To set the record straight, in a public event it absolutely doesn't matter who is right or wrong, what matters is who is being disruptive to a peaceful gathering (even if the message being spoken isn't something people agree on). It is clear in this video who those people were. The MSU police had every right to remove persons they deemed to be disruptive and/or potentially threatening.

I am asking because this is what happened to me and the people I was with. You're saying discrimination based on ideological lines is permissable. Just clarifying your assertions here.
Not what I'm saying. From the looks of the video it looks as though the person being removed was actively participating in the crowds chanting. I don't know why he was singled out (or if others were being removed), but there are reasons officers choose who they do - reasons which are NOT based on ideology or physical traits.
I see nearly every report that comes through our Post and, while it might seem to onlookers that things being done don't make sense, or even seem wrong, I assure you that there is ALWAYS a reason behind an officer's action. There's almost always more going on than what there appears to be.
Also, when I use the term "potentially threatening" I'm not speaking to ideaological affiliations. In fact, that association didn't cross my mind. I meant to say that officers often have to make judgement calls based on physical indicators and personal experience (just to name two) as to what a person might do. For example - if a suspect is pointing a gun at you and is highly agitated, there's a good chance he's going to shoot.
Officer must make judgements calls just like the rest of us in order to avoid a worse situation. In such cases an officer might opt to use a taser or to tackle a suspect - whatever they can do to avoid endangering themselves and/or others. To many people it might seem like excessive force, but often times the real facts don't come to light - like a person's criminal history, for example.
I happen to know for fact that the vast majority of stories never hit the press, unless something goes wrong. And then it's typically the cops that are the bad guys.
I'm just saying that, you know, the "pigs" aren't usually what they are portrayed to be.
I remember when I was a student at MSU and was at a peaceful event where something similiar happened. Mid-way through a speech a group of students barged in dressed completely in black, and in unison went to the front of the room, stood in front of the speaker, and started chanting so loud the speaker could no longer be heard, or seen either since they were holding signs up to block the view.
They continued shouting and engaging in speech which demanded response. Those of us in the room were quiet for some time, but eventually shouting on both parts occurred as nothing was changing.
The campus police were poised to interveen, but stood by and waited for clear signs that a physical altercation was about to occur or that the confrontation wouldn't end without intervention by the officers.
The persons who created the disturbance were asked to leave and when they refused, they were removed.
While a student I didn't think twice about it, but now in retrospect, I think the campus police (and even the campus "parking nazis") deserve to be commended for their work.

I had to join the military in order to get money to pay for college. I was born and raised in the projects of South Boston Massachusetts, and 3 of my grandparents were immigrants from Ireland. Loving in the projects, we had a TV, telephone, heat in the winter, food on the table which in the late 70's was more than the average person in the world. I'll tell you what happened. Chris Simcox, a part of the Minuteman group came to MSU and was shouted down by radical leftists, when the people wouldn't quiet down, the police was forced to arrest some of them, and naturally they called it police brutality.

The event was open to the public, therefor everyone had a right to be there. To close an event all participants must leave. This did not occur, the police lied and aided the YAF and College Republicans in ordered to reap the benefits of overtime pay.

As an MSU alum and now currently an employee of the Michigan State Police I can safely say that officers put up with enough bull that "reaping the benefits of overtime pay" is something that doesn't happen. Would you go into a room of a bunch of screaming kids, many of which are shouting at you and making your job very difficult in order to make an extra $10? I know I wouldn't.

To set the record straight, in a public event it absolutely doesn't matter who is right or wrong, what matters is who is being disruptive to a peaceful gathering (even if the message being spoken isn't something people agree on). It is clear in this video who those people were. The MSU police had every right to remove persons they deemed to be disruptive and/or potentially threatening.

Not what I'm saying. From the looks of the video it looks as though the person being removed was actively participating in the crowds chanting. I don't know why he was singled out (or if others were being removed), but there are reasons officers choose who they do - reasons which are NOT based on ideology or physical traits.

I see nearly every report that comes through our Post and, while it might seem to onlookers that things being done don't make sense, or even seem wrong, I assure you that there is ALWAYS a reason behind an officer's action. There's almost always more going on than what there appears to be.

Also, when I use the term "potentially threatening" I'm not speaking to ideaological affiliations. In fact, that association didn't cross my mind. I meant to say that officers often have to make judgement calls based on physical indicators and personal experience (just to name two) as to what a person might do. For example - if a suspect is pointing a gun at you and is highly agitated, there's a good chance he's going to shoot.

Officer must make judgements calls just like the rest of us in order to avoid a worse situation. In such cases an officer might opt to use a taser or to tackle a suspect - whatever they can do to avoid endangering themselves and/or others. To many people it might seem like excessive force, but often times the real facts don't come to light - like a person's criminal history, for example.

I remember when I was a student at MSU and was at a peaceful event where something similiar happened. Mid-way through a speech a group of students barged in dressed completely in black, and in unison went to the front of the room, stood in front of the speaker, and started chanting so loud the speaker could no longer be heard, or seen either since they were holding signs up to block the view.

They continued shouting and engaging in speech which demanded response. Those of us in the room were quiet for some time, but eventually shouting on both parts occurred as nothing was changing.
The campus police were poised to interveen, but stood by and waited for clear signs that a physical altercation was about to occur or that the confrontation wouldn't end without intervention by the officers.

The persons who created the disturbance were asked to leave and when they refused, they were removed.
While a student I didn't think twice about it, but now in retrospect, I think the campus police (and even the campus "parking nazis") deserve to be commended for their work.
