  • ive always wanted a bass havent got on yet i got a semester left in school if i keep a gpa of 3.0 i get one but idk if i can do it

  • Cool

  • All the way dog like every 1 else do not know wats up

  • i like this guy cuz he actually knows what the fuck he's talking about, unlike everyone else on expertvillage.

  • Look at my channel for easy ways to play barre chords! Not finger placements on the stings, but how to physically press down all of them!

  • thumbs up if you hate me

  • I AM A PROUD, EXPERIMENTING, INNOVATING, METAL BASS PLAYER.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, THEN KEEP ON LISTENING TO COMMERCIAL POP Ya ZOMBIE!

  • R.I.P Paul Gray the best bassist !!

  • BARRE chord.

  • ExpertVillage is probably the best place to get lessons!!

  • is bass easier than guitar?

  • @chilibro Both require lots of time practice and patience, so no.

  • @chilibro its a great way to get acquainted with the nature of a guitar...but its much harder to master imo (im a bass player)

  • @chilibro Easier to star, harder to master.

  • @chilibro Easier to start, harder to master.

  • Which way is better the two fingers or pick? learning to play bass!

  • @MrLintRoller

Two fingers deffinately. it has a better sound, and you dont have to worry like OMG WHERES MY FUCKING PICK?!?! its way better most of us use two fingers

  • @MrLintRoller depends on what sound you want. more crunch with a pick, but smoother, deeper tones with fingers. eperiment with more than just two fingers as well. some songs require a little improv. now and then

  • @MrLintRoller depends on your style....both have different sounds

  • @MrLintRoller

Personally i think is the Two finger, Because it have more opportunities and you can learn every thing you with you Fingers that you can do with a pick... But the Difference is that the Pick have another sound than your fingers... but there's an substitude for that...

But is up too witch kind of sound and Bass style you want. And good luck with learning it! Is fun Have played myself for 3 years. :)

  • @MrLintRoller Use both, it will give you great advantage. Pick has more powerful sound and it is a little bit faster than fingers, but if you use slapping & popping much, then fingers are better, `cause it would be hard to switch from S & P to picking.

  • fuck bass guitar, im a lead rock guitarist........

  • @eLeCtRoFrEaK0036 good for you. sucker

  • As a lead-guitarist-turned-bassist, I've found it strange how rarely you see a bass being played in chords, in one stroke (unlike arpeggiating them). The difference in mentality though between bassists and guitarists while playing is really interesting, I think.

For one, I've had to restrain myself on several occasions playing with my band, from going into a solo...hard knowing that your role is more rhythm-based... :s

  • @SamWycombe well i wish i knew how to play one stroke bass chords. It looks funner and makes a kick ass sound can you tell me of a place on the internet or a book that teaches that?

  • this bass "teacher" sucks... you make me believe chords are hardly ever used on a bass??? slap bass revolves around chords! look at all the slap bassists out there!!! this guy isn't very intelligent. he's probably a "guitarist" thats being paid to teach an instrument he never played before...

  • nice bass guitar playing..

  • Chords...on a bass? The guitarist is responsible for playing chrords, the bass sets the melodic and harmonic foundation for the song, and is responsible for cementing the guitar and drums together. Most bassists only EVER play two note chords(a root note with a fourth or fifth step up). This guy needs to go back to grade school.

  • @dharmaseed Is that where you learnt manners? No need to be rude...

  • @Arakon1 Okay, my bad.

  • @dharmaseed haha! are you serious??? dude! i call that bass abuse!!! who wants to sit on stage and hit a not or two every few seconds for the rest of their bassist life! DUDE!!! theres a reason God gave us talent you moron! man... how bout you go to music school and see why ppl like flea are so famous today!

  • @xjojox1989 Flea doesn't hit a note every second or two, but he still plays the groove. Bar chords are not playing the groove. I already know why Flea is famous, I've been listening to him for twenty or so years. When Flea plays a solo, he ALWAYS plays with groove. Period. Jaco was the same way. Stu Hamm is the same way.

  • @dharmaseed Not saying this video is great, but puting an instrumentalist into a boxed role is rediculous. I love the bass and play in many capacities with different ensembles. With my music though, the bass is the generator of chord movement and the guitar is the support instrument.

  • @moreyom Well, after checking out some of your videos, you're a feakin' monster! Nice Stu Hamm-like thing going on. :) I notice that most of your chords are arpegggiated though, not actual chords played at the same time. It can be done in certain capacities, and you're still nailing down the groove, so to speak. That's my biggest problem, players who think that bass is a guitar and should be played like one.

