If you see that you can't stop pulling off red early, the only advice I can give you is to slow your hands down a bit. I know it would be difficult, because it's probably your natural instinct now to do what you've been doing, so you're just going to have to re-write your muscle memory in order to do this. It's tough, but that's just about all you can do.

It sounds like you don't have zigzag tapping down. Try playing Freebird solo C, red snake is the same motion, just faster. Get that zigzag tapping down and run with it.

Well, it all depends on what speed you're on. If you're on anything other that full speed, yeah, it probably means you're holding it too long and you need to practice the timing of it. If it's full speed, you can really abuse the timing window of GH3, so try hitting the reds and blues at basically the same time and releasing them at the same time. Should work.

This helped me so much! i started doing the snake on slowest hit it a couple times, was bored so i completed ttfaf on expert and when the snake came i tried ur method really fast and hit the first 2 yellows and 1 blue on full speed so i went to slow (skipping slower on practice) and after about 20-30 tries i got it and get it every about 7 tries now. People doing it on slower is 100x easier than you think, just watch a video with hands and just see how fast you have to hit the 7 taps, i did that

I always used this method before ever looking up a method, but could never hit it. Hopefully I can learn to time my taps better. Question though... why do you wait for the snake to come, then tap it? Why not do the whole thing? I think it's easier to just do it all.
ok im starting to wonder if this is even possible to hit using a frigin SG. i have been trying this for way to long to remember when my first comment on this vid was and i am still to hit it. i have actually gotten worse at it and i am lucky to hit it on slow. slower is to easy and i can pretty much sleep and hit it on slower but when i up the speed my fingers just well idk but they dont want to hit it right. idk i may end up giving up on this one.
Nah dude, you just have to keep rolling with it. I was EXTREMELY lucky to hit it in the first 20 minutes of practice. Just keep grinding it out on full speed, watch vids of the red snake on youtube and practice the timing and speed on that, then take it to full speed.
yeah it would pretty much have to be luck cuz i havent once hit it on FS. i got lucky once and hit the first like 6 notes of it but once i got to the blues i panicked and failed. idk i have the notes and pace of that thing memorized but getting my left ring finger(i use it for the red) to go fast enough just doesnt seem possible for me. i can hit the Y,B,and O just fine but the reds are what is difficult for me. i kinda screwed myself when i found out about tapping cuz i tap every trill now.

Try slowing it down a bit, maybe kicking it back down to slower to try to figure out your errors. If you still can't get it, I recommend trying jnukes's method, lots of good feedback from that method as well.
ive tried jnukes and i can only do that on slowest but i only hit it like every 10 to 15 times. but i can hit it your way one slower every time. its really easy but when i try to go to slow i cant really tell how fast the thing is moving so i tap the correct notes randomly on the speed. its different. i can hit freebird solo on FS no problme almost every time but then the snake like scares me and i cant get the speed right.
I misss around there a lot, too. It's basically all an issue about consistency of tapping. If you speed up or slow down at all during the snake, you'll miss. You have to keep the same consistent speed.
And ogichi, one thing you can do is take the snake into slow, and play along without strumming or trying to hit the notes. Do this a few times to get the rhythm and speed, then try actually hitting it.
well umm okay i spent about an hour with the snake last night and i FINALLY moved up to slow. i can now tap it on slow almost every time but i usually mess up around the 1st or 2nd orange which is really bugging me. but i tried it on FS and i can usually get it started but i cant seem to get to the blues yet. idk but i havent really gotten that great at slow yet so i still need some practice but i have been able to hit it a few times.
well i have pretty much given up on this for now. i am gonna get better at tapping in general and at ziggys before going back to this. i have been playing freebird solo c alot and the last solo to yyz and just anything else that has ziggys to get better at them. maybe with more practice at other things like hangar 18 solo 7! will get my fingers fast and maybe fast enough to hit it.

