  • i find it funny that, even though they had all the tools and the gasket with them.. they didnt have a set of jumper cables to jump it. :)

  • so sweet dude...this is what man were made for...exploring and cruising...fixing cars with basic tools available, beer and bbq...and off course punani as well ayeee....

  • lovely job. well done.

  • @99XM I beleive that was my whole point

  • ...why fix it right the first time when you can have twice as much fun fixing it the second time!

  • No need for repair shops. Thats why people like russian cars.

P.S: There is a letter on back window "For Sale" :)

  • eccomi tornata, non ci si può stancare , non si può mollare! Io per SIDI partner di Gasket!

  • groovy vid man

  • @DsveysNavy Thanks, man.

  • When the revolution comes I want these guys on my side

  • They did it out of necessity. Not for shits and giggles.

  • Qaz 300 -That engine had a soft metal head gasket, they didn't need to be ultra meticolous refacing the block or head, the soft metal gasket is designed to conform to the irregularities Terminchiator - you would be referring to a skim and a chim - £80's worth of work at any good local garage in the UK - TheBuffaloeye - they would do just fine based on that video clip

  • @TimClynes CHANGING GASKET DOESNT MEANS refacing the block or head.

  • In US they would charge around 1500 USD for this work.In Mongolia I'm sure they paid 15USD to each.

  • boltoo dutuu changalzih shig bolloo

  • I have a question. who the hell just carries an extra head gasket around in their car?

  • @justinjobrien

they probably already knew it was going out. if the headgasket was split that bad down the middle, the head will most likely need machining however a new headgasket will get them home.

  • @justinjobrien my thoughts exactly.

  • Mongolians....lololol Seriosly..if i went to a place like that, i would take one. And other stuff too.

  • @justinjobrien Packing an extra gasket is a no brainer If you are travlling in a country where the next civilization is 400 miles away and you don't know if you gonna meet any human beings for days. I am from Mongolia also and you would be amazed of what our drivers take with them for the open road. Clutch disks, drive shaft heads, pads , gaskets, 2-3 spare tires etc. You will not survive with a tire change kit and a small tool kit.

  • pretty badass to be honest

  • No DOHC, no timing chain - saves time!

  • im changing the head gasket on my suburban right now. but to do that, even on a straight six, in the middle of no where is super cool. well back to work.

  • Wow amazing lol , better then any mechanics i know .

  • where the hell did you find a head gasket out there?

  • there is mixed oil & water Mongolian all drivers can do it Lol (change casket & fix engine on countryside )

  • cool!

  • if anything, its a good example of how NOT to replace a headgasket. Im guessing by the fact that they just 'happened' to have one handy that it was blowing head gaskets left, right, and center. The head gaskets require a good bit of attention to detail and proper installation and prepwork to function properly and not blow out.

  • @dimented24x7 this ain't no Fbod bro lol TGO rox !

  • thats some serious skillz

  • wow. they seriously put gasket sealer on a head gasket thought i saw it all. probably why it keeps blowing. but still props even with it being a inline motor(way easier).

  • With russian cars ad trucks, every mongolian drivers expected to be good mechanics too. If you couldn't fix the car in the middle of the countryside especially in winter time that was a certain death. I heard a story of a driver who survived 6 days by burning a tire a day not to freeze, and on the last day by pure luck he was saved by a passing truck driver.

  • made in china gaskets are suposed to change every 500miles,hahhahahhaha

    hahahahhahahha

  • What kind of vehicle is that?

  • Russian UAZ.

  • @PumpkinCanada

Interesting... I wonder how it would stack up against a Jeep.

  • @Dustmuffins Fps russias car

  • I guess these blow head gaskets all the time since you were carring a spare with you.

  • interesting

  • uaz hunter the best

  • Wow, these guys are just amazing. Kudos!

  • I'm doing this job on my 2.5 bmw 5 series. I'm half way through stripping the engine down and nearly ready to remove the head.

Ive been doing a bit each day because of the snow we've been having but i am hoping to have it fixed this weekend.

    Great job on yours guys!

  • im tempted to keep a mongolian in the boot of my car lol probly better then the AA or RAC! haha

  • Where did they get the new gasket ?? Autozone?