  • @dharmaseed Well, Thanks! I do take a similar view. I just that I get a little testy when I hear things like "the bassist should just play root notes", so sorry for my first comment. But I see your point completely. I never had any interest in guitar for myself, and you can tell right away when a guitarist is playing bass, they think different then bassists :)

  • @moreyom No, that was never my point, sorry for the confusion. Root notes are necessary, but a bass player should also concern himself with provoding harmonic accompaniment. I tend to do a lot of major fourths, fifths and walking, so root notes are played, but they're not my only focus. You're right, though. When a guitarist plays a bass, it's different than when a bassist plays bass.

  • screws chords for me, i cant get my head round em seriously. not happening for me.

  • who else nearly punched the screen cause of the motherfucker in the advert

  • @tomhart1000 me

  • Man we rarely play chords on bass guitar!

  • BASS IS FUCKING AWESOME thumbs up if you agree

  • the problem with this video is that the theory isnt really explained

he shud have talked about 3rds, 5ths, octaves,10ths etc because it didnt explain how he formed those chords so if a beginner was watching this he cud only play the chords shown in the clip and not be able to work out others

  • Where is MR.HAT!

  • MR.Garrison!

  • Bass Guitarists dont get the respect they deserve.

  • Because of 'Bass-instructors' like this that say that they can play the bass..

  • @TheRATBOY100 but we get the last laugh coz bassists are hard to find so bands are all over me :D

  • @TheRATBOY100 Yeah. I agree. But tell any guitarist you see to look at the bass line for Divine Heresy-Facebreaker. Then they will understand lol.

  • Comment removed

  • @ryer98 youre retarded bass is not easy infact i would go as far as to say in some situations its way harder than guitar. I can back that up too cause i play both.

  • @TheRATBOY100

Thats because most bass guitarists play easy shit. Listen to Steve Digiorgio or Flea, everyone who listens to their music respect them equally to their bandmembers. OFC the bassist of a band like ACDC doesnt get respect, the fucker plays 5 diffrent notes in a 4 min long song...

  • this guy has AWFUL technique. someone should take this shit DOWN. and btw to all you fucks wondering why play bass: i make my living playing bass and i love it. there's my 2 reasons.

  • I can play lead guitar but I dun know y I like to play bass guitar ^ ^

  • hes a pro? Fuck me. His technique is horrible, he knows his stuff but his left hand technique is really sad.

  • holy shit :p

  • You think chords are not used very often on bass? What are you talking about? What are you listening to? Are you crazy or do you just say crazy things??? "Not really used too often??? You just demonstrated a level of ignorance that is totally amazing. You need some lessons. You need to listen to some music. I the future don't say thing that ARE NOT TRUE.

  • can't see anything through all the text, wazzupp with that?

  • You know if you know the string notes and how to make chord triads, 90% of the work is done. The other 10% comes from A LOT of practice and mastering. The string notes for Mandolin are GDAE, bass EADG and guitar EADGBE, so just take of the last 2 strings for bass then reverse it for mandolin. I'm gonna play all 3 :)

  • I've played bass for a few years now, Honestly Bass can be pretty simple sometimes, but its fun. However, I find guitar to be much easier. Guitar is more of my thing now, but I play bass every now and then since some songs are just more fun to play the bass with.

  • bassmania.webs.com

  • i'm so fuckin tempted to start playing bass!!!!

  • hey guys, do you think you all could watch my bass vids and drop some comments on em? id appreciate hearing your thoughts. ill be posting some more vids, so you can subscribe if you want. ill return the favor. thanks!

  • What is the bar chord ?

  • those who say bass is easy have truly never got good at it. guitar is harder to start with. bass is a lot harder to get really good at

  • @MrWtfjusthappened

True, I love bass, but I suck. Guitar is harder to start with.

  • ur video sucks... you cant even see the bass guitar while ur playing

  • learn how to play chords: lesson 1.

dont play chords play individual notes. cheers expert..

