from Texas (of all places for an atheist to live) & you inspired me to come out of the closet. You're a real inspiration man. Peace.

I think thatas a black person, being an atheist is the hardest thing to follow because religious blacks probably would hate a black atheist more than a racist biggot. My hats off to black atheist everywhere! You are not alone.
Good for you, John! It's so weird to grow up completely surrounded by believers who think that blind faith is a virtue. But we're are not alone. Good to meet you, man. Hope to see you soon!
I think the reason most believers want to keep believing is not because they think they're going to heaven. It's that they don't want to believe that there is no hell for "bad people" to go to.
@TbearDAkang Praying (or talking to yourself) is part of the delusion that JohnBeezy spoke about if you watched his video. Telling him you're going to pray for his soul (which there is no evidence for either) just makes you look like the typical delusional christian who talks to themselves and hears imaginary voices in their head.
And I know where you are coming from Christians today are very hypocritical, and many should not be called Christians. But if you look past all the fake pastors and money hungry churches you would know there is a God. I even encourage Christians to challenge what you are being taught in church and get into your Word (Bible). This argument is way to big and ways to many points to get across but at the end of the day I know that Christ dies for my sins. God bless
While I do believe in God, the only thing I agree with on this video is that people should question their beliefs. And the same goes for atheist. I don't understand how people can not just take a second and look around and realize that this world is not ours and everything we have is a gift.
The situation is even worse in the Caribbean than in America, since--speaking very generally--the education systems in many of the islands are either poor or too expensive for many to afford. Either way, religion for the Caribbean is pretty much a given, and when you speak against it, you run the risk of being ostracized or even--what scares me--being physically attacked, since people often know or can find out where people live....But we have to speak out. I believe we'll see progress soon....
Oh my God. Seriously bro, we already know about these Colonial-caucasians who don't believe in any deity; Oddly enough, faith is what kept your ass from being hung from a tree. To believe there isn't any type of spiritual awakening that's kept us able to keep our mental state, strong and resilient!
@Sileni Oh, really? That's a lot coming from a guy who kisses up to an invisible fairy in the sky because you believe he can grant your wishes and then send you to some idyllic paradise where you have to spend an eternity...kissing up to him even more.
@Iceprince1989 Abusive ad hominem is all the Atheist (pin head like yourself) is capable of conjuring up towards others; Also...Who mentioned anything about Christianity, idyllic paradise and invisible fairies'. Man your a bufoon, addressing my comments towards JohnBreezy3 NOT you!
Faith is real it doesn't have to be translated into words...
@Sileni No, abusive ad hominen is of a person in their early 20's can produce. I have not yet reached the level of eloquence that Christopher Hitchens had. Also, I saw your original comment lacking intelligence or respect and I countered you with the same. Faith actually does have an analogy, the scene from Conan The Barbarian, where James Earl Jones' character convinces one of his followers to walk off of a ledge, which she does without protest or question. That sums it up perfectly.
@Iceprince1989 blah, blah, blah you seem to have forgotten I no longer care anymore but keep on "continuing" with your replies. No longer bothering to continue addressing you!
@Sileni Continued, and I'M the pin head for negatively reacting to. "Without faith your ass would be hanging from a tree"? Judging by the level of utter and complete stupidity and vitriol of your comment to John, I actually reacted in great restraint in contrast to that spill of literary diarrhea.
@Iceprince1989 No one was even speaking to you to begin with. You ARE a pin head plain and simple christopher Hitchens wannabe. It really doesn't matter to me whatever else your comments will be about.
I'm still waiting on Johnbreezy to reply back. ...Finished with you.
@Sileni Continued, and I'M the pin head for negatively reacting to "Without faith your ass would be hanging from a tree."? Judging by the abject stupidity and vitriol of your comment to John, my reaction was quite measured and restrained in contrast to your spill of literary diarrhea.
Isn't it sad that you have to lay it down in these plain terms, yet people still try to fight it? The only way to believe in God is to believe yourself to only be a pile of shit without God. I used to be a Christian, and I'm glad I don't believe I'm a pile of shit anymore.
Watched your video after reading the article today in the NYTimes. I am Black, and at least an agnostic, if not an outright atheist. Love your comment "Does god play fantasy football?" Such unassailable yet simple logic. And yet, unfortunately, many Christians, especially Black ones, will not even pay attention to your reasoning skills but to simply the emotions of the situation. We need emotion too, but for "our people" our emotions have become an impediment for self-improvement.
I also read about this in the Times. I really appreciate your intellectualism and interest in outlining your views without attacking others. Great job with this! I hope you post more on this topic.
