  • That was some excellent footage, my friend! The defined leading low arc-like cloud band is referred to as the shelf cloud - the boundary between warm moist air ahead of the storm and cold, dense air behind it. The downdrafts thrust the warm air ahead of the storm upward, where it condenses in a long line of dark low cloud, marking the boundary between the airmasses.

    Funnel clouds commonly form along the shelf if there are significant rotation signatures within the updraft area.
