Irish solution. If you don't trust the police.... disarm the police. I wouldn't trust half of the gobshites around here with a firearms. I don't even trust these people with a car.
@LLOYD19851012 Haha Don't be jealous of our guns! I am proud to be able to defend my home if need be with a gun in every corner.... incidentally there have been no burglaries or robberies in this neck of the woods for over a decade, the last burglar who tried didn't end up too good... he dead.... :D
im not against having guns but what im worried about is ppl feeling that they need to be afraid. what is really the odds of the threat involved? is it real or is it paranoia? and if your society becomes paranoid ppl will give up freedoms out of that fear. or ppl will no longer trust their neighbors saying you cant trust anyone anymore which is an over reaction.
errhmm..Penn.. if you want to give US citizens the power to overthrow the government you're gonna need more than guns. You'll need to legalize grenades, rocket launchers, tanks, etc.
Of course once you've done this they will become much more readily available to criminals, and you can expect to see higher rates of grenade/rocket launcher/tanks killings.
@SigurdHeathen I'd have to do a thorough analysis of the statistics (my job), but a brief examination across different countries seems to show a positive correlation between availability of lethal weapons and higher murder rates.
The argument about "it's people not guns that kill people" is bullshit, by that reasoning we shouldn't worry about Iran going nuclear.
from europe this looks plain crazy - here no one except police and hunters has a gun and our crime statistics on homicide and violence crimes are much better than in the us.
@nina1608 Yes but Criminals aren't the only concern. It's the government. Europe may have lower crime stats but look up gun restrictions during the Hitler and Stalin regimes.
Never needed guns. Never will need one. If the police would work in USA as it SHOULD that would be fantastic.
So i am torn, i hate guns cause its so easy to kill large groups so easily. And that in ideal society we souldnt have to keep guns. But i guess America, will remain america on gun culture.
@Anuojat Well, that would mean you can't actually depend on the police 100%. And, when could you ever? You also cannot depend on everyone with access to guns to use them responsibly. However, banning them entirely does not work. There are still guns in the world. Gun control allows the criminals to get guns. Locks are for honest people!
Not to mention: if gun control is enforced, how would the government have power over people? With guns. Who has the better potential to become criminal then?
@leeknivek I guess it comes down to society you live in. I dont live in the US, so it might be simply that. I know may sounds like BS, but here polica is trusted for the most part and government regulates guns in way which confines people pretty tightly. Do we rebel for that? No, we dont need to. We dont need to have guns for other than maybe hunting.
@Anuojat That seems fine until law enforcement oversteps their bounds. Not saying they will or won't, however. But, just in case they do, that's why citizens are granted the right to bear arms in defense of their oppressors.
I do hope your country remains peaceful, though, regardless.
@leeknivek Indeed, i know as an... (i am assuming things here) US citizen youve always been suspicious of government. Regardless of party in charce.
Here its enough transparent that we dont need to pull or even carry weapons. Do you know what we pull out? Tv remote, keyboard and mouse, a beer and red glare in our minds when we next time vote. Its not an angry one, but rather one where we the people TROLL our governors ;)
Also...Penn said in the death penalty episode that personal pain was no excuse for the death penalty that your own pain from losing a loved one to a criminal still did not excuse you to kill that person. Now in this episode we have a woman telling the story of her father being killed by a killer with a gun and she now keeps a gun for protection....very dissapointed in Penn and Teller in this episode...
I agree with Avengerxp...this i the first one I disagree with, the thing that annoys me is that they both did an episode fighting a very good argument against the death penalty, their main defence being it is WRONG to kill another human being but....Penn now says a bullet in the brain stops rape. This isnt the words of someone against the death penalty...
I have no problem with access to handguns, shotguns and hunting rifles. Used for Sport, Hunting or self defence. But what I cannot fathom is why full automatic weapons such as assault weapons and submachine guns can be legal.
