this game is prity fun. i have all of them including this beta for another one that never got released because i won it. prity cool actually. they tried to do a naval battle game but it never got produced. oh well. anyways, if you have the time look up this game in stories. more tactical than most rts games.

Lol, ive been playin this game a bit as of late and I guess I just suck or sumthin or dont understand this games mechanics cuz I have had Panthers pound T34s in the front for days and not kill it, I even had a Sherman beat my Tiger I from point blank range after my tiger had already hit the Sherman. I guess this game is everything can kill everything? or what lolz....

@CMDRFandragon The thing is, tanks that are just grounded/damaged can still fire if their guns are not destroyed. However, I'm pretty sure there are no shermans in this game. CCIII is an eastern front game, Russia vs Germany.... means no shermans in game. New players will be overwhlemed the first time they play CC. Its just so much different than other RTS games. There is no automatic aiming/hitting in this game like in other RTS games, you must have a direct line of fire to hit the enemy. etc.

I just finished the Russian grand campaign of this game^^ Now I've just started playing the GC as the Germans instead. I've already finished both campaigns at least once though (even if it was a long time ago).

This is definetly my favorite among the Close combat games.

The one thing I didn't like about CC3 is that no matter how well you played during the campaign, you couldn't change the outcome of the war.

At least in the other CCs of the series, you could affect the outcome of the campaigns, especially in CC2.

Well you can affect the outcome of the battle. Such as starlingrad mind my spelling.

But not the War its self. Such as the battle of Berlin being inevitable. But one could make the argument that the battle of berlin WAS INEVITABLE!! CC3 is more bassed on a commandors stand point. (sorry my milatary rank knowledge is not that good.) But yea. I like CC3. You have controll of the whole campaign. I like using the strat map. You can watch the erea and plan wear your battle moves will take place.

I played CC5 before I tried CC3 and CC3 got me hooked more on the game. Its not graphically superior but everything seems pretty well implemented, it had plenty of cut scenes, great music, and very interesting and strategically sensitive maps with really smart AI.

I was about to buy the CC: Iron Cross but accidentally found CC:Russian front.

Installed on XP, works brilliantly, even on my widescreen laptop, absolutly amazing!!!!

The gameplay is addictive and i'm re-living those moments of joy 8 years ago!

Blitzkrieg/codename panzers etc...don't stand anywhere close to it in terms of reality and gameply.

Tried codename and soldiers can run towards the tank!!!!

in CC, man if the tank spots infantry God have mercy on their souls!! Absolutely brilliant game.

you can play CC:Invasion Normandy online if you have the game and gamespy arcade installed on your PC. There are some people that still play CCIII: russian front on gamespy too.

Uhhh, the game is about 10 years old. Were you expecting today's graphics? This is a great game BECAUSE its realistic. I don't even like to call it a "GAME" really, its more like a battlefield simulator. There is a demo out there if you want to try it out sometime. The CC:Invasion Normandy demo is pretty easy to find on the internet.

They released CC: Cross Of Iron about a year ago its basically a remake of CCIII. But no graphics overhaul, it does have a tons of mods and of course online play though.

Blitzkrieg is nothing like CC though. I think BLZG is unrealistic, even the realism mod is not that realistic. The main problem I have with BLZG is the camera view sucks and the fact that LINE OF SIGHT is basically none existent kind of nullifies REALISM in my opinion. BLZ is designed for street to street fighting while CC is geared towards block to block fighting. U don't need to be within 20 yards of the enemy to start shooting in CC. you can actually hit people that are far away in CC.

Well theres plenty of new mods out there that give you that. I personaly dont like the lines of sight to be too realistic on this tipe of games, specially if its a bigger battle where you have to watch over more units and you miss a lot of out of screen action. Yes the view is not the best but I prefer that view over a view that almost has no angle any day.

But realistic line of sight is basically what makes the game.. well.. realistic. It sucks that each individual unit has a set distance for line of sight in games like BLZ and Sudden Strike. The thing is, you SHOULD be able to see targets that are at a distance as long as there is nothing to obstruct your view but with that terrible camera view in BLZ you can't do this. But whatever, CC is more of a simulation of squad based combat while BLZ is more like a videogame. To each his own I guess...

Yea BIA HH is one of the best Fps shooters ever. Its all so very realistic. I hated it in MOH when all you do is stand there shooting hudreds of Germans.

This game is good...but I preferred Close Combat 2; the Russian Front was far too big of a campaign to be encapsulated in the squad-based tactical setting of CC; battles such as Stalingrad and Kursk were fought and won on the operational level, not the tactical...hence Arhnem, although having problems of a similar nature, was more realistic in terms of the scenario.

I agree that CC2 is more realistic for squad level, but I also found it frustratingly difficult, while I found CC3 to be much easier. Just give me a German Ferdinand tank [to deal with the Russian Tanks] and a Flame Throwing Tank [to deal with the infantry] and I am unbeatable, at least against the computer.