Black American teen here, raised Christian... my story's really no different from any other person with that profile. I don't know where I fall of the spectrum of atheist to christian.
But I have a hard time saying I'm an atheist because all the atheist I know seem to be SO SURE that there isn't a God, just like the Christians who are so sure that there is a God...
@endeerayneee I felt the same way about the term "atheist," which is why I didn't call myself one when I stopped being a Christian. The truth is, no one can fully know whether there is a God or not. To be a Christian, you claim that you know 100% that God exists. As an atheist, you can claim a degree of certainty. Even Richard Dawkins says that he can never be 100% sure that God doesn't exist. We lack a belief in God. We don't outright deny the miniscule possibility.
im white and my flat mate is a black devout christian , we've had many debates over religion and he never gets offended when i tell him he's wasting his time.. i just find it baffling why so many black people follow an organisation that repressed them for centuries .. to be honest , black atheists should out number white atheists for obvious reasons.
Very brilliant! However, you might be slightly over-simplifying the situation. While it's true that blacks tend to follow religion/christianity more than whites (since the times of harsh slavery), that's the whole point! People, especially poor people in times of hardship, need religion to cling to to give them hope. It actually does make some sense. I believe that's why the bible belt of the United States is largely contained within the Old South (continued)..
That is, wide-spread christianity must have spread through the deep south (black and white) because of hardship resulting from the devastation of the civil war (my guess). It has been such an entrenched part of the southern culture ever since. That's why all the televangelists you hear possess southern accents. If you're living in agony or are living a poverty-stricken life, why not have hopes for a future life that will be good to you? (continued)...
All social scientists would have to do to test the validity of my theory is to divide affiliation to christianity along income levels. I'll guarantee you it would be revealed that there would be a highly disproportionate percentage of the poverty-stricken population that is christian versus the comfortable, high-income levels.
@vancouvermild your quite right , its why most deathrow innmates in America convert to christianity , out of hope and desperation i guess, but here in England , poverty isnt as widespread , therefore most folk take religion with a pinch of salt, its why we have Charles Darwin on the back of a £10 note , whereas as America has a ' in god we trust ' on bank notes, and presidents spouting ' god bless the united states ' tis hardly surprising America is so religiously hardcore, cheers.
Exactly correct - however, I'll add to that. The early American frontier was populated with not only people living a roughing-it-style of life (compared to England), but many of them might have also been fleeing religious persecution. Add to that the fact that Europe (and Canada, for that matter) always had either a royal hiercharchy and/or a government to help take care of them and their needs (more so than the United States, any way) - (continued)
(continued from last post)...This is the formula for widespread religion (if not religious fanaticism?). Personally, I think people are looking for some sort of "higher" guidance in their life (not ALL people, of course!). Traditionally, in Europe/Canada, that meant royal hiearchy and/or governement. In the United States, that translated to God - after all, they rejected the concept of BIG government and most certainly rejected the concept of royalty - (Continued)...
Post 3 of 3 (continued from last post). If you combine the early American rejection of big government and royalty, the common need for a higher guiding power, the proportion of the population fleeing religious persecution, more wide-spread poverty, the devatation of the civil war (which helped create the Bible Belt - I think?), that explains the religious nature of American culture today! I think the religious component will shrink (not disappear) given education and time.
I'll add a few more points - some of which you might try out on your flat mate? First of all, I think the American culture of "God" and devotion to christianity largely arose out of the early American frontier's common desire for a higher power. The concept of God filled that void and became an entrenched part of American culture that persists even today. Insofar as your flat mate is concerned, I don't know whether his recent roots are African or Carribbean? (continued)...
(continued from last post). It doesn't really matter exactly what his roots are. The fact is, whereever Europeans colonized in a major way, they brought christianity with them. Since the blacks that have been subjected to this colonization were thoroughly introduced to christianity, it became entrenched into their culture - moreso then the colonizing Europeans since, after all, they were repressed and looking for hope. (Continued)
(Continued from last post...) Post 3 of 3...It could well be that your flat mate and/or his family is rich and even well educated - but that doesn't matter. He still came out of a highly religiously entrenched culture. If he is rich (or his family), it's too late, in his case. Entreched culture is too over-whelming for some people. It might take generations and higher education before religion/christianity stops being such an entrenched part of black culture worldwide.