Just a thought, ban all guns-but arm everyone with swords. Everyone will be in a class to learn how to use it. Everyone can carry openly. What would happen then? I wonder.
What would happen is big strong criminals would still be raping and killing people, except they'd have swords and and their brute strength would suddenly matter.
Contract this with guns, where even a heavy set shop owner in her 50s is as strong as the weight lifting violent criminal...
I'm not anarchist, I do think US government has it's usefull points but it's flawed by thinking that the WEAK have no right to get strong. So by their lawmaking so far they create new criminals (or will create) if they ban gun's they will only help in making new criminals. That lady's story is heartbraking she lost both her parents cause some loan nut that was on a power trip.
The problem is guns wouldn't be enough against the US govern't and its military. You'd have to learn about making bombs, IEDs and those aren't guns. Shouldn't folks be asking for the right to have bomb making equipment and material?
You'd be surprised. The US government would have massive problems enforcing law if only 2-3% of the population were actively against it. Bombs are not exactly rocket science, if the situation called for it, it would not be difficult to create them. However, it's very hard to improvise a firearm effectively.
The goverment often forgets or remeber to forget that citizens are the ones that place them there. They work sometimes in favour of citizens but often they harm them more by issuing the crappy legislation.

Normal people here are no different, just the leaders........
The reason why those places were made 'gun free zones' is the (perceived) higher risk of gun violence in those places, so to claim the laws are useless based on the occurrence of gun violence in spite of the laws makes no sense.
How is preventing someone who obeys the law from carrying a gun going to reduce violence? That's pure bullshit. If I wanted to go on a killing spree, the FIRST place I would go is where it's ILLEGAL for anyone who might oppose me and defend themselves to carry guns.
There was some public attention on guns lately with Gaffy Giffords (apologize about the spelling) being shot. Within the next six months, gun control laws actually were loosened. Gun hysteria does not always lead to greater gun control.
@campingkillen What's your point? If you're "for" gun control then you're a government drone. You're mistaking liberty for security lmao, keep thinking the government is out there for YOUR safety eh? Right.. ok..lmao. hahahahah.
Yes, and I know people who live is Switzerland, where literally everyone is required to serve in the military, and it's commonplace to see people carrying firearms openly in stores, on the streets, and in one's home. Guess what, they have some of the absolute LOWEST gun crime rates ANYWHERE.
So guns will serve people from a tyrant government? In fact: it only serves the far right in normal circumstances and they'd be absolutely useless against a state army. Guns will protect people against crime? Yet, the US has the highest crime rates in all the industrialized world. Regulations don't work because there are still crimes? WFT!!? even with the military spread thin, with how many citizens are armed here, do you think any country would invade? I guarantee more then your average idiot off the street that forgets that soldiers are citizens also and not drones controlled 100% by the government.
I don't even know why they bother. If they make guns illegal, so that no honest citizen can own a gun, the criminals will still buy them on the black market. Is that really a better situation ? Then the honest man won't be able to protect himself from all the criminals with guns, and have to trust the cops. And I think we all know that in most scenarios the cops are just to slow. A woman can get raped long before the police have time to arrive, even if the woman called 911 before she got raped.
Violence should only be used as a last resort, or in the event of an emergency. When faced with brutality (like in Yemen or Syria), stand by your principles and continue to demonstrate peacefully until your goal is achieved. But when faced with the prospect of war (as in Libya), lock and load.
"...Get rid of the weapon and it wouldn't have happened." More like where the hell are the parents??? I have four children (three sons: 10, 7, and 6; and a daughter: 17 months), and all of them are around guns (LITERALLY) from birth. I have yet to have any of them point a gun in an unsafe direction, or act in an irresponsible manner with the guns in my house (43 guns to be exact). And, Yes we do have all the big ones here guilty of the wast majority of the statisic (like Hells Angels and others killing each other).
We´re talking about 20 gun related murders a year here......
