I wonder if he learned to play in New Orleans, like I did. I used to sit on the street outside of Pete Fountain's old club beacuse I was too young to go inside and I played the clarinet on the curb, imitating everything he did.They once let me go in when Al Hirt and Pete Fountain were jamming.I just sat there with my clarinet and listened in awe.I can sure hear that New Orleans influence in this guy's playing. Pete influenced us all.