@vancouvermild the strange thing is , he said religion and science can work together but when i began to talk about human evolution , neanderthals etc, he asked what a neanderthal was , i was flabbergasted , he actually didnt know what one was , so from an early age i can only assume he's been shielded from human evolution and real science..so when he says religion and science can work together , he means religion and pseudoscience , i gave up debating with him after that.
Thanks for speaking out John. I have wondered why so many black Americans believe in the Christian god considering what the Bible has to say about slavery: Leviticus 25:44-45; Ephesians 6:5; Leviticus 25:44-46; Exodus 21:20-21; and considering that as slaves, Africans were taught about Christianity by their white “owners.” I imagine they may not have had a choice in the beginning and just took on the Christian religion as their own in order to placate the slave owners.
Well Seems To Me That You Are A Little Bitter About The Young Lady You Were Dating. And You Dont Like To Know That If You Do Something Wrong, There Is A Consequence For It(Biblically). But I Can't For It Down Your Throat, No... But What I Can Do Is PRAY That You Have A Good Life W/O God... Whatever "Good" To You Is?!
Im a teenage African-American Athiest and this video was very inspirational, I go to this very tight spaced black school that are mostly religious and it greatly annoys me because Im basically the only Athiest in a crowd full of "God loving Christians"....I'm basically a "fish surrounded by sharks"....and my parents and Grandma are very religious as well and I love them, but I just cant help my own thoughts and opinions about religon...and I dont want to hurt them.
@Amezz55 I'm an atheist. Now I wanna convert to your religion since you're threatening me & nonbelievers with Hell. That's very Christian of you. I'm sure your god's very proud. Dumbass...
@TheGhghghhjhjhj I'm an intelligent atheist who happens to be black. So do me a favor and swallow all the pills in your cabinet you closeminded, ignorant, piece of shit.
why shouldnt black people be slaves they havent proved that there good for anything else dont even talk about obama becouse im blacker than him and im white there is no such thing as a fully black guy being smarter than a white guy
Read the most recent replies to this video and you'll understand why devotion to christianity/religion is such an entrenched part of black culture today - worldwide! I've posted about 9 or 10 replies. I'm not sure exactly how many - I've lost track. However, it will probably open your eyes!
Christianity within the black community is a great display of ignorance, if you ask me. The very religion that once justified slavery and extreme racial prejudice against blacks (and often STILL does) is essentially being held up by the people it oppresses. Anyone who is white has all the reason in the world already to tell Christianity to go blow itself with or without the racial prejudice, but the black community should not hesitate for a moment to swiftly give that religion the bird.
o yea the #1 rule in the bible is to believe that santan doesnt exist but hey well find out wont we imma just put it like this i rather die to and find out there is no god then to die and find out there is one and hey well lets just say if there is 1 then u got sum splaining to do lucy!!!!
ok so i guess the universe just formed these perfect being wit eyes to see mouths to talk noses to smell ears to hear ayo if u think that is possible then ur way of thinking sucks how can u say no greater being designed us man is the ultimate being i guess he gave us free will so idiots like u can come up with these dumbass thinking methods and then say sum dumbshit like ur saying in ur video and outta all things u as a black man say this old negro spirtuals are what got our ancestors thru slave
lolz, african-american atheists have it easy. You should see what would happen if I publicly said in some parts of Mali (my home country) that i didn't believe in god. I'd probably be dead by the end of the day.
@SalTheUltimate and @TheMaxmillionz, JohnBeezy has shown far more intelligence, respect, and common sense that both of you put together. I'm proud to say that he represents my views far more than either of you two ever will. If I was a religious person, I'd tell you both that you were going to hell. Your so-called "word of god" leads me to believe that both of you will be sitting in your "so-called hell." "Hot dogs, polish sausages, and Oscar Meyer Wieners" may be both of your favorite foods
@MonsieurMercredi Appreciate the comment. Unfortunately a good amount of comments I get from Christians are just like theirs. That is the main reason why I stopped making videos.
John! Don't ever give up on what you're learning or what you're teaching others. some people only making negative comments, based on their limited thinking or thoughts. You see, that's what beliefs do to people,is that, it traps or conforms their mentalities. In other words,it imprisoned the minds of those who has fears, and will soon developed into a depression, and start building their faiths on medications
because they were,or either taught on fears. And all they're getting,is faith & no action
@TheMaxmillionz if we want to answer this question and say it must be an complex deity, than we have to ask who created this complex being? Now i know that you think that god gets a free pass here, after all he is all powerfull, all knowing and all present. No explanations here, we only have an anthropomorphic concept. You know like a god with human like attributs, its often a male god, he has long hair and basically is like a human but he is perfect and has no faults or deficiencies