  • @ding0925 Kragen

  • Assuming that at the beginning when it said 17XX hours, they are on a massive road trip... massive road trips cross many countries = pack TONS of shit, shit as in gaskets, filter, all the lil shit that will fuck you up if you don't have...

  • @ding0925 Have you heard of Pigeon mail same day delivery ? Well they used that but paid extra for the expedited "same hour eagle mail" service.

  • i wish i could do that on my 95 Disco

  • головку двигателя УМЗ надо протягивать моментом 100ньютонов... черножопые долбоебы.

  • what about STEEL SEAL

  • wow! hard core

  • just like watching F1:)

these guys should work in F1 pit stops lol

  • the head gasket only takes few hours if u got the right tools, only u no help, you can fix your car form $20 to $80 for the head gasket if u take it to a shop average $1,200 !!! what I do buying cars with bad head gasket for very cheap then sell them running.

  • @libyaVideos most def i wanna do that im looking at a car now with a blown head

  • @libyaVideos HOURS??

  • @99XM yes few hours we have done it on Grand ams so many times again with the right tools u can do it and get it done in the same day in few HOURS

  • Have u ever seen a couple of American guys try to do this on a Saturday. 1 working, the others nursing their beer.

  • If thats all a head gasket repair takes, a few mongolian men in the mountain, then never let yourself get ripped off at a garage. Either do it yourself, or get a couple of mongolian men from the mountains. lol.

  • gotta do one of these for my mum... might be easyer to drop in a new motor... I will tell her to buy a new motor , that way I'll still give the head gasket a go and if it doesnt work then in goes the new engine..

  • took me 8 day to change gasket in my kv6.

  • grrrrr, I hate it when these go........

  • very very nice, ¿that was all made in the same day?

  • In just a few hours, in fact.

  • UAZ 4EVER!!!!

  • I want to know who carries a head gasket kit in there trunk!

  • I guess off-road travelers!!! LOL

  • with an adhesive and all the tools and everything

  • Blowing a gasket sucks.

  • can anyone explain why they had to tow it to get it going?

  • Not sure. Possibly something to do with compression in the cylinders. Somehow it worked.

  • Not to kill the battery trying to start it. Just like a motor bike, just pop the clutch. All fluids have to be recirculated esp oil to the top of the engine.

I am on day 4, doing my head gasket also.

I wish I had these guys to do it for me!

  • @deedidee more than likely a bad starter, so they're trying to jump start clutch

  • @deedidee

i think its because it was a stick and they probably killed the battery when changing the gasket so they toed it to start the car ....maybe an answer thats plausible i could be totally wrong though

  • Fantastic. Glad to see these blokes having a win in such a remote part of the world.

  • This would work if the engine hasnt overheated. As long as the head isnt warped to out of tolerance its all good. Besides what did they do before torque wrenches? Granted its nice to have one, and I'd carry one if doing overland trips but you just know when a bolt is tight enough if your good which these guys are.

  • where the hell you get a head gasket in the desert?

  • They carry a lot of things like food, water, tents and etc so it makes sense to carry some car spare parts too. Plus, almost all of them are mechanics so they obviously knew the problem(s) of each car they own.

  • dont they have to adjust the timing though?

  • not unless they strip and set the tappets

  • That type of efficiency is amazing, plus AAA is really expensive in Mongolia! Great video very inspiring.

  • well I bet they know at what torque it is by feeling with their hand

  • wow, this is a great video, thanks uploader

i'm just about to undertake the project of head gasket replacement in my backyard.

Should have the results in a week or two.

  • You're welcome.

  • it will last 100 km or so, without skimming and using silicone sealant.....

  • @Terminchiator excuse me im curently changing my head gasket , and i dont know what does skimming mean ( i speak french ) and where do you put the silicone sealant ? thank you very much .

  • @qaz3000 you need basically to detach dirt without scratching metal, sand it evenly with paper going delicate on problem areas (aluminum heads need machining), clean with air the cyliners, clean with pure acetone the surfaces and torque it spirally starting by centre (i think usually spirally)you use before the torque key then turns NO SILICONE SEALANT, NOTHING TO USE i said that because they needed something to glue the dirt temporally, maybe they have the gasket but no products, translate it

  • UAZ the best

  • Very cool-to bad more folks weren't as crafty as these guys, now a days most people shit there pants and need to see a therapist, and still whine for weeks..Another reason why the rest of the world is catching up and I for one am all for it......Great job guys........