  • the reason many ppl have stereotyped bass with being a crap instrument is cos they only listen to rock and metal where you can hear nothin but guitar and drums... i happen to listen to that, but i like to listen to a nice bit o country and jazz and thats where the bass picks up and makes it o so sweet to listen to ;)

  • @AvatarOfChuckNorris listen to type o negative

Peter steele who is also an amazing singer is metal's best bassist

early and mid 90s rock and metal alternative and grunge stuff frocus alot on good bass lines they usually strum it or pluck with a pick which i think a bass sound amazing strummed like a guitar

  • @AvatarOfChuckNorris

Country bass is usually boring, isn't it? I'm not sure, just a question. In either case earlier metal made the bass a key instrument, however newer metal bands seem to be less and less of making every member do their job.

  • u suck

  • @CpAllCena hell yeah he sucks

  • I think people view bass as easy because of lots of talentless pop & alternative band's bass players completley suck, and because everybody hears the guitar more, I dont think anybody who had just heard My Generation or Thunder (by SMV) would say 'Oh It's just bass, guitar is better' I think its because a bunch of gay pop bands have the worst excuses for bassists on the planet. To anybody who thinks "Its just bass", listen to Burn by Mr. Big

  • @alexlocurto i agree.. most bands just have the worst guitarist on bass and they just play roots bar after bar.. makes me sick to watch.. they dont take the time to understand the instrument or learn to play it to its full potential.. its not easy at all if you take the time to play it properly.. its hard work but the rewards are amazing.. peace

  • i love you carl thank you man if you ever need a blow job you know were to get one

  • i get it now :D !!!

  • that last chord looked like a stretch.

  • ....it says how to play bar chords, but i was exspecting more of how to actually play bar chords like at the end of "the wicker man" the whole last part is bar chords....oh well i still learned something in the end

  • f5 to skip adds

  • UGH I HATE THIS LAYOUT

  • Not a very good bassist here... But its all good as long as you love music.... Power To The Music!

  • Me neither. I'm better at listening than playing. :/ Well. Music <3

  • @Pfreire28 practice makes perfect :D

  • yeah i think that it is a very good bass, mine is broken at the moment but otherwise it's great

  • ok sorry for random questions but i really wanna know, are you bad bassist if you can't slap guitar and play like bass using slaps and pops, can you do slaps and pops???

  • it doesn't mean your bad, but it can be useful to playing different styles, i can play using them but i do it for fun

check out my videos to see

  • i got a fender for xmas and it comes with a amp. i'm trying to learn to play and i'm getting ok at it, any recommended sites???

  • @rockmissmeXD i'm not sure of any sites, but there are tons of instructional DVDs out there. when i got my Fender Squier it came with an instructional DVD and a starter kit.

  • Dmanlamius

  • @rockmissmeXD get lessons from a teacher, yeah it might cost kindof alot but you will get really good, really fast.

  • @rockmissmeXD is it a bass guitar? anyway is ultimateguitar com pretty good :)

  • hell yeah i have one (stage series jazz bass)

  • Suse this sucks

  • Vester was a line of guitars, bass and regular, that came up in the 80s in the midwest. The instruments were really quite good quality -- they outsourced to S Korea -- the ones I've seen fit into the shredder/big hair category. Hot pickups, wide flat skinny necks...

The "Vester" name was charged by Fender as sounding too much like "Fender" (hey, it's 3 out of 6 letters, that's gotta be trademark infringement!). The case never went to trial, settled out of court, and Vester was obliterated.

  • It was almost a decent demo but I watched one by the same guy and both videos, he does this stupid thing with his left hand. He keeps sliding it all the way to the toward the bass body after he plays his notes. It's like he's trying to "erase" what he just played or something. It's annoying as hell and I hope he enjoys those "sideburns." They're almost as cool as the "soul patch" ! And for boris20230--go to Harmony Central and look at the reviews. People seem to like 'em & rate 'em high.

  • i do the same thing when i get into a song

  • He needs to crank up the volume.

  • No thats Fred Durst :)

  • i play guitar and im gonna start bass do you know any good types of starter bass guitars?

  • Comment removed

  • Ibanez are great. they are cheap and have great quality

  • Ibanez guitars are great, yeah

    but it's not cheap actually

  • good ol ibanez bass works great

  • i just started playing too. i bought a ibanez

  • ya dude a ibanez gio sound gear bass is great low price no problems or breaks!!!!!!!

  • Epiphone Embassy Special IV Bass Guitar a good bass for bingers and funky 2

  • Yamaha RBX170/270/374or375 are a good starter bass not too expansive and good quality for the price.

  • its "JUST" a Bass?

    ITS A WAY OF LIFE.

