  • Very well done. In the mid-60s my brothers and I would harmonize this ballad in the back of the Buick riding with my father going from south Atlanta to visit his family in Indiana. I was maybe 12-13; my brothers younger. We had no idea what it was we were singing about but we sure did enjoy singing it over & over. I recalled this memory when I came across book today by Sharyn McCrumb that attempts to recreate the story from the viewpoint of attorney who defended Tom. Great video.

  • i'm watching this and reading trolls comics.

    that is sick

  • Tom killed the woman out of jealousy, she was probably sleeping with the boss's son this video is top notch

  • I remember listening to this song when I was a child. The melody is catchy, but the song doesn't explain why Tom killed the woman. It's short and the lyrics are too simple.

  • I don't understand why there aren't more views - this is awesome!!

  • I just heard this song for the first time today on the radio...It was a small show aimed at these types of songs....I am so happy that I fell upon that show because this song is truely a lost but now found classic.

  • he joined the army. I think he could smash that cop

  • Good job people, I enjoyed that, it was creative and well done. I can imagine the greatness you could achieve if you actually had a budget to work with.

  • @TonyB08 Thanks, and tell me about it!! ANY budget would have been awesome

  • i miss this...I'm still 22 but I usually listen to this when I was a kid...I love this!

  • I woke up this morning with this song running through my head, I havn't heard it since elementary school in the 70's, thanks for having a video to watch or it would have played over and over in my head, and nice job with the video so many people put complete garbage out, but you did a good job

  • Wow!!! You did such an excellent job. I can not tell you how much I appreciate this. I grew up with this song on our jukebox. I use to try to picture this in my minds eye this was perfect I love the fact that you showed he gave a bit of a fight and didn't just give up. You showed the era of time, place, characters. I LOVE IT. To a job well done. ~HUGS~

  • @MomsJukebox Thank you very much, i'm glad you enjoyed it!!

  • HAHAHAHAHHAHAH!! The sheriff and Laura were the same guy!! (or was it the guy behind the camera for the most of the vid??) Either way it was a guy in a wig right?

  • my dad sang this every morning shaving r.i.p dad

  • A classic song by a classic group. Good editing. Thanks for posting.

  • Great Video.

  • Very well done. I remember when the song was number one.

  • Im from Wilkes County, where this actually happened. I am in the outdoor drama call Tom Dooley A Wilkes County Legend. Most people beleive that he was innocent. I think Anne Melton and Pauline Foster were the murderes. you didnt follow the story but besides that it was good

  • @garbar93

They didn't write the song for the video. They just put action to a song already there.

  • @garbar93 from the little i read and the last bit of the song it seemed like he might have been innocent. What reason would he have to murder the girl he's running away with?? But then again how did ann and her sister know where Laura was supposed to meet Tom? or Did they ambush on her way? Did Ann convince Tom to kill Laura? A puzzling story.... I want to know the truth.... shucks.

  • @tobs001 too bad the one who wrote the song got hanged... lol

  • great job guys.

  • 1:40 - 2:11 is the best part, music wise, I think.

  • Haha well made Tom is pretty hot here lol I've always Luved this song my grandpa still play it in his car sometime and I still luv it even though I'm only 13

  • great job....sounds like the Kingston !

  • This was nicely done......and such a colorful song

  • sorry tom we know who did it

  • Not a bad video , however it does not match up with the true story. Yes it is a true story and I was born and raised in the county where it happened. In fact my great great great grandmother's house was searched when she was a little girl because she lived in the area. Ever want the real story just ask.

  • @mysteriousyoungman ok im asking please let me know and thank you

  • @samdunaway0496 The victim was Laura Foster, lover of Tom. Tom lived in Wilkes Co. NC and supposedly killed Laura one night. There was also another lady friend of his, Ann Melton. Ann has been believed to be the actual murderer by many but she got off. Grayson was nothing more than an the man employing Tom in Tenn. He capture Tom with a rock down by the creek after approached by a group of Wilkes men looking for Tom.

  • what is the girl name ann what?

  • @jaystar308 Ann Melton was not the woman killed but the woman some believe to be the killer. The murdered woman was Laura Foster.

  • a very good video to go along with a classic song that I grew up with.

  • dont know if this is a true story but like the hole song:)

  • it is a true story

  • Interesting interpretation of a classic song. Good luck with your cinematography career.

    Francis J. O'Reilly

  • i think you all are greattttttttttttttttttttttt

  • this is a great song. it was the first song i learned to play on the guitar

  • This melody is used for our school song d:

    - made by our inspector d:

  • @MichellleBellle May I ask which school it is that uses Tom Dooley.

  • haha that was one hell of a job i havent heard that song in years thats a classic

  • Pay no attention to the crackpot below, Benjamin. You did an outstanding job putting this together and really brought the old classic tune to life! You definitely have a talent for this!

  • the name of the outro song is HURT bu Jhonny Cash

  • What is the name of the outro song ?

  • Hurt- Johnny Cash

  • I LOVE this!