When ziggy tapping this, tap the first yellow normally. Give yourself the small half second you have to concentrate on nailing that second yellow by skimming it. Keep the skimming rhythm and skim the next two blues, then two oranges, then really hit that last orange to satisfy your insanity. Do all this with hitting red 7 times while holding green and you should get it EVERY TIME.

That would imply that you would like to trill the red. I tried it, and it is really, really, really fast to trill. It's probably easier just grinding it out and trying to nail my method. If you work with it for a while, I'm sure you'll get it.
Ok Arnold, I've FC'ed this about 10 times now on Full Speed... 2 in a row once. Thanks so much, and I'd like to ad another tip I found that works VERY well.
Try to keep your middle finger on the red button at all times. If you can kinda feel it touching, then as you depress the button it doesn't have very far to go when you push it back down again. Usually gets the reds all the time. Skimming the taps also helps (just in a downward motion).

Yeah, I'm sure hitting it in 20 minutes was about 10% skill and 90% luck, but it happened. Getting it consistent is a bit more difficult, though. Keep grinding it out, you'll get it.
I'm not sure if I'm holding red down too long, or not enough, or what.... when I hit the red and the tap, should I come down with my middle finger and tapping finger at the same time, and focus on keeping the red held down afterwards, or what? I just don't get the timing for this and I can't get a good sounding rhythm down. Is there anything in specific that you listen for in your tapping?
Yeah, like, if you listen to my hands when I tap, I tap kinda loud, so there is a particular sound to doing it right. Trying just running through it without hitting notes to get the sound of the tapping. Also, a tip from jnukes, is that all of the first taps, like, the first yellow, first blue, and first and last orange, are on words "we" "feel" "the" "pain"
This is the best red snake tutorial that I have seen so far. I do have a question, though: I've spent probably somewhere in the range of 3 hours working on the red snake in the last 2 days, and I consider myself a better than average tapper. On slowest, I have only FCed the snake 4 times in the last 2 days, and 0 times on any other difficulty. My main worry is the timing. I know the timing window in gh3 is really big, but i always miss with either a 26 or 30 ns, and no idea why. Help plz?
Well, there's actually only 7 middle finger taps in the snake. It's like a medium fast trill, basically. Just work on some trills with your pointer and middle and you should be good.
FC consistently on Slow now, have yet to get Full Speed. Probably within a couple days I'll get it. I'd like to say thanks for the vid and tips, I find hitting the red button real hard helps with the fast tapping.

Ok, I tried, and FC'ed on Slowest, and almost twice on Slower in 10 minutes. Just I have problems with releasing the tap before I release red... so I'm jamming red in a way because I'm afraid I'm holding it too long while trying to tap quick, but it all screws up. Any tips on this please? Thanks.
Alright, the snake is all about timing. One thing that may help is on the tapping that isn't red and green, hit the notes decently hard and get the rhythm in your head. If you can do it on slowest, listen to the rhythm of your fingers hitting the notes, and try to give it that same sound but quicker on the next speed..the tapped notes need to be released kinda quick, especially when moving up speed
I tap Free Bird's Solo C pretty easily now on Full Speed, and found a technique: pay attention to the (red for snake, yellow for FB) and hold your finger for every two notes you see. On hyperspeed in GH2, it's easy to see the yellows and then as you hold these yellows two at a time you tap the blue from feeling. The snake is harder, because you can barely see the reds... even on hyperspeed 5. Arnold, think I should follow this and try to see the reds or continue finding rhythm to get everything?
haha...now here's one thing I forgot to mention in the video, might add it later if a lot of people don't pick it up from pure Instinct. During the actual snake, I pay no attention whatsoever to the green and red notes. The only notes I really look at are the non-green and red notes, all the tapped ones.
Well, it actually isn't moving that fast, if you look at how it is to tap zigzags for the Freebird solo. Some people think you have to trill it, and if you do, it's a really quick trill, but if you do what I do and just pull it off and hammer it on from the other notes, it's only like half the work of a tril. I only actually pick up and drop my middle finger 7 times through the snake.

ok im starting to wonder if this is even possible to hit using a frigin SG. i have been trying this for way to long to remember when my first comment on this vid was and i am still to hit it. i have actually gotten worse at it and i am lucky to hit it on slow. slower is to easy and i can pretty much sleep and hit it on slower but when i up the speed my fingers just well idk but they dont want to hit it right. idk i may end up giving up on this one.