  • And you thumb me down for saying a bass is just a bass. A tool of music... Just like every other instrument. They're just tools. It is up to the MUSICIAN to make music with it, in whatever way he/she wants to.

  • @acidviper13 amen

  • bass is a very expressive instrument.

one must PLAY it. orhewise you'd better not to touch it at all.

  • I love my bass guitar ....im gnna be the biggest shit in the world WOOOOO

  • i thought this was a tutorial on bar chords lol, this is arpeggios. :P

  • Music in general is just a human expression of the various sounds we hear in nature, with frequencies running the gamut of what our ears can pick up.

The Bass guitar represents the very lowest, most powerful frequencies in the spectrum, imitable of the sounds of earthquakes, thunder, and distant ocean tides, etc.

I like to refer to the bass guitar, kick drums, and floor toms as representing these "earth" tones. An explosive fireworks display is nothing without the "booms".

  • hmm, reading some stuff, yes, bass is trully a wonderfull instrument that makes a song sound good, and i personaly belive that a band is nothing without its bass sound, and yet it seem like such an easy intrument to play from the view of the people that mock it, and when they try it the cant event play this....bass can be easy if you like it or yet the most challenging one to master, as most of the people that i find keep them simple

    ^^ please dont hate me...lol!

  • i thinks you're right...most of the people think that bassist are nothing because you usually don't hear it too much . but it's not that easy...there are lots of ways to play bass...by picking, fingerpicking, slapping, tapping...and there are many tipes of basses...4 string,5string,6string, fretless... the bass in my oppinion is the best instrument along with the classical guitar and the piano

  • i just got a 4 string bass and im loving every minute of it i practice almost every other night

  • "bass can be easy if you like it or yet the most challenging one to master"

-Worded very well. Bass is an "easy" instrument to pick up and pluck on, but to become a master will take over a lifetime on the strings. Every time i learn something - I REALLY learn how much more there is TO learn. Bassists forever!

  • @HeirOfIchimaru I really agree with you there!

  • @HeirOfIchimaru Question! The guy said its "not used very often" and it is only 4 strings, plus guitars seems to play the whole entire song/rythmn/notes and bass is just a few notes added onto it to be "whole", idk what I'm saying as I am not a musician or "musical type" but my question is:

If a bass is so important how come we only here the GUITAR than we do a bass? I listen to my favorite band, and my fave member is a bass, but I can barely hear her play, all I hear is guitar.

  • @fmarcum01 if a song is mixed right, youll hear bass, if the player just doubles the guitar, you wont. but in most songs you can hear it anyway, it just takes a while to get used to the frequency if your not a musician listening for bass

  • @sonnybeilbill3 Thanks bro! :) Makes sense.

  • @fmarcum01 Hi! =D

In this case you may not hear it because the bass sound is more of the tremble to it. In a metaphor example, guitar is the scream, while bass is the humming behind it, so, of course you're not gonna be able to hear it immediatelly, it will take some time to get to know it, just listen carefully for a humming noise, and if you really like to see and hear a example of it, look up a bass cover of one of your favorite songs. in what the guy talks, the "technique" is the one not --

  • @HeirOfIchimaru

---being played often, seeing that being able to pull certain techniques take long periods of time and concentrations to get them right. The bass is actually played along the whole song in most rock, blues, jazz various generes of music. Research more thing about the bass guitar so that way you might learn how to recognize it in songs, and you'll have a better experience listening you favorite bassist if you do! ;)

  • @HeirOfIchimaru Thank you! :D Thats a REALLY good way to think about it that way--really good examples! :)

  • @fmarcum01 The reason bass is not heard many times is because it is more "felt" than heard. Many times, the bass tone blends into the guitar tone, and accentuates the guitar's notes, and other times bass can sound like the drummer's bass pedal. If you are having trouble hearing the bass in songs you may also need better headphones, as some crappy ones don't do the low-end justice. Also, bassists use chords constantly, we just arpeggiate (play single-note) them.

  • @DemonShrine Oh, ok that explains it! Yeah, I may need to some better high quality head phones to, mine are not that great. :)

  • @HeirOfIchimaru you cant have a song or band without a bass(guitar) in EVERY song there's bass, its the most needed instrument there is!

