i love the sh-sh mute ive been using it for at least a week now (im a highschool student) and i can already feel and hear the difference in my playing, im able to play much more powerfully and without a spread off-balance sound.
yes, easily. You'd need to go from 1/8 inch stereo to 1/4 stereo or RCA jack. The quality probably won't be all that great, but a lo-fi sound might be pretty cool. You're giving me ideas..... Thanks!
@jharnum yeah, pretty cool concept. I guess you could technically somehow hook it up to a computer and record some stuff. How much quieter does this make the trumpet? Hard to tell from a video.
Yeah, in fact, it'd be easier to hook it to a computer since the mic input is also 1/4". The mute is pretty quiet for a practice mute. You still hear it, but if you're behind a closed door it's tough to hear. Good for hotel rooms or practicing late at night.... Kinda messes w/ the airflow tho, so it shouldn't be a permanent thing. You should uncork it and blow through it more than playing w/ the mute if possible.
yeah, the name's slightly misleading. There is no mute anywhere that will stop the trumpet sound completely. If the airflow was completely stoppered (silent) you couldn't move air through the instrument at all. There has to be some air flow. In fact, the airflow on the Silent Brass system is pretty good, better than most. Behind a closed door they're hard to hear. A good mute.
haha! Actually, if they used the practice mute at home (meaning they actually practiced), they wouldn't need to be kept quiet in the rehearsal..... ...
Yikes! Thanks for the heads-up. I'll post it again. The mute is the Silent Brass mute by Yamaha. It's got electronics so you can hear yourself. It's expensive, but the best practice mute out there, in my opinion. Another good one that is simply a mute is the Dennis Wick. You can find 'em at the All About Trumpet site.
I have and love this mute. I've actually used it in hotels and at jam sessions to warm up before my tune was called.