Nah dude, you just have to keep rolling with it. I was EXTREMELY lucky to hit it in the first 20 minutes of practice. Just keep grinding it out on full speed, watch vids of the red snake on youtube and practice the timing and speed on that, then take it to full speed.

yeah it would pretty much have to be luck cuz i havent once hit it on FS. i got lucky once and hit the first like 6 notes of it but once i got to the blues i panicked and failed. idk i have the notes and pace of that thing memorized but getting my left ring finger(i use it for the red) to go fast enough just doesnt seem possible for me. i can hit the Y,B,and O just fine but the reds are what is difficult for me. i kinda screwed myself when i found out about tapping cuz i tap every trill now.

well i have tried jnukes method and could barely hit this thing on slowest. i can hit it on slow almost every time now using this method so i think im gonna stick to this one i just cant seem to hit it on FS.

Uh, I'm not really sure about the main setlist. On some of the last solos in the slash battle there's a zigzag you can try if you have the DLC

there is also cities on flames with rock and roll and thats got a zigzag but its with the yellow, blue and orange notes so u might have to slide down pretty far

well umm okay i have been trying your method for about 3 weeks now and i really cant do it. i can get up to slow but i just cant hit it any faster i cant seem to do the reds with my middle finger fast enough im just not fast enough on the reds i dont trill i do exactly as you show and idk if its my red or if im tapping the other buttons too fast i do get kinda scared when it comes to slow so i tap EXTREMELY fast and that may be it but idk. judging from the sound of your tapping i am goin to fast

Try slowing it down a bit, maybe kicking it back down to slower to try to figure out your errors. If you still can't get it, I recommend trying jnukes's method, lots of good feedback from that method as well.

ive tried jnukes and i can only do that on slowest but i only hit it like every 10 to 15 times. but i can hit it your way one slower every time. its really easy but when i try to go to slow i cant really tell how fast the thing is moving so i tap the correct notes randomly on the speed. its different. i can hit freebird solo on FS no problme almost every time but then the snake like scares me and i cant get the speed right.

I misss around there a lot, too. It's basically all an issue about consistency of tapping. If you speed up or slow down at all during the snake, you'll miss. You have to keep the same consistent speed.

And ogichi, one thing you can do is take the snake into slow, and play along without strumming or trying to hit the notes. Do this a few times to get the rhythm and speed, then try actually hitting it.

well umm okay i spent about an hour with the snake last night and i FINALLY moved up to slow. i can now tap it on slow almost every time but i usually mess up around the 1st or 2nd orange which is really bugging me. but i tried it on FS and i can usually get it started but i cant seem to get to the blues yet. idk but i havent really gotten that great at slow yet so i still need some practice but i have been able to hit it a few times.

Try tapping the reds with both your middle and ring finger. You don't need to hit the yellows, blues, and oranges like jnukes. Just the reds.

well i have pretty much given up on this for now. i am gonna get better at tapping in general and at ziggys before going back to this. i have been playing freebird solo c alot and the last solo to yyz and just anything else that has ziggys to get better at them. maybe with more practice at other things like hangar 18 solo 7! will get my fingers fast and maybe fast enough to hit it.

When ziggy tapping this, tap the first yellow normally. Give yourself the small half second you have to concentrate on nailing that second yellow by skimming it. Keep the skimming rhythm and skim the next two blues, then two oranges, then really hit that last orange to satisfy your insanity. Do all this with hitting red 7 times while holding green and you should get it EVERY TIME.

That would imply that you would like to trill the red. I tried it, and it is really, really, really fast to trill. It's probably easier just grinding it out and trying to nail my method. If you work with it for a while, I'm sure you'll get it.

