When was conscription ended? (assuming you know its meaning). Whether a soldier volunteers, or was conscripted 60 odd years ago,, it is insulting and dumb to equate their bravery with suicide. I was drafted in 1964 and went willingly. I served for a year in Vietnam, saw action and got back to be called "baby killer" murderer, etc. I was proud that I went. When was conscription ended? (assuming you know its meaning). Whether a soldier volunteers, or was conscripted 60 odd years ago,, it is insulting and dumb to equate their bravery with suicide. The army infantry under General Bradley invaded Utah and Omaha beaches at Normandy during WW2. Also George Patton commanded the 7th and 3rd Army in Italy and Europe during WW2. The Marines fought the pacific theature while the U.S. Army fought in Europe. All while being backed by the Navy and Air Force.

America has plenty of men/women who could be trained for operational readiness if the need to defend our country from imminent and unequivocal attack arises. spartan race, crossfit, tough mudder, ironmans, warrior dash, marathons, warrior challenge, metrodash, etc.. not to mention our active duty/ reservist/ gaurdsman are no slouches (for the most part). The prognosis is not necessarily as ominous as we might assume.

@janses08 Im going into the military after I graduate college for officers training. Become an air traffic controller or a pilot. Get experience doing that with military discipline and then pursue that career in the civilian sector. Make 115-225 thousand dollars a year. Tell me that's not a good effort. I would much rather be a dreamer, intellectual, conversationalist or even some sort of creative character. Being harsh to yourself, torturing yourself doesn't make you tough. When I read gossip about Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton I'm interested in reading 1,000's of different perspectives of a single event. It helps me understand psychology, personalities and opinions with personal stories thrown in.