@SalTheUltimate and @TheMaxmillionz, you two are great examples of why Christianity exists. It exists to control an entire society without the use of physical force. If you two are Christians, you both show that religion is for bigoted, ignorant, insecure people. People like you are so pitiful that you're both afraid to take responsibility for your own actions. When you call people names, you blame it on Satan. You compliment God when something positive occurs in your lives.
@TheMaxmillionz by that logic, something (god) had to come from something else. which was..? also, stop using hell as a scare tactic to try and get people to believe in your particular religion. that just shows you were brainwashed by the same method. saddens me, really.
@simidez805 What??? come out of the closet ha, America is fucked up seriously you dont believe in a god whoop-dee-doo get on with your life and live it, it does'nt matter if you dont believe in god just believe in yourself and live a good life..Peace...oh and i'm not directing this at you i;m just using what you said.
@simidez805 we need some kind of secret handshake, or a pink unicorn pin, so we can recognize each other. Could be surprising! As it is, there's no easy way to ask someone in the Black community if they are real true believers--in a way that they'll feel safe saying 'no'.
Brother, keep doing what you're doing. I salute any fellow atheist, even more so when I see my minority brothers waking up from forced fed indoctrination. I can tell you first hand that Christianity is the bane of the black communities existence along with widespread embracing of emotionalism. KEEP IT UP, you have my full support. It may even be a great idea to have a USTREAM channel with a few of us discussing atheism and how we can further inform black communities.
@MastaMattv2, White and Black skin is just an insignificant shell. What matters is what's inside the shell. We're all capable of the very same things. I just got done watching a White Congolese male dance his behind off. He is amazing: "Blanc qui danse solo Dombolo", and "ko yimbi ko de blancs" and ." In french it means White that does a solo dance called Dombolo. just copy and paste in the Yoube search, and he will amaze you.
@Black Atheism, my mistake... you have the right to criticize them, but they also have the right to ignore your criticisms and continue to do the very thing that you dislike. The world is big enough for all of us. Don't you think? I don't want to live in a world where everyone is a carbon copy of me. It would be boring.
@MonsieurMercredi So let me get this straight. You are essentially saying that you should never criticize someone's beliefs no matter how ridiculous they are?
@JohnBeezy3, you like to argue. People can live their own lives. I have a life that needs living, and I'll spend my time living my life, and I'll leave it up to others to live their own lives; however, I do comment from time to time if I feel that people are trying to dictate how others should think or live their lives, just as I did in your case. I don't want to debate it though. I've submitted my comments, and you seem to disagree with me, and I'm ok with that. You have the right to do so
@MonsieurMercredi I actually don't like to argue. You must be used to making statements and no one challenging them. That isn't going to fly here.
To say or insinuate that people should let irrational beliefs slide is ridiculous. Irrational beliefs not only affect me but it affects other demographics, such as gays, on a daily basis. I cannot believe you don't see this. If people kept religion to themselves, I wouldn't need to let them know how silly their beliefs are.
@JohnBeezy3, I can debate with the best of them; however, now, I'm much older and wiser. Where did debating get my paternal great grandmother and her people, the Crow Nation? Where did challenge the slave owners get my other paternal Black great grandmother that was born a slave? Where did it get my maternal great great grandfather, the nephew and slave to this White uncle, Dr. Warrick Miller of Kentucky. Where did it get his wife, after slavery, my great great grandmother, a Jewish female?
@JohnBeezy3, there has been many injustices in this world, but the strong refuse to feel any compassion for the weak. "Blacks like me and you are weak. Native Americans are weak; this includes most Latinos south of the border, and homosexuals are weak." I don't say this to insult anyone. I say this to speak the truth. The dominant culture has never shown any compassion to the weak among them; debating falls upon deaf ears. I've learned not to waste my time.
@JohnBeezy3, [conclusion] I do my part to respect others, regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, or ethnicity, and I leave it up to others to treat people the way that they will... and believe me... they will treat others the way that they choose to treat them. And... there's nothing that you or I or anyone else can do about it. Debating, just like marching, is a waste of time and effort. Unless the dominant culture wants to change, things will remain the same.
@JohnBreezy3, I apologize for not being more clear. I don't mean that all minorities are generally weak. What I meant to say is that we are weak when matched against a larger group that has the weapons, money and power; the dominant group doesn't care what the weaker group likes or wants; history has proven this, so your debates are just words; words have never conquered any civilization. Christianity was forced upon minorities with guns, whips, and ropes--it wasn't freely embraced by them.
If we place our faith in Jesus Christ our Lord, trusting His death on the cross to pay for our sins, we will be forgiven and receive the promise of eternal life in heaven. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that anyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9).