  • Where in the world did they get a new gasket from?

  • If you are driving in the sparse plains of Mongolia, it looks like a head gasket is amongst your spares.

    Cool.+

  • wow i must say if you're my hero's lol lol very nice job...lol truthfully i have to give you credit because i had to do something like that but i wasn't in the obbis of nuthing ness lol lol but i am actually glad i clicked on this video becausee i tip my hat to you guys on getting a head changed and running with out shaving the heads...awsome job lol you just got another 1735hr out of the truck lol

  • Why do you even make a comment like this?

  • like what? my comment or the origional one?

  • you'd never get there in a supra

  • nice response :)

  • Thanks haha

  • haha that was damn good. awesome

  • What type of Jeep do you have there? I want to buy one. :)

  • those are russian UAZ 31519's

  • Thanks!

  • You're welcome!

  • I still can't believe how your countrymen (who I now respect beyond words) were able to strip that engine and change the head gasket. I addition to this, on the same trip, they changed a leaf spring on the rear axle. Not only did they change it, but they spent all night hammering a piece of steel into the right size and shape to replace it. Unbelievable! I wish those Russian jeeps were available for sale here in Canada!

  • Thank you very much for the respect! Yeah that kind of repair on the go is not somewthing unusual back home. It is a country with harsh climate and isolete places so you have to know what you are driving, and know how to fix it if something goes wrong. Those drivers know their cars like the back of their hands. Was in the same situation once (150 km's away from Ulgii) and had to disassemble and reassemble a broken carb a good few years before i even got my license.

  • .R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

    ;)

  • i reckon it blew due to detonation.

Did he port and polish the head while he was at it?? ;)

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!! Great field repair!!!!

Unfortunately, without resurfacing or checking head bolts for stretching, there is no way of guaranteeing it will last long. Great job tho.

  • who cares about quarentee when you can do it like that in under 3 hours

  • I know I think at this point they just wanted to get home. :)

  • I love this video. Great stuff. And one of those dudes is wearing a Canada shirt, bonus.

  • got to love those old cast iron engines. my nissan patrol is similar. i wonder what other parts they carry with them.

  • One of the leaf springs broke on the rear axle. They spent half the night hammering a new one from a piece of steel and installing it. Good as new. Of course, the next day the driver was so sleepy we almost went off the road. Good thing the road was just another tire trail in the desert.

  • wow it took me 7 hours just to get my Honda Accord Cylinder head/ intake manifold off...well its my first time.

  • random video!

  • If a tire goes flat they don't even slow down below 45 to repair....

  • what a awesome field repair

  • didn't even have to mill that head mating surface. This beyond "Redneck Rebuild", this is a "Yellow Neck Rebuild"!!

  • XD He can carry the engine!!! THAT THING IS TINY!!!

  • i asume you are some sort of idiot, that was only the top end of the engine, the whole engine would be impossible to lift, and its an average sized engine

  • HEY!!! my other comment didn't show!!! In that one i corrected myself, yes i did realize that that was actually the top end of the engine. However, i am sort of an idiot in that jumped the gun in saying that the engine was tiny.

  • I have to say, I am hughly impressed, disassempling the engine and putting it all together, and finally the sound of life came from that engine, these guys are amazing, thank you very much for sharing this video, now I am off to your channel... maybe I will subscribe but no guerantees..;)

  • 17:35 - 19:50... thats 2hrs and 15mins!!

thats fucking good saying there have to take the cam out aswell and needed to tow it to get turned over!! well done gentlemen!

  • I've never seen anything like it. I had to laugh when I learnt it was the head gasket -- the guide didn't know how to say it in English, so he had us in suspense until he tossed the burnt-out one on the ground.

  • You guys make it look so easy.

  • thats beautiful.

  • thats wat i call a boy scout hahahha

  • these guys are professionals, trust me. If you go out with these guys and cars, you are in good hands, cuz they know their cars more than the factory of the cars.
