@ArabicLion I have an Samsung 1,5TB USB HDD attached, so the BIOS have to wait it's spin-up, before it can initialize it, so it takes some time :) If I unplug that external HDD, or if it's already not sleeping, it's faster ;)
On my netbook, to boot to a TTY takes ~20 seconds, however, I've just added drive encrpytion which now takes around ~1minute in total; a worth while trade off I think.
You should try adding VGA=0x315 to the grub (kernel line), it will just make the boot up process a little prettier. =)
I have insatlled grub2 later, so there is no more need for vga=xxx parameter for kernel (it's deprecated now), I just use insmod gfx and set gfxpayload=1680x1050 in /etc/boot/grub.cfg, to make it prettier, as you say ;)
Yes, you're right, I forgot to say the filesystem is ext4. I will now recompile 2.6.32 (waiting for it to be final) with my own "stripped" custom .config, and it shoul be somewhat faster. But yes, 26 sec for 7200rpm HDD is expected, I would say.
the bios take quite long to identify your disk.
also to read lbr.
check your hdds if one of them is slave. i guess.
and the arch is linux.

@ArabicLion - Try different font antialiasing settings, and see which one works best for you,
also try different fonts.

About 26 sec. from GRUB-end to gnome Desktop. (autologin is enabled)