Just as Christians don't have the right to think for me and you, we don't have the right to tell Christians that they are flawed in their thinking. It's insulting. I'm not an Atheist! I'm a "Free-Thinker!" I don't believe in seas parting for a man; I don't believe in a woman giving birth as a virgin; I don't believe in heaven or hell; I don't believe in pretending to fit into a group--Christianity. But, I have no right to make fun of or insult people that do believe in gods.
@MonsieurMercredi Sure. Let's not criticize people no matter how crazy their beliefs are. They can think they have imaginary friends, the world is flat, and let's even let them think that martians are walking the earth as we speak. I thought people should be criticized when they believe dumb shit but on second thought, I have no right to do that no matter how silly the belief is.
lol its so complex to convince an atheist ,thou its possible with extreme patiences because u gotta show them facts from multiple sources ,scientifically ,biblicale etc etc just mindless arguments ,like of course questioning a fatherless black kid who never saw or heard about his father ,would think or say he don't have a father ,even thou he does which his mom never mentioned it to him damn it
i can't believe people think we just existed from some kind of accident or something!!! like we out here for fun and if that was the case what is the point of life? something is responsible ,ex: like our parents is birthly responsible, but i'll say this to any atheist ,if u want answers start searching nd questioning ur own life nd existence it might b helpful
@Amezz55 Its clear you lack a complete understanding of evolution. There's nothing to be ashamed of in that but the wise course of action would be to find out exactly what it is you're rejecting before you reject it. Now, you could say the exact same thing about atheists - that we need to have a more complete understanding of religion before we reject it - the thing is - we do. Recent studies have shown that atheists tend to have more complete knowledge of religion than believers themselves do.
@Amezz55 you right about religion ,theres no doubt but of course theres only one that stands out with the truth ,7th day adventist is the only organization holding the truth in this planet , but for an athiest to look around the universy and all its creation and manifestations nd say theres no GOD is just childness ,you got planet earth mass witnessess probably 80% + knows for a fact that there is a creator GOD nd that gives no excuses for an athiest
@Amezz55 Yes we as atheist can look around this universe and can say everything is a result of natural selection. It's not childess at all...it's dealing in reality to provide many answers, not mythology, superstition and magic. This universe is ever expanding as so time goes on science will continue to discover new evidences and give us more answers. The answers we don't have now, we're fine in saying "we don't know yet" ,not assigning some god that man has established to give humans comfort.
@Amezz55 There may be a god, but praying to him doesn't do much good. Is this supernatural being even aware of our presence? Many men have written words trying to describe this power they feel but do they really know what they are writing about? It's time for us as a whole to step back and look at what has been written and ponder, not charge blindly into faith.
@a1rh3add lol obviously its proven that we humans now nd dating back to our forefathers rely or live by prayers , it don't matter who u r ,if something bad or sad happen in any circumstances you call on God nd it really comes from the hearth which means its in your gene ,even if u r an atheist ,i know the catholic church fed us nd distracted us with that blind faith bs from the truth but deep inside every Atheists undeniably knows there is a God
"All the evidence available in the biological sciences supports the core proposition of traditional natural theology--that the cosmos is a specially designed whole with life and mankind as its fundamental goal and purpose, a whole in which all facets of reality, from the size of galaxies to the thermal capacity of water, have their meaning and explanation in this central fact."(p. 389) - Nature's Destiny by Michael Denton
I don't think that religion is a mental illness per se, but I do believe it's quite possible to be a good, decent, law abiding person without believing in God.
While I respect the tremendous role that religion has played in the history of
African Americans, I don't feel comfortable placing my faith in what is a very
elaborately written storybook( The Bible).
I like your videos, John. Keeping believing in logic. It's much better than believing in fiction. I wish more blacks thought like you.
Hi there! You forget an important person from the African-American community; Neil deGrasse Tyson. I'm white, but I've actually thought about the same thing; why are there so few black atheists? My theory is (and I don't mean this in an offensive way, I'm only trying to understand the situation) that for so many years the black population had nothing else but religion to keep them going. Slavery, no civil rights etc. That's why it has taken such root in the African-American community.
People are brainwashed about religion at such a young age it's almost impossible to get them to even question it at all. Most of the so-called christians have never read the bible, studied religion in any way, or asked any questions about it. That takes effort, and faith takes no effort. Unfortunately, religion is a mental illness, the only one that's contagious. And I don't see a complete end to it anytime soon, which is just depressing.

