This was originally a Gertz, then Sterns and now Sears. The escalators are original to the store (1973). The escalators have a nice retro feel and the blue baulstrides are really neat !!.
I am 100% certain that this store was originally a Gertz. Gertz had locations in:
Jamaica, Queens
Douglaston (now macys)
Flushing
Green Acres Mall (now macys mens store)
Sunrise Mall (now sears)
Gardiner Manor Mall (demolished)
Lake Grove (adjacent to Smith Haven Mall). I think there may have been a few others on Long Island but I cant remember all of them, but Sunrise I know for sure. In fact if you research the Newsday archives you will see that I am not telling you wrong.
What color were the balustrades originally on these escalators?
