Coming from heavens Franco! For the first time he is singing relaxed, happy, not heartbreaking but heartexalting! May be in love?! Viva Corelli, viva Italia, viva Neapol!
As much as I appreciate Madame Mouscouris voice in popular music, she clearly did not have the power required to sing alongside an operatic tenor of that caliber. 'A vuccella' was not a good choice either, since it requires rather a 'soft' voice like Mario Lanza's, not a 'hard' one like Corellis....
La verdad,no es de lo mejor de mi Franco...porque la voz de mouskouri me parece incolora y estereotipada..pero ni esa voz incolora llega a opacar la magnificencia de su belleza...en todos los sentidos!
Tv productions like this was often done live before, but not with close up mics like today. I'm pretty sure its live like most of "The Sullivan Show" is live from the 60s. Anyway Glorious singing!
The o sole mio is bit over the top .Singing a napolitanian song accompanied with bouzouki is kinda ridiculous.Anyway, Corelli is great although it's not a live performance.I don't like Mouskouri's voice although I'm Greek to falsettoish a voice I think.
Are you sure?I don't see microphones anywhere. I don't think Corelli would sing a high C on o sole mio live although he had a great high C and used to sing high C's live for example the end of don Carlo duet with the baritone.
No, I am not sure, but reading the Seghers' biography I understood as though it had been live. BTW Corelli used to sing high C-s much rather in concerts than in opera performances. You can't see any microphones on the other live videos either.
@tehen162 He sings a final B note (and not a C) in O Sole Mio. Moreover, B is not a big thing for professional tenors. Neither is C actually, it is more of a show-off note... It's more important how one sings it musically, rather than that one can hit it. Corelli is one of the all-time great for his tone, his dense velvety timbre, his phrasing... Singing is not about hitting the highest note or higher than you, the listener, cold ever sing!
@sangiorz23 Sorry, I don't think I needed this teaching. Sources said he had sung high C at the end, I did not check it, moreover I don't want to argue about it. I did not say that singing would be about hitting high notes alone. Listeners are different, nobody is in the position to say ex cathedra what is important and what is not.
@tehen162 Mine was an observation not a criticism.I voiced my own frustration to many comments on U-Tube concerned with vocal gymnastics and I did not have 'you' in mind when I speak of those impressed by high notes alone. However, it's a good idea for anybody to check 'sources' and not take for granted what is being said. You are right, listeners are different, however some are more informed :) and some even in the position to be ex cathedra (even if I may not be that one.)Thanks for the video.
It's not a C, it's a B... it doesn't really matter though, it's a wonderful high-note all the same with that gorgeous and thrilling sound only Corelli could produce. Thanks to tehen162!
Maybe it's not live, but i think it's recorded for that special occasion. Because it's not the emi version, and not of other live occasions I've heard. I find it charming and the singing is amazing by Corelli!
WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS HANGING FROM HIS SHIRT THAT LOOK LIKE PLATES OF GLASS OR METAL?

Poor Franco must have had a helluva time holding back and not drowning out Ms Mouscouri who in this rep is way out of her depth.

de kár, hogy a vidi minősége nem túl jó :S
de azért így is hallani milyen szép a hangja :DD
köszi a feltöltést, újabb gyöngyszem :)

Sajnos, csak ilyen minőségben van meg, de ez is jobb a semminél. Van még egy hasonló minőségű élő Don Carlosom, lehet, hogy azt is feltöltöm.