  • In the 1959 Movie "The Legend of Tom Dooley " Grayson was the bad guy and Tom Dooley killed Laura Foster, his lover by accident. But Tom Dooley got stuck with it anyway. (Based on a true incident from 1866)

  • supposedly, another lover of tom, ann melton, killed foster, out of jealousy and rage

  • @anthonytorelli which they completely messed up most fact on. Including "Tom Dooley" s name. lol Gotta luv old stories.

  • Dula was his real name.

  • @GreyEyesCrying In that area the name is pronounced DOOLEY even though it is spelled DULA. Would you like to show your ignorance on the subject some more?

  • @mysteriousyoungman Um , how about being polite? The fact that I know the story at all, even if my pronunciation of the word may have been off, I do not live in the area, have always loved the song, which many people don't know exist, and actually managed to find an article that was done on the story, which told me they spelled it wrong. Now if you're going to be petty and rude I have nothing further to say to you.

  • @GreyEyesCrying I am sorry your ego is so fragile. So you found an article, its called google, should we hold a celebration that you know how to type and use a search engine?

  • @mysteriousyoungman I'm sorry you feel the need to be so uncouth. Actually the article was in a historical magazine. You called me ignorant because I didn't know a simple fact. I call you ignorant because you choose to speak nastily and ignore basic manners, or maybe you were never taught that you can disagree civilly. Either way I feel sorry for you.

  • Good work Lad! keep at it.

  • Thank you very much!

  • You really are a Movieman! I love they way he walks when he killed her xD

  • Well done movie. I liked it a lot. Hope there will be some more =D

  • great song

  • Now THIS was awesome. One of THE classic folk songs from Kingston Trio.

Editing was really good to match vocals. 5 stars for sure.

  • sköööööööööööön låt ! :)

  • pretty good, nice job. i love this song.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey not a bad bit of editing. I like how you get the slo-mo video to match the normal speed of the vocals. I use the Sony Vegas Studio. What did you use?

  • Good job! The real legend of Tom Dooley states that Tom Dooley was not the perpatratior of the killing. It'sa fuzzy mystery but Dooley was hanged in North Carolina for the murder. Interesting story and perfect for a country song. B-E-A-UTIFUL! :)

  • Very Good job! I love it.

  • is that real i mean was there a tom dooley ?

  • that is really really good. I could totally feel it.

  • pretty good video. great job

  • Maybe but in this song Tom Dooley is a real person from the american civilwar. He has fightet for the CSA and then he has killed his wive in the mountains...

  • Actually he was framed by a Union officer.

  • Nice film you did the song

    Justice

  • i must learn to play this song in my music klass. it's not hard, i i have never played guitar before. but it's hard do change friom A to D :P

  • there really was a man named tom dooley and this song was really for him

they found out years later he was innocent and really did not kill the girl but it too late they had already hionged him thought you guys would like that tid bit of info

  • Not bad, not bad at all.

  • Honestly, good video I'll give you a B+ the goat-tee's have to go. They don't fit the area. That's my opinion and it doesn't count for much

  • Fine job, good work.

  • Good Job Guys...

  • Exellent video!!!

  • 20,000 views..woot woot

  • This is simply the best video I've seen ever on youtube. You should be given an Oscar. 5/5

  • Good one..

  • I remember singing this folk song when I was a child..back in the 50's or early 60's..It was a very popular song and we just loved singing it...Thanks for the memories. p.s. I always wondered why in the world did he 'stab her with his knife'...

  • This is missing a verse. He originally wanted to marry the girl, but she said no. the comes the verse about her death.

  • Not sung by the kingston trio! IF you're right I have have not ever heard that version...link?

  • i haven't been able to find the original on youtube, just a couple different versions. i have the original sheet music though. it's really an awesome song^^

  • nice song, and video.,, except in the song he kills her by accident... the song was written for a movie, he is fighting the that actual villain of the movie, and he accidentally stabs the woman..

  • The song(1958) came first...then the film(1959). There are many various of how the story actually goes.. I followed what I personally thought the song was about.

  • cool... i always thought that the song was written for that movie... thanks.

  • are you sure that the song wasn't written for the movie?

the song would have undoubtedly been released before the movie came out, much like soundtracts are now...

either way it was a good video, it's always ok to have your own take on something, even if it wasn't the original artists intent.

  • Yeah, wikipedia(if you trust it)..shows the song came out before the film...I have never seen the film...was it any good?

  • i liked it, but i like the old westerns... if your into that sort of thing it's a good film.

  • Out of curiousity, which characters did you play?

  • I wasn't in the video, thankfully I had enough "actors"

  • Belle vidéo !

C' est une chanson que j' entendais il y a plus de 40 ans !!!

    merci....

  • Reall great song good job but i didnnt like the lip sync

  • Yeah that was my only complaint...it was a school project so not everyone involved was as dedicated as others(me) ...convincing some to learn the lyrics wasn't an easy task.

  • this song is really great!!

  • I am in love with this song and this visual was fantastic. What else can you do I wonder? :) I think I'd like to see your ideas on American Pie. That'd be an amazing video. Keep up the fantastic work :D

  • Thank you very much.

    Your compliments are much appreciated.

  • Very nice I really enjoyed seeing the visuals to that story.

  • it *

  • thank you so much i love il !