Morgan Freeman responded to "You describe yourself as a man of god" with "No! No. No. No. No." Hasn't outright claimed he's an atheist, but pretty close.
Thanks mjohanss1957 for responding and I look forward to communications in the future. My dad never said that he was an atheist but once-in-a-while (when he was mad in particular) he'd say "Fuck a jesus christ!". and I'd think to myself, YEAH! but I never talked with him about it because I was too young(at the time) and you just didn't question it because the belief was and is so strong with the whole damn community. In about 1975 I really started letting it out and I've been alone on it since.
Hey mjohanss1975, yeah, it's like that all over the States and in the black communities in which I grew up and still live, it'll never change. Nothing I say and believe me, in the 35 years or so that I have been preaching common sense, logic and all the reasons that their bible deosn't make since and that is as of today 9/30/11 and in 2 different conversations I am told, "well that's what you want to believe". They don't want to believe anything different because they're scared +. Silly!
Faith and belief are two words that hold no weight with me. I been saying this for years: If they killed slaves, burned their eyes out or cut out their tongues for learning how to read why in the hell would they give us a bible to read? It's all control! I've spent my whole life trying to seek knowledge about "god" and I've ended with no falling for the bullshit any longer. I put god next to santa clause & the easter bunny...
Religious black people make me really depressed. They are participating in a religion that was forced on them by the people who enslaved them and used that very same religion to justify it. The Africans have a religion(s) that are closer to any god than these people are and ever were. You're practically pissing on your fore father's graves while you rape your mother Africa.
@a1rh3add Don't blame the white man for today's black man's religion. Slavery ended 150 years ago, therefore any religion that the black man has today is not "forced on them by the people who enslaved them".
@cdog9991 What didn't make sense to me? You're the one who doesnt understand what I said so I need to spell it out for you. Note that I said the word "WAS" in my comment. "WAS" meaning over 150 yrs ago.
When abrahamic religion was forced onto African slaves it began the whole religious indoctrination process amongst the black community that we see today. Religious indoctrination is not free choice, it is a form of brainwashing. Indoctrination can brainwash whole societies, Nazi Germany for e.g.
@a1rh3add "They are participating in a religion that was forced on them by the people who enslaved them and used that very same religion to justify it."
"They ARE..." (talking about today's generation)
"...was forced on THEM..." (you're not specifying anyone else so by default it is assumed you're talking about the same generation)
Now i see what your trying to say, but you left your original comment open(maybe forced) to a different interpretation than what you intended.
@a1rh3add Please elaborate on said religions that take you "closer to any god." Does it have something to do with licking a frog or just straight eating Acid?
@a1rh3add "If any of you kidnap Israelites and make them your slaves or sell them into slavery, you are to be put to death. In this way your nation will get rid of this evil." Deuteronomy 24:7 GNT "He who kidnaps a man, whether he sells him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death. Exodus 21:16 After blacks became free they found out why the whiteman had prevented them from learning to read, because according to the bible everything the whiteman was doing was evil.
Thanks "JB3" I truly appreciate your video. I'm an atheist of about 35 yr's, never met another, only heard of a couple famous atheist and I've been preaching about it for the last 35 yr's. I looked (out of frustration for others like myself esp. being black and in Philly) and came across "Youtube" after looking for atheist on "Google" and BAM, just like the big bang I'm home! I can't believe all of you are on here!! I know your vid is old but I had to respond.
@SpoonyG925 I just had to ask about that bit you said about never having met another atheist. I am from Sweden myself and until I traveled overseas I had never met a christian. You just dont see any christians around here. But you are saying its the complete opposite over there in Philly? Blows my mind. I didnt think it was like that anywhere in the western world these days to tell u the truth.
i think that the list of famous atheists was lasking if robbin was the only black one on the pannel or whatever. there are quite a few black professors and physists ect that ive seen over the years. i also think alot of black people still have to stand out more than light skinned people in the "popular" public eye in alot of arenas.
and god helping sports being cheating is a first for me, and FUCKING BRILLIANT!
i am subscribing as you sound like a cool cat and want to hear more!
It's especially annoying to me when athletes are interviewed spouting stuff like "I'd like to thank God for giving me this opportunity." Well, I'd like to curse God for giving some people the opportunity to make millions throwing, kicking, catching, and dribbling balls while giving millions upon millions of others the opportunity to starve, wake up in single parent homes, and have no happiness in their future.
I have never met a black atheist and the reason being is probably because they have more to appreciate most of them grow up hard and actually struggle to the top and feel their blessings. They don't sit down and wait for scientist to come out with the next discovery they hav
Since I'm both Canadian and white I don't have as much interaction with African-American culture, and it wasn't until watching this video I didn't take different cultures into account. Is there a feeling of intimidation stronger over the African American culture to be religious than there is for the general people of N. America?

