Not hating on Merrill, he is an outstanding defense men & one of the game's all time greats, but a middie with a long-pole isn't a defender. I hate when they give LSM like him & Joel White & Kyle Sweeney these titles. It's really annoying because, as a defense men myself, I feel like they take away the integrity of the real defense men, the close d, almost devaluing our roles. I mean, give the title to Polanco, or Spallina, or Jack Reid of the Boston Cannons....those are REAL defensemen, imo.

I thought that the defencive player of the year was between Brodie and Nicky polanco so I'm not disapointed. And how do you think he got the ball, what makes him so great is not just how he can stop some of the best attackmen and middies but what he makse of his defensive play, that is why he won this title 5 years in a row

not to take anyhting away from how good he is, but this video only showed his offensive skills, lol , not how good he is at defense .

@ttolmie Haha I was just about to say; why is it that a good defender is someone who is good in offense? I would have thought it would be someone who can shut down and dominate an attackman/middy
