I believe the new Tool is just outright beautiful now. During their Undertow days, it was ugly (In a good way), yet epic and beautiful. When Maynard used to stand in the front back in the 90s, and didn't give a care in the world, and did crazy movements on stage, it made Sober the song it was. Outright madness. But with the new Tool's visuals, lights, and Maynard in the darkness, it just makes the song less ugly. Which is still a good thing. But I just think the ugly part is missing.
@snaredrum110 You still at it, huh bitch..? Your fucking with W78516 now, huh motherfucker..?. lol Has he heard your HOMO.. Whoopsie, your HERO album yet..? That album is sure to make people have the shits for a week. When will you seek therapy for your fathers death, JEFFIE PUSS..? You can't keep on taking out your anger on innocent people. You killed your dad because he wanted you to stop being a dope addicted hippie.. You killed him, he's dead because of you, WHORE.
You are a jealousy lousy drummer. You sound like a 12 year old retard having a tantum over nothing. The only thing I will tell anyone is what I have just said. :D
@snaredrum110 It seems to me that you are mentioning all bands that have awesome drummers in them. You must be sooooo jealousy of them. Jealousy you know is one of them worst things in life to be.
@snaredrum110 You call yourself a drummer. You should change your passion to be a drummer. Your just jealous because you will never be as good as Danny from Tool. bty he is most likely why you really do like Tool. Your weird man. Or retarded. :)
@snaredrum110 Since you are so into Zep they are no spring chickens at all..So you must think the same about your so called beloved band. Me I like both. Tool like them to that is why the play there songs. You are putting down Zep by saying this. Tool will continue to play whatever they want. You know that.
Wow snare drum guy. You obviously don't know a thing about music. I dare you to say that at a tool concert. You wouldn't make it out alive. Coming from someone that plays every instrument since age 3...you are a fucking retard.
Man, it's like another band is covering. Old Tool and new Tool are different. Evolution I suppose. I have to say, I prefer the harshness of old Tool for this old Tool song.
@dzejms The band really did change over time, I agree. The old Tool was much more metal and a lot less artsy. I love Undertow and I love Lateralus. 10,000 .... well no comment. Anyways, I think they are just improving on what their original idea was. I remember when I first got Undertow and was blown away by how heavy they were compared to their newer stuff which first got my interest in high school. Believe it or not, but I was in the 10th grade when Lateralus came out.
@chrisslipknt444 I agree. Even though Paul wrote the riff he did however know how the bass should have sounded. He had a real dry and dirty tone to his bass and for "Sober" it gave it that extra level of fierceness. Justin plays it wierd.
@nuke97 exactly, its really just the basses they used for the most part, pauls cs rickenbacker had that fierce tone, justins wal has an amazingly heavy sound but for some reason it doesnt work for this song
@chrisslipknt444 It would be cool if Justin switched up his bass guitars during live performances for particular songs that require a specific tone. On a personal note: When I see Tool live I notice that Justins live bass tone is incredibly bright and there dosen't seem to be enough bottom end to his tone.
@alebecks: I believe this was 2006. Looking at the stage setup, it's obviously after 10,000 Days was released. This would have been either the last time they played this song, or at least one of the last. I know they didn't play it on either of the last two tours. Maynard's voice can barely handle it.
@surfrusty12 I think maynard's voice is just fine. Just saw APC in minneapolis and he sang more melodic than i have ever heard. He's like fine wine, just gets better with age!
@Tool19781: I wish that were true, man. It's just not. Actually his voice still sounds good. It's his higher range that has deteriorated.. As long as he stays mostly within his range, he's fine. If you paid attention at that APC concert or any recent Tool concert, you'll notice he changes a lot of the higher notes now because he can't hit them. Even he said it flat out in an interview on Carson Daly. I just hope he accepts it and doesn't put anything on the new Tool album he can't sing live.
@Tool19781 His voice seems less powerful/angry because he's singing the melodies. He used to sing and scream (at the same time; Maynard = God of singing) them back in the day and it was great because it was more intense. I guess Maynard isn't as angry anymore, tis a shame for the ones who love sonic violence.
@snaredrum110 I live in Winnipeg, meet me at Polo Park.
