  • Toyotafranchise. Toronto symphony mediocre at best?! You've NEVER heard it I'll wager! Who fed you that? tso is a great orchestra and I have international reviews to back it up. What a line...

  • I love Perahia's Emperor. It's one of the best Emperors I've heard.

  • They applauded really briskly because they knew they only had 18 seconds left.

  • You know, the orchestra looks a bit tacky without uniforms... but this performance was very nice!

  • Perahia is a masterful pianist, his work with Sir Georg Solti and the London Symphony for the Immortal Beloved soundtrack was fantastic. I am also a big fan of Sir Neville Marriner and the ASMF, but in my opinion, both Wilhelm Kempff and Glenn Gould do a better performance of this piece. Kempff had the great Berliner Philharmoniker, and Gould had the Toronto Symphony (which is mediocre at best), but made a very special rendition of this masterpiece.

  • ..after PERAHIA !..I simply don't watch any other video :-)

of any part of EMPEROR !

    So much POWER..ENERGY..BEAUTY !!!

    Sir Neville Marriner..the orchestra...BRAVOO !

    Thanks fot sharing !

  • Listing the "best" pianists is a fool's game...but as long as Alfred Brendl is still around, he has to be on any top 3 list.

  • "And it just made it inside Youtube's 10-minute limit "

-do you think perhaps Perahia had Youtube in mind?

  • In my view, he is the most gifted pianist of our time....thank for so much for providing me with not just hours, but years of enjoyment!

  • dude is SICK on the piano...however BEETHOVEN is even sicker for writing this!

  • I cant find the 1st part of the first movement =( this interpretation is probably the best!

  • Perahia is one of the best in the 'standard' repertoire, but I feel he's not very adventurous with contemporary music, and he plays virtually no Russian music.

  • so damn good.

  • incredible perfomance... Note that the violinst with a green dress is SMOKIN HOT too :D

  • Now I know who is a woman in the orchestra

  • Ive been looking for this song on youtube 4ever! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!! Bravo! well played.

  • i love perahia's music so much I even enjoy his mistakes

  • Stephen Hough is definitely one of the best 3 living pianists.

  • I hope Rafal Blechacz is also one of the top 3!

  • Sublime.....Beautiful....Passionate....Joining of the composer and the presenter.

BRAVO, and thnk you for posting it.

  • Sublime music - triumphantly played. Thanks for sharing.

  • Superb! Bravo! TY

  • Top shelf! Bravo! TY.

  • Having now heard this, and seen the comments comparing with Rubinstein, I feel I must get the Rubinstein recording. I don't find it on YouTube, so can anyone tell me the year of Rubinstein's best recording of this concerto, and the orchestra/conductor? I apologize for devoting so many words to Rubinstein here - but then a performance of the magnitude of this we see here needs few words - it is up there with the best.

  • ArminRennich-This is one of the best of the living pianists. Only Martha Argerich and Evgeny Kissin may be better. Of those no longer living-the Hofmann,And Kempff versions are superb.

    .

  • Pogorelich? Mitsuko?

  • goroundit-Perahia is ARGUABLY-one of the 3 best living pianists

  • goroundit-Kissin and Argerich are the other two. I'd mention Hamelin n this mix,if I thought tat you had ever even heard of him. Were the above mentioned those who you believed were my choices as the other two finest living pianists. LOL!!!

  • Paul...who can argue with your choices...Perahia and Agerich...I must say, I do not know Kissin well...just wondering...do you not think Mitsuko and Ivo make the top grade?

  • goroundit123-Evgeny Kissin as is the case with Argerich and Perahia -is considered the very best by many authorities.

  • Paul, thank you for your edifying comments...will make sure I catch Kissin

  • goroundit123, I love them both and saw them live many times and wow! They are both superb artists.

  • lucky you...where I live now...we do not get the top names coming...

  • THIS is how the song is supposed to be played, a strong piano with the rest of the Orchestra trying to keep up. This is NOT a soft song.

  • Of course not -- it's not a song.

  • ahahahhah PROPER!

  • las amo

  • your an idiot . Don't post stupid stuff like that.

  • obviously, my moms not an idiot.

  • I looove his behavior!!!

  • This is wonderful. However, as always, I feel the smoothest yet most passionate version is Arthur Rubinstein! the passage beginning here at 8:37, is played to perfection by Rubinstein. Perahia plays this entire concerto so beautifully.

  • Absolutely amazing. Anything else to say?

  • i'm attending his concert on friday n his masterclass on saturday. i'm so excited!

  • How did it go? I hear he's fairly shy and reserved

  • Perahia is for the ages. He's one of the all-time greats.

  • Perahia is the best and smoothest interpreter of the Beethoven five. He is SO CONSISTENT!

  • Agree absolutely

  • He is definitely one of the greatest. I saw him play a recital recently where he OPENED with the Bach Partita No. 4. Totally nailed it technically and musically.

  • one thing must to say..God beethoven!!!!!

  • Perahia is absolutely the greatest!!!!!

  • i have always loved marray perahia and the academy of st martin in the fields and with sir neville marriner, this video is one of my favorites ever

  • almost as good as Pollini and Böhm, but I prefer Pollini

  • My God,what a great playing! perfect. 10 stars. Is the best interpretacion if heard of it.

  • There is always demand =D

  • Perahia is truly the emperor at the piano! A perfect, marvelous performance. I want to see the 1st and 2nd movements, too! Are they available?

  • Yes I taped the whole thing. I can upload them if there is the demand.

  • There is!!!! pls.

  • There is the demand!!! pls

  • I have already uploaded the conclusion of the 1st movement, and also the Adagio 2nd movement. :)