  • @HeirOfIchimaru You can't have a proper band without A Bass. I always thought "who was the second guitarrist, I can't hear her/his guitar playing" when I was kid. Of course, that was when I knew nothing about bands and how they play their music and stuff. Until a few weeks ago or so, I realized that I actually paid my attention to the bassist the most when listening to music. I thought, it was more way more amusing listening to them. I am actually thing of getting a Bass. It sounds fun.

  • @SonicWolvelina99 you really don't think you can have a "proper" band without a bassist? jesus christ.

  • @TheDivineAberration Maybe I exaggerated here. I mean, in every song there is a some kind of Bass. Like there is a sound behind the Guitar in that song that makes the Guitar sound "nicer". I don't have a better word but it just sounds better with a bass. Unless, the bass is the leading instrument, it sounds like you can only hear a guitar "screaming". This is my Opinion of course. You are free to disagree but I think there should be a Bass or some kind of background noise.

  • @HeirOfIchimaru i agree.. people think its easy cause they see one finger plucks on E A and then G D C.. but what they dont relize is when u start walking on the bass or playing chords its a tuff instrument

  • I play guitar and I realize how hollow thw band is without a bass..... You need a bass or a godly piano player IMO..... lol =)

  • Chowder heads!....lol

  • a band without a bassist is like a human without muscles

  • Wow, alot of people are fucking morons about the bass here.

Listen to ANY bass oriented band, jackass.

  • Atleast there are some who DO know what does and doesn´t sound good.

  • WHOEVER SAYS THAT BANDS DON'T NEED BASSiSTS ARE R_E_T_A_R_D_S. YOU ARE STUPID FAGGOTS. YOU SUCK.

  • Bass players set the beat like a drummer and the chords for the guitars. Like the guitarist will play a G chord, I'll play the root note of that which is a G. Also there are arpeggios which you play each note of the chord separately like in metal and blues. That's what I tell people when they ask me what I do lol. People always make fun of the bassist but it's equal in difficulty and importance to the guitar.

  • bass is much more important than rhythm guitar tbh.

  • i like to think of it like this: the bass is the foundation and the rhythm guitar is the first floor, lead is the second, singer is the windows and the door and stuff, and the drums are what keep the house working in an orderly fashion without messing up.

  • Think of it this way: writing a song is like building a house. In rock music, the guitar and drums are the bricks. We bassists are the mortar which holds the bricks together.

  • bass players finger better

  • Anyone who says something like "bands don't need bass guitarists" are just retards who learned everything they know about music from guitar hero and are most likely not even in a band.

  • dude i know right people rip on me for playing bass

  • Argh, nobody plays bass though, and they should! There's nothing wrong with the bass guitar...

  • I do play :P I think it is more funny! :D I mean, on normal guitar you just move the pick up and down,or try to play 9999999999 notes in10 seconds. Bass is more comfortable and more fun to play, different techniques with your hand, fingers and pick, and it has a lovvely voice! I love my bass! :P

  • bass is often hard to hear in a song but with out a bass player it is twice as hard for the drumer and guitarist to play the song

  • And people like you should die!!! haha

  • go for the Ibanez Soundgear...Their pretty good and not too expensive

  • i wanna start the bass because i already play guitar and i want 2 try something new. if anyone has a good suggestion for the guitar i sould buy, that would be great! thanks

  • I think You should Get a Gibson..Expensive but probably the best bass arounnd

  • alright thanks

  • if you still havent got a bass yet, check out the ashton range.

they are prob the carrpiest but by far the cheapest.just to still see if you still wanna play bass, and if you dont well then you havent wasted loads of money.ashton are awesome to learn on

  • deans are aight too from the one i got

  • my favourithe bass is Musicma

  • i got a bcrich its good with sound

  • i agree, go with an ibanez. i dont know what your skill level is with guitar but if you knwo what your doing then you should be able to pick up bass pretty easily. if you suck go with a beginners ibanez liek an sr 200or something .. im far from an amazing bassist but i i know how to play so i have an sr400 and its great.... dont get the new sr 400's they are cheap get anythign from a 2003 down.

  • ibanez

  • are you retarded?

  • no...thjere really now...yes a bass is a guitar without the bottom two strings.,....the thbe styles of play are way different...the sounds are much different...there unique in both ways

  • a bass is nothing like a guitar

  • thats what i was saying....why did you reply to me? lol

  • sorry, a misunderstood your first quote lol

  • if your not a bassist you wouldn't understand.

but go see and live performance without some sort of low end whether it be bass or a keyboard or even tuba and compare it to a group with any of those and the answer is pretty simple
