even with 1cm of snow this country cant cope grinds to a halt, im also a fellow class one and have seen some sights of car drivers just dont now how to drive in bad snow! and cause the hold ups, so for all you car drivers if we get bad snow again stay at home
These are reasons why i want to get out of the business. Get paid by the mile, only have 14 hours in a day, but everywhere, people get in the way, hold you up, waste your time!
@tld5500 In the UK, unless you own you're truck, we normally get paid by the hour, or atleast a day rate so don't have to worry about that as much but you want to see the EU driving rules we have to comply with, beyond a joke and I'm led to beleave that in the US, you don't have taco's in your trucks
@eggfromsywell I do not know whether the driving rules are worse than ours. I assume you do. We are allowed a 14 hour day, with 11 hours of driving. I do not understand what you mean about " tacos ", maybe you mean Mexicans? Drivers have to be able to read and understand basic English here, even speak it, I think?
@tld5500 Tacos, short for tachograph, its a digital card to record your driving hours which inserted inside a machine to record how long you have been driving, other work and breaks, we used to have an analogue disk to do that , we have mostly changed over to Cards, we can drive maximum 9 hours, the most we can work is 12 hours, after 4.5 hours we must take a break of 45 minutes, before resuming work, a daily rest of 11 hours from the end of the duty to the next day, weekend break of 45 hours.
@vespaUK125 Thanks for explaining to me. It will also help other USA drivers. Yes, 10 years ago I drove a scrap truck that had a tachograph. No logs, that was good. Now the company uses electronics, with GPS. I like your working hours, it is possible to have a normal life!! Our weekends are 36 hours. Companies have tricks to make us work even while logged as " off duty ". It would be fine if we got paid, but it seems like slavery to me.
@tld5500 No worries mate happy to help, I have been to USA and Canada spoke to the truckers there, same story, I do feel for the Americans, I found them to be very welcoming, helpful and generous, your Government goes on about how USA being the best country in the world and you guys are getting fucked over by the rich elites and corporations with low pay, long hours, minimal welfare and no healthcare, anti union laws, as much as I like America, I like England better mate, no offence intended.
an amazing time and a nightmare, people really had to pull together and get through this, thank god this is rare it did really grind people down after the first week.

hahaha, I see you haven't been in Sweden in the snow... I was out and trucking with 2 meters of snow and you got like 5 centimeters.
MrCarnosus 4 months ago
@MrCarnosus Hahaha, is 2 meter of snow all you get in Sweden?
Here in Canada we drive 110 km/hr on snow, passing cars. You do that too?
We're also allowed to drive 13 hours a day and we can split our 10 hours sleep any way we want.
The US rules on the other hand are actually quite dangerous and force you to drive even when tired, to stay in a 14 hour window.
Driving in Europe, I was never driving tired except for DHL night runs, the first night.
