  • one of their very best ..saw them do this in the HMV megastore in Oxford Street when they were promoting the no place like home album...cant imagine the people i in the classical section were too amused.

  • Gonna cover this song with my band and spread the music out there.

Great track, great upload, great band! :)

  • Nice Video mate well done

  • just love that solo at the end there.....proves what a force big bountry could be!!!!

  • awsome vid!

  • 4:53pm Thursday (CSTV) - Time in M

    are we n Kansas eh~ J

  • WHAT A MASTERPIECE! STILL GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS! RIP STUART, AND THANKS FOR ALL THE GOOD MUSIC YOU LEFT BEHIND, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. ----------JOE FROM MEXICO---------

  • Big Country playing at full tilt, with Simon Phillips on the drums. Great images here Carl, with lyrics which have references to the "Wizard of Oz", including "yellow bricks", and "well dog, I know we're not in Kansas" referring to Dorothy's dog Toto. A BIg Country classic. Whether this "Buffalo Skinners" version is better than the one on "No Place Like Home" is always a point for debate.

  • @GOLLYSKYWOOD2 I think I prefer this version, a track with Simon Phillips always seems to have something extra, there isn't another drummer who plays with quite the same drive and intelligence (nothing wrong with Mark of course).

  • great video, big country where beefore my time really as im 22 now but thanks to my dad and literally giving me everything they ever did i can say they will probably be the greatest band ive listened to in my life although there is alot of time for that to change i cant see it!

  • Out of all the great Big Country songs this is the greatest of them all. A masterpiece both musically and lyrically. Thanks for a great collage of images to go with the song, Carl! R.I.P., Stu.

  • CarlBewley, fantastic video, mate!

I was so glad you included the "for Colored" door sign, KKK marches, McCarthy, segregated schoolroom and Black Panther photos.

Of course BRILLIANT lyrics, per usual, from Stuart Adamson as well as solid hard Rocking guitar, drum, bass lines! : )

Re.:"sure he would've seen a bit of sense then ". Clinical Depression is NOT any lack of sense; psychosis; or emotional depression (emo dprssn is only 1of 10s of worse debilitating symptoms of constant misery).

  • My favourite Big Country song. Because of the great guitar work and the great lyrics.

  • Maybe at 41 this shouldn't happen to a person, but I have fallen in love with this song to the point of obsession, can't stop playing it and I'm gonna beg my band to cover it. Stuart, we miss you so much, man!

  • @SuperbaFrango - I'm right there with ya man, I'm 40 and still have this song on heavy rotation on my ipod. RIP Stuart...

  • Does this happen to anyone else my age (41)? - This song has taken over my brain! I absolutely love it to the point of obsession. I think it's incredible, every bit as good as all their classic hits and then some. I play in a band who just decided to concentrate on original songs, but I'll be pleading with them to cover this mighty, mighty song!

  • Posted your video on the BBC Newsnight Blog. Paul Mason is doing a report tonight on the budget. Apparently it's called We're Not In Kansas. Great video to go with a great song.

  • Cheers!

    Carl

  • I saw Big Country a few times in the 90's and they opened one of the shows with this song. I fell in love with it then and it still gives me goosebumps now. I met Stuart Adamson after one show and he was the nicest guy ever! Carl has done a great job on this video. I think Stuart would have approved! Miss you Stuart!

  • Cheers! I met Stuart a good few times throughout the years, always struck me as a very affable fella - and God how I miss him now . . . upsetting really :( too young to die as he did, wish we could have all got to him and told him what he really meant to his fans - sure he would've seen a bit of sense then . . never mind . . .

  • @CarlBewley man i wish i met him(i am 13). he is my hero and role-model. im american of scottish and some irish, and i understand what the song mean(cynical but true perception of everything political) stu must have been a great lad.

Cheers to the video RIP Will Stuart Adamson

  • carl a suberb video to a great underated band ! rip stuart !!

    thank you carl

  • Thanks pal. Loved your Shine on vid too!

  • Well done, Carl. Very well done.

  • Cheers!

  • I like the imagery you've used for this, Carl. Cool indeed. It's always great to find someone's own take on Stuart's lyrics, his lyrical ambiguity lends itself to many interpretations, and i loved that about his writing :-)

  • Ta very much, glad you enjoyed it :)

  • Thanks for this moment!!!

  • awesome song, nice video, thanks for posting

  • This is my favorite song of all-time! Not only my favorite Big Country song, but my all-time favorite! Period! The whole "Buffalo Skinners" album is great as well!

  • Carl, you are too hard on yourself. Thats a brilliant video and my favourite track from that album, does anyone know if Pat Ahern was the drummer on that album? It didnt sound like Mark to my ears anyway. Should have been a single with a video but would have been too controversial for the U.S. market I expect.

  • Hey Tim41,

    Thanks for your comments.

Its not Mark on this version. Mark played on the original on 'No Place Like Home' Although he had left the band, he played studio drums on that album as a session Musician.

This isnt Pat Ahearn either it's Simon Philips whose a great skin thumper in his own right. Well spotted though, Good ears!

  • Great video!!

    Thanks

    jack