@TbearDAkang Praying (or talking to yourself) is part of the delusion that JohnBeezy spoke about if you watched his video. God bless
ReeseLuv0124 1 month ago
@ReeseLuv0124 God exists? How do you know? Because you know he died for your sins? That's not a reason.

@Sileni No, abusive ad hominen is of a person in their early 20's can produce. I have not yet reached the level of eloquence that Christopher Hitchens had. Also, I saw your original comment lacking intelligence or respect and I countered you with the same.

I don't know... anyway, I really liked the video.
endeerayneee 2 months ago
@endeerayneee I felt the same way about the term "atheist," which is why I didn't call myself one when I stopped being a Christian. The truth is, no one can fully know whether there is a God or not. To be a Christian, you claim that you know 100% that God exists. As an atheist, you can claim a degree of certainty. Even Richard Dawkins says that he can never be 100% sure that God doesn't exist. We lack a belief in God. We don't outright deny the miniscule possibility.

im white and my flat mate is a black devout christian , we've had many debates over religion and he never gets offended when i tell him he's wasting his time.. i just find it baffling why so many black people follow an organisation that repressed them for centuries .. to be honest , black atheists should out number white atheists for obvious reasons.
grumpyguts1967 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
I believe that's why the bible belt of the United States is largely contained within the Old South (continued)..
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
(continued)...
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
All social scientists would have to do to test the validity of my theory is to divide affiliation to christianity along income levels. I'll guarantee you it would be revealed that there would be a highly disproportionate percentage of the poverty-stricken population that is christian versus the comfortable, high-income levels.
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@vancouvermild your quite right , its why most deathrow innmates in America convert to christianity , out of hope and desperation i guess, but here in England , poverty isnt as widespread , therefore most folk take religion with a pinch of salt, its why we have Charles Darwin on the back of a £10 note , whereas as America has a ' in god we trust ' on bank notes, and presidents spouting ' god bless the united states ' tis hardly surprising America is so religiously hardcore, cheers.
grumpyguts1967 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
Exactly correct - however, I'll add to that. The early American frontier was populated with not only people living a roughing-it-style of life (compared to England), but many of them might have also been fleeing religious persecution. Add to that the fact that Europe (and Canada, for that matter) always had either a royal hiercharchy and/or a government to help take care of them and their needs (more so than the United States, any way) - (continued)
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
(continued from last post)...This is the formula for widespread religion (if not religious fanaticism?). Personally, I think people are looking for some sort of "higher" guidance in their life (not ALL people, of course!). Traditionally, in Europe/Canada, that meant royal hiearchy and/or governement. In the United States, that translated to God - after all, they rejected the concept of BIG government and most certainly rejected the concept of royalty - (Continued)...
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
I think the religious component will shrink (not disappear) given education and time.
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
By the way, please tell me how it goes over with your flat mate?
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
(continued)...
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967
(Continued)
vancouvermild 2 months ago
@grumpyguts1967

Christianity within the black community is a great display of ignorance, if you ask me. The very religion that once justified slavery and extreme racial prejudice against blacks (and often STILL does) is essentially being held up by the people it oppresses. Anyone who is white has all the reason in the world already to tell Christianity to go blow itself with or without the racial prejudice, but the black community should not hesitate for a moment to swiftly give that religion the bird.

because they were,or either taught on fears. And all they're getting,is faith & no action

@Black Atheism, my mistake... you have the right to criticize them, but they also have the right to ignore your criticisms and continue to do the very thing that you dislike. The world is big enough for all of us. Don't you think? I don't want to live in a world where everyone is a carbon copy of me. It would be boring.
MonsieurMercredi 3 months ago
@MonsieurMercredi So let me get this straight. You are essentially saying that you should never criticize someone's beliefs no matter how ridiculous they are?
JohnBeezy3 3 months ago
@JohnBeezy3, you like to argue. People can live their own lives. I have a life that needs living, and I'll spend my time living my life, and I'll leave it up to others to live their own lives; however, I do comment from time to time if I feel that people are trying to dictate how others should think or live their lives, just as I did in your case. I don't want to debate it though. I've submitted my comments, and you seem to disagree with me, and I'm ok with that. You have the right to do so
MonsieurMercredi 3 months ago
@MonsieurMercredi I actually don't like to argue. You must be used to making statements and no one challenging them. That isn't going to fly here.
To say or insinuate that people should let irrational beliefs slide is ridiculous. Irrational beliefs not only affect me but it affects other demographics, such as gays, on a daily basis. I cannot believe you don't see this. If people kept religion to themselves, I wouldn't need to let them know how silly their beliefs are.
JohnBeezy3 3 months ago
@JohnBeezy3, I can debate with the best of them; however, now, I'm much older and wiser. Where did debating get my paternal great grandmother and her people, the Crow Nation? Where did challenge the slave owners get my other paternal Black great grandmother that was born a slave? Where did it get my maternal great great grandfather, the nephew and slave to this White uncle, Dr. Warrick Miller of Kentucky. Where did it get his wife, after slavery, my great great grandmother, a Jewish female?
MonsieurMercredi 3 months ago
@JohnBeezy3, there has been many injustices in this world, but the strong refuse to feel any compassion for the weak. "Blacks like me and you are weak. Native Americans are weak; this includes most Latinos south of the border, and homosexuals are weak." I don't say this to insult anyone. I say this to speak the truth. The dominant culture has never shown any compassion to the weak among them; debating falls upon deaf ears. I've learned not to waste my time.
MonsieurMercredi 3 months ago
@JohnBeezy3, [conclusion] I do my part to respect others, regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, or ethnicity, and I leave it up to others to treat people the way that they will... and believe me... they will treat others the way that they choose to treat them. And... there's nothing that you or I or anyone else can do about it. Debating, just like marching, is a waste of time and effort. Unless the dominant culture wants to change, things will remain the same.
MonsieurMercredi 3 months ago
@JohnBreezy3, I apologize for not being more clear. I don't mean that all minorities are generally weak. What I meant to say is that we are weak when matched against a larger group that has the weapons, money and power; the dominant group doesn't care what the weaker group likes or wants; history has proven this, so your debates are just words; words have never conquered any civilization. Christianity was forced upon minorities with guns, whips, and ropes--it wasn't freely embraced by them.