Yeah, you use the pulloffs. With using all the HOPOs you only need 7 red taps

Ok Arnold, I've FC'ed this about 10 times now on Full Speed... 2 in a row once. Thanks so much, and I'd like to ad another tip I found that works VERY well.
Try to keep your middle finger on the red button at all times. If you can kinda feel it touching, then as you depress the button it doesn't have very far to go when you push it back down again. Usually gets the reds all the time. Skimming the taps also helps (just in a downward motion).

ONLY 20 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!! dang i sat there for like 6 hours trying to get this down and only hit it 3 times on slowest and 2 times on slower dang you have to be some frigin superhuman or something. i used jnukes video and way of hitting it and i couldnt get it down ill try yers but dang only 20 minutes thats good. this is the only song i cant 5* and its making me mad(im only 380 points away) maybe if i hit this then ill be able to 5* it. thanx for the vid and ill go try this now.

Yeah, I'm sure hitting it in 20 minutes was about 10% skill and 90% luck, but it happened. Getting it consistent is a bit more difficult, though. Keep grinding it out, you'll get it.

I'm not sure if I'm holding red down too long, or not enough, or what.... when I hit the red and the tap, should I come down with my middle finger and tapping finger at the same time, and focus on keeping the red held down afterwards, or what? I just don't get the timing for this and I can't get a good sounding rhythm down. Is there anything in specific that you listen for in your tapping?

Yeah, like, if you listen to my hands when I tap, I tap kinda loud, so there is a particular sound to doing it right. Trying just running through it without hitting notes to get the sound of the tapping. Also, a tip from jnukes, is that all of the first taps, like, the first yellow, first blue, and first and last orange, are on words "we" "feel" "the" "pain"

This is the best red snake tutorial that I have seen so far. I do have a question, though: I've spent probably somewhere in the range of 3 hours working on the red snake in the last 2 days, and I consider myself a better than average tapper. On slowest, I have only FCed the snake 4 times in the last 2 days, and 0 times on any other difficulty. My main worry is the timing. I know the timing window in gh3 is really big, but i always miss with either a 26 or 30 ns, and no idea why. Help plz?

Well, there's actually only 7 middle finger taps in the snake. It's like a medium fast trill, basically. Just work on some trills with your pointer and middle and you should be good.

Ok, I tried, and FC'ed on Slowest, and almost twice on Slower in 10 minutes. Just I have problems with releasing the tap before I release red... so I'm jamming red in a way because I'm afraid I'm holding it too long while trying to tap quick, but it all screws up. Any tips on this please? Thanks.

Alright, the snake is all about timing. One thing that may help is on the tapping that isn't red and green, hit the notes decently hard and get the rhythm in your head. If you can do it on slowest, listen to the rhythm of your fingers hitting the notes, and try to give it that same sound but quicker on the next speed..the tapped notes need to be released kinda quick, especially when moving up speed

I tap Free Bird's Solo C pretty easily now on Full Speed, and found a technique: pay attention to the (red for snake, yellow for FB) and hold your finger for every two notes you see. On hyperspeed in GH2, it's easy to see the yellows and then as you hold these yellows two at a time you tap the blue from feeling. The snake is harder, because you can barely see the reds... even on hyperspeed 5. Arnold, think I should follow this and try to see the reds or continue finding rhythm to get everything?

haha...now here's one thing I forgot to mention in the video, might add it later if a lot of people don't pick it up from pure Instinct. During the actual snake, I pay no attention whatsoever to the green and red notes. The only notes I really look at are the non-green and red notes, all the tapped ones.

Well, it actually isn't moving that fast, if you look at how it is to tap zigzags for the Freebird solo. Some people think you have to trill it, and if you do, it's a really quick trill, but if you do what I do and just pull it off and hammer it on from the other notes, it's only like half the work of a tril. I only actually pick up and drop my middle finger 7 times through the snake.