At my church here's the 3 most unholy things you can do
1. Be black
2. Be gay
3. Be an atheist
Doing all 3 gets you shot...It's just pathetic how those blokescan't be accepting becuase some old ass white dude in "heaven" said it's wrong

OldGrowth420 3 months ago
Just as Christians don't have the right to think for me and you, we don't have the right to tell Christians that they are flawed in their thinking. It's insulting. I'm not an Atheist! I'm a "Free-Thinker!" I don't believe in seas parting for a man; I don't believe in a woman giving birth as a virgin; I don't believe in heaven or hell; I don't believe in pretending to fit into a group--Christianity. But, I have no right to make fun of or insult people that do believe in gods.
MonsieurMercredi 3 months ago
@MonsieurMercredi Sure. Let's not criticize people no matter how crazy their beliefs are. They can think they have imaginary friends, the world is flat, and let's even let them think that martians are walking the earth as we speak. I thought people should be criticized when they believe dumb shit but on second thought, I have no right to do that no matter how silly the belief is.

lol its so complex to convince an atheist ,thou its possible with extreme patiences because u gotta show them facts from multiple sources ,scientifically ,biblicale etc etc just mindless arguments ,like of course questioning a fatherless black kid who never saw or heard about his father ,would think or say he don't have a father ,even thou he does which his mom never mentioned it to him damn it
Amezz55 3 months ago
i can't believe people think we just existed from some kind of accident or something!!! like we out here for fun and if that was the case what is the point of life? something is responsible ,ex: like our parents is birthly responsible, but i'll say this to any atheist ,if u want answers start searching nd questioning ur own life nd existence it might b helpful
Amezz55 3 months ago
@Amezz55 Its clear you lack a complete understanding of evolution. There's nothing to be ashamed of in that but the wise course of action would be to find out exactly what it is you're rejecting before you reject it. Now, you could say the exact same thing about atheists - that we need to have a more complete understanding of religion before we reject it - the thing is - we do. Recent studies have shown that atheists tend to have more complete knowledge of religion than believers themselves do.
JoeNietzsche 3 months ago
@Amezz55 you right about religion ,theres no doubt but of course theres only one that stands out with the truth ,7th day adventist is the only organization holding the truth in this planet , but for an athiest to look around the universy and all its creation and manifestations nd say theres no GOD is just childness ,you got planet earth mass witnessess probably 80% + knows for a fact that there is a creator GOD nd that gives no excuses for an athiest
Amezz55 3 months ago
@Amezz55 Yes we as atheist can look around this universe and can say everything is a result of natural selection. It's not childess at all...it's dealing in reality to provide many answers, not mythology, superstition and magic. This universe is ever expanding as so time goes on science will continue to discover new evidences and give us more answers. The answers we don't have now, we're fine in saying "we don't know yet" ,not assigning some god that man has established to give humans comfort.
klmbaby6 3 months ago
@Amezz55 There may be a god, but praying to him doesn't do much good. Is this supernatural being even aware of our presence? Many men have written words trying to describe this power they feel but do they really know what they are writing about? It's time for us as a whole to step back and look at what has been written and ponder, not charge blindly into faith.
a1rh3add 3 months ago

SpoonyG925 4 months ago
Hey mjohanss1975, yeah, it's like that all over the States and in the black communities in which I grew up and still live, it'll never change. Nothing I say and believe me, in the 35 years or so that I have been preaching common sense, logic and all the reasons that their bible deosn't make since and that is as of today 9/30/11 and in 2 different conversations I am told, "well that's what you want to believe". They don't want to believe anything different because they're scared +. Silly!
PEACE

Faith and belief are two words that hold no weight with me. I been saying this for years: If they killed slaves, burned their eyes out or cut out their tongues for learning how to read why in the hell would they give us a bible to read? It's all control! I've spent my whole life trying to seek knowledge about "god" and I've ended with no falling for the bullshit any longer. I put god next to santa clause & the easter bunny...
OuttaControlTroll 4 months ago
Religious black people make me really depressed. They are participating in a religion that was forced on them by the people who enslaved them and used that very same religion to justify it. The Africans have a religion(s) that are closer to any god than these people are and ever were. You're practically pissing on your fore father's graves while you rape your mother Africa.
a1rh3add 4 months ago 17
@a1rh3add Don't blame the white man for today's black man's religion. Slavery ended 150 years ago, therefore any religion that the black man has today is not "forced on them by the people who enslaved them".

cdog9991 4 months ago

Now i see what your trying to say, but you left your original comment open(maybe forced) to a different interpretation than what you intended.
cdog9991 4 months ago
@a1rh3add Please elaborate on said religions that take you "closer to any god." Does it have something to do with licking a frog or just straight eating Acid?
endoscented 3 months ago

I didnt think it was like that anywhere in the western world these days to tell u the truth.

The arrogance is just staggering!

I have never met a black atheist and the reason being is probably because they have more to appreciate most of them grow up hard and actually struggle to the top and feel their blessings. They don't sit down and wait for scientist to come out with the next discovery they hav
